Speaking of Gordon Lightfoot, I was saddened to learn of his passing, this evening.

In other news, it's still cloudy and wet with below normal temperatures at the Jersey Shore. We went shopping this morning in preparation for attending our grandson's First Communion on Sunday. I bought a new pair of dress shoes, and a new belt, reflecting my current size. I also bought a new pair of jeans (for travel) and a pair of workout pants for the rehab. I was fortunate, as the dress pants, and sport coat fit well enough that I didn't need to buy new. I also have a suitable shirt and tie.

Right now, the O's lead KC 10 - 7 in the top of the 8th. Meanwhile in Hockey, the Florida Panthers beat the Maple Leafs 4 - 2 tonight, in Toronto.
Looks like Florida may be for real. Meanwhile, the Jersey Devils fans are celebrating after winning the first round series against the NY Rangers.
The Mets, (Tigers), were rained out again. Second round of the playoffs begin tomorrow night in Raleigh NC, vs the Hurricanes. The Canes are good, So are the Devils. One game separated them in the regular season. Should be a great series.

HO Scale Milw: What are the dimensions of your planned new layout? Will the wye tracks lead to staging or a yard?

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those without shoes.

It's "Slippers" Troy again. Took me a while but I found a pair with enough arch support to be usable through the day. They do have a hard plastic sole on them, so I can do some patio sitting with them as well.

Asking again: Why the no-shoes inside rule?

I'm happy to respect it, especially if you give me warning to bring over "inside shoes" like the slippers or a pair of Crocs for the support I need. We recently (November) visited friends of Japanese heritage who had such a rule. That was on our trip to Vegas. Their entire house was hard floor with a throw rug or two, so it wasn't to protect the carpet from wear.

In that case, I suspect it was part of their cultural influence. But, I'm curious as to the why behind the rule?

10'x6', The wye tracks are an abandoned. I am aware that there is no storage space on the layout, but I enjoy running trains through scenery more than switching. I generally take my shoes off indoors, unless I know I'll be going back out.

If you can maintain it, it is a health and safety benefit
shoes walk outside on soil and bacteria on animal poop etc it dries out in houses become dust and asthma like symptoms etc or moulds can take hold.
shoes out side or in a bott room or in a designated room will give health benefits…
but it takes organisation, and time and effort, and I am not saying this is down to a person personality, this is down to a persons time and often with wives working not being at home, with people working long hours travelling distances to get to and from work they are usually not often usually running from one task to the next, a retired person may be lucky enough to have more time and fit this all in, plus our lifestyles do not have grandparents living with parents and grandchildren and grandparents having a positive influence as busy parents do not have the time. kids then no longer have reinforced habits.
We think our modern world can fix everything until we realise it can’t, elder generations coped with many of the same issues with common sense coping measures.
But governments like taxes and income and have w working parents means more taxes, society though breaks down, these little things are just a dust spot in the overall fall down of society.
I try to takes shoes off especially when wet but once stressed it all goes to hell in a wastebasket…..

Morning all,

38° and clear with a high of 77° later.

Final estimate for repairing the sprinkler system is more that I wanted to pay. It's almost like putting in a new system, all to replace a leaking unnecessary water valve. At least 3 of my zones will get updated control valves, and I'll then have the electric parts to use as spares for the remaining old valves. It does include the annual inspection fee and adjusting the sprinkler heads for better coverage. Not happy about the price, but the biggest part of the system will be new. Better to get it done now than when I'm retired I guess.

Shoes: I personally prefer to take my shoes off and just wear socks, even outside in some instances. I just don't like shoes on my feet. Wife has other issues that make wearing shoes more comfortable for her.

Work beckons...BBL

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 62° out there this morning. Our totally inconsistent weather forecast has now had the rain removed from today's outlook. So I have the sprinkler running in the garden right now. It also didn't get as warm yesterday as predicted, just 79°. They are still predicting 95° for Friday. Yes, 95° for Cinco de Mayo. Today is the first air quality alert for the DFW area, but doesn't extend quite this far north.

A fair amount of outdoor activity yesterday for me. I shredded brush and tree limbs for almost an hour and as a result reclaimed a patch of ground that I hadn't seen in three years. No creatures underneath. Downside is that it has been added to the area to be mowed. I am getting things caught up, this pile was left from just before the Deep Freeze of '21, and my bout with pneumonia for two months in '22.

I was exhilarated yesterday with the thought of not having to go anywhere most of this week, but my wife has other plans. Looks like we're going to look at a new to us used vehicle in Dallas this morning. I absolutely hate purchasing vehicles and having to deal with those salesmen.

I spoke with Chet yesterday, he wanted me to report that he's fine and well, and just returned from an out of state trip to see relatives. He wishes everyone well, and will check in when he gets caught back up.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was back to business as usual. I resumed with my small projects list. This time I selected to attack this area along the front of the upper level.

Cooter's Liquor is a small Downtown Deco Hydrocal structure that I did about a year ago.

I had already planned to put up a billboard that I have had in reserve for this blank spot, as well as a gravel parking area.
Here's the start after the ground foam and downed tree.

Next I will work on the left side of Cooter's

Tom O - Condolences on the loss of your friend.
Shoes off indoors again - My daughter invited us and a group of people to one of those Benihana type restaurants once and I was asked by the greeter to please remove my shoes. I told him that he didn't really want me to remove them, safety shoes that I had on (and had sweated in) for over 14 hours that day. He insisted so I took the first one off. He then asked me to put it back on.

Today would have been James Brown's 90th birthday.
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning!

There are forest and grass fires raging away in Alberta. I can't remember the last time I saw rain (maybe it was snow), so conditions are dry and favourable for fire. I've heard that discarded glass bottles combined with the sun's rays are starting fires.
Here in my town, we seem to be safe so far, other than the air quality. That CN derail fire is under control and the Whitecourt forest is still standing. The weather guru's are suggesting rain showers starting on Sunday.

CN did bring in a train of ballast hoppers. I suspect they will carry ballast for the repairs on the tracks from the derail and fire.

There were a couple of big engines parked downtown yesterday, as well.
I heard them moving overnight, so I don't believe they will still be there this morning.

I'm hoping BC Rail took that pole with them when they departed. That darn pole is always jumping in my way for photos.

I'm going down to the tracks daily over the next while. Hoping they bring the railcars that were damaged in the derail into the local staging area so I can get some photos. I suspect, though, that they will be dragging them off the other way, into Edmonton.
The whole derail thing seems to be 'hush, hush'. Dosen't seem to be a whole lot of news being let out, other than it happened and the fire is being 'held'. I do know, no one was hurt.

Well, that's all I've got for now. Have a great day!

I'm not buying the health thing unless you already have a chronic condition (like Asthma). That which does not kill me makes me stronger. OK, I admit that's not always he case, but I believe if I purposefully avoid allergens, then I am more prone to be affected by them when I am exposed. I mean... one of the oldest known treatments for allergies is to expose yourself to the allergens in a controlled manner so your body can get more used to them.

I'm not saying we should rub dirt on a fresh wound, but I do believe that if we avoid allergens, we are doomed to always be allergic.

Good morning. I put on my strap that tells security I am an approved Walker on the property. I was told to stay within the property until at least sunrise and that was at 5:45. Seems it’s not really safe to be walking the strip before the sun comes up. My golfing partner is a runner ( he is nuts) and is running the paths on the outside of the golf course we played Monday and Tuesday. Today we head to Shadow Creek which everyone tells me is one on the best in the USA.

I ventured into the casino with Terry last night and spent $100. I just can’t see myself playing cards like I used to and the slot machines just held no interest, lost the 100 very quickly. I did watch the Stars/Kraken NHL playoff game in the sport book and got my $100 with lots of interest back. Terry says she is down a little after 3 nights visiting the casino.

Decent day yesterday on the golf course, shot 82 plus my handicap of 8 translates to 74. My partner shot 77 and with his 9 handicap translate to 68. We are in the top 10 after 1 day. My brother who has always been my partner when we play these things shot a 74 and with his 6 handicap leads everyone at 68. His partner though shot a 90 with a 10 and 80 puts them at 18th overall. The little brother wasn’t happy with that but said he cleaned up on all his individual bets. As I thought and wrote yesterday I thought the course would give up some birdies, it did. But only 1 early skin in the groups playing as everyone was cancelling out each other. Today, I am told will be different. Supposedly a birdie today with the handicap added should win some skins, they are carried over from yesterday. win that 1st skin today and that’s some great cash.

Tonight 12 of us plus spouses/partners are heading to Gordon Ramsays Hell’s Kitchen restaurant at Caesar’s. The place we had reservations for closed last week, we were told that on Monday but the staff here at the hotel got us in at Ramsay’s. I’m told we will enjoy it.

Nothing else from here
