Welcome back!!!

Thank you.
Looks like I have missed a number of pages. 🤣 A bit of catching up on things here, so I shall be missing even more. 🤣

River Cruiser 'Amadeus'. I am blown away at the length of these boats these days.

The real question about shoes/no shoes...

Why not allow shoes in the house?

In my case, plantar fasciitis makes it painful for me to walk without arch support.

when I know ahead of time, I'll bring indoor sandals, or Crocs that don't cause me issues.

But, other than "Being a cultural issue" I've never understood why
Troy, how long have you been dealing with the plantar faciitis? I've been going on 2 years now and 2 weeks ago I got a second opinion from a different podiatrist and he thinks its "medial & lateral plantar nerve entrapment". I have several different arch support insoles I use throuout the day but it doesnt seem to help. What has worked for you? I have NOT tried staying off my feet for a week as that aint my style, but I'm giving it some thought now.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those without shoes.

It's "Slippers" Troy again. Took me a while but I found a pair with enough arch support to be usable through the day. They do have a hard plastic sole on them, so I can do some patio sitting with them as well.

Asking again: Why the no-shoes inside rule?

I'm happy to respect it, especially if you give me warning to bring over "inside shoes" like the slippers or a pair of Crocs for the support I need. We recently (November) visited friends of Japanese heritage who had such a rule. That was on our trip to Vegas. Their entire house was hard floor with a throw rug or two, so it wasn't to protect the carpet from wear.

In that case, I suspect it was part of their cultural influence. But, I'm curious as to the why behind the rule?
Troy, you can keep your shoes on in my house. You get a medical exemption.

I can't speak for others, but I take my shoes off because I make enough mess without tracking in more. My wife works hard enough to keep up with me.

You are allowing the dirt of the outside into the house. So cleanliness.

I'm not buying the health thing unless you already have a chronic condition (like Asthma). That which does not kill me makes me stronger. OK, I admit that's not always he case, but I believe if I purposefully avoid allergens, then I am more prone to be affected by them when I am exposed. I mean... one of the oldest known treatments for allergies is to expose yourself to the allergens in a controlled manner so your body can get more used to them.

I'm not saying we should rub dirt on a fresh wound, but I do believe that if we avoid allergens, we are doomed to always be allergic.

You get enough exposure to allergens outside without needing to bring them into your house. Plus it raises dust levels etc in your house.

Jeff, I grew up playing in the swamps of southeastern Baltimore co. I am not allergic to anything.

All my "sheltered" kids are allergic to something!

I believe there is truth in what you say.

This particular episode happened last July. I knew when it happened it was going to take a long time to heal up.

I've had other episodes spanning the last 15 years or so.

For the record: Hoka brand, Bondi model shoes are AWESOME for PF. But they only relieve discomfort when worn. And KT Tape on the foot helps.

I stopped the KT Tape for a few days, and started it back up again due to discomfort returning.

Good afternoon all. Just back after a few days in Amsterdam and Antwerp. Really enjoyable.

I spent 45 minutes near Amsterdam Central Station. A variety of trains to see.

Hihi, after some weeks checking in on the forum and what do I see? Dutch trains in the USA-forum...weird.
The middle one is the international train from Amsterdam to Berlin (Germany), I love that train.
It passes my town every hour. It runs every 2 hours, but the train and returntrip are passing here about the same hour .30 hour

Man, Troy, I feel for you with the PF. It is very painful. I'm happy to have only had it once. It was bad enough that I routinely take time to stretch my calf and Achilles Tendons whenever I think about it... which is mostly when I fill up the car with gasoline... I'll stand there in front on the pump with my toes up on the curb, letting the weight of my body stretch out the Achilles tendons and help relax the calf muscles.

I sometimes will pause while climbing stairs to do more stretches. I do NOT want another bout with PF.

Been to Belgium (Saint Ghislain) recently to visit a model rr show. Bought some second hand cheap cars (Athearn, Red Caboose) and did some nice Railroad walking in search of old RR lines in the coal district close to the french border. (borinage).
Been to the Belgium RR museum as well (trainworld). Short (only 2 nights) but nice trip.
This afternoon I bought a sheet of triplex, in order to try to build a wooden carriage of the belgium railways.
Still struggling with the cad program to design ends, so thats on a halt at the moment.

Sorry for your pain...

The only thing that helped me was stretching teh Achilles tendon. I spent hours, it seemed, standing with my toe on a stair and letting my body weight stretch out the achilles and the calf muscles.

Afternoon All,

Started out around 67F today and currently 79F. Today SIL and eldest grandson came over to help with the screen work. We fixed 3 large panels and called it quits. There is a roof panel with a loose corner, but it will wait until after hurricane season since I will have to pay to get it fixed. It feels like I may have pulled a muscle in my left shoulder. It's great getting older. Tonight I guess we're going to Sonny's BBQ for supper. There's a special and Dad is a BBQ fiend. Tomorrow is chores, a haircut, and a final bid on a tree removal.

Steve- Welcome back. Nice looking design. I have two 2-8-8-2 steamers on my layout. They are labeled for Clinchfield and N&W. I am using them as leased motive power similar to the way the Pennsy used SF's 2-10-4's for the coal drags in and out of Sandusky. It was cheaper to lease them than repair their own.

Joe- Interesting photo. That is a super cool story about "Old Rivets". You are a lucky man.

Louis- Nice photo.

Willie- I really like Cooter's.

Guy- Great 1:1 photos.

David- Interesting photos.

Mara- Welcome back.

I hope everyone has a good night.
