Congratulations to them, although it didn't take any skill!;)
Does this mean that you get the complimentary villa next time?
The managers and sales people huddling around them definitely offered to extend their stay a few times. No villa though. Each were given a card of a person to call when they want to come out next time. Skill, absolutely none.

One of the managers did say they could have the casino jet fly them back to WIsconsin on Monday if they wanted to extend. But my sister said thanks but we have our own jet (the son does) with us and 2 of them have to be in Omaha Saturday before going back home to WIsconsin and California on Sunday! I did ask Terry exactly how much were the spending in the casino to get offered the casino jet. She said she will let me know Sunday when she gets back. She did say none of the 4 of them after the first night had to go back into the money they budgeted.

For years on Friday night after work, I would get home by 5 with Terry home on Friday around 4. Quick shower and change and we would head off for “mindless entertainment” is what Terry called it. She wanted a sit down dinner with service at the table. She wanted to sit at her “machine” and just press the buttons and see what happened. It was her way to unwind from the pressures of the week. Even when she retired 6 years before me, we continued the Friday nights, until I retired and 2 weeks later moved to the area we are in now. Since 2014 after my retirement other than the 5 days this week I don’t think we’ve been to any casino 10 times. Heck, we used to do that amount in less then a month. While we have been to Vegas 3 times since my retirement it was mainly for shows, dinners and staying at my brother’s when he had a condo here.

I don’t miss it and neither does Terry. It was funny each of the 4 ladies got the same split from the 106, but the taxes taken out for federal were quite different. They each kept $500 in cash with the balance being in a check. They claim to have really tipped well the drink lady.

I am not tired at all as I took a 20 minute nap before heading to the banquet. We did very well at the golf. 16 skins for me, my partner had another 6 today for 10 total and he finished tied first in scratch and 4th with handicap. I finished 9th in scratch and 6th with handicap. We finished tied for 1st overall as a team with 3 others including my brothers team. We drew straws for the money pay out and finished 3rd and the brother‘s team 4th. Then the 1st place team asked if we couldn’t combine the 1-4 money prizes and hand them out equally and let the straws determined the trophies. I was ok with that as were the others. The organizers hesitated and then said ok.

I will be home by noon Saturday is what the son said before he headed off to bed at 10:30 on a Friday night in Vegas. No drinks for him and the co-pilot at dinner tonight. He said he looked into the card room for a texas hold-em game but he was about 10 on the list for next table opening. Said he placed a bet on the Stars winning the Stanley Cup and went up to his room. I thought the Oilers would win it all and placed my bet on Tuesday, now I am thinking Florida might.

Had to pick three heads of loose leaf lettuce this morning, as this temperature for the next few days will cause it to "bolt", that is send up a seed stalk and turn bitter. I left a fourth one out there, to observe since we will do good to consume the three that are now in the fridge over the next month.
This is why I visit the coffee shop; I learn stuff!
I love all kinds of lettuce.

Good morning, Everybody!

Well, howdy there internet modelers and those not convicted nor indicted of anything yesterday.

It's Troy again...

Had to put my brisket in the freezer. Daughter and (potential) future son-in-law decided she's coming up today. Yes, she can eat the brisket. And I would share.

But her gluten free, dairy free diet due to allergies leaves little we else we can feed her without expensive trips to the specialty foods aisle. Wife said it's less work and about the same $$ to take them out to the pizza place that has gluten-free crust and vegan cheese! We all get pizza that way!

Going to be rainy the next few days up here, so no brisket in the near future. Looks like Tues or Wednesday at the earliest. I better plan three days of thawing on it (full brisket 15 lbs)...

But, with the rain, I might get some layout work in. Right now I need to add the short section between the two large sections. Then I can start working on getting the 2nd level hung. Then cutting the backdrop hardboard down to size and figuring out the curve for the big corner.

That's about it for now. Check back in later.

I love all nuts, cashews, walnuts, peanuts and pecans the most. Unfortunately I am prone to kidney stones from my right kidney and I must avoid eating them, along with spinach and beets, because they are all high in oxalates. Interesting that I "brown-bagged" peanut butter & jelly sandwiches at least twice a week for over 55 years to work and school; without a problem until 63 years of age. The first one was pure hell. It occurred on my way home from work and I stopped at the ER, where after a sonogram they gave me two Advil and told me to take more as shown on the bottle when I got home. It actually wasn't big enough to require further treatment from them. I have had a few more since, although not as severe. Now I avoid those foods and drink a lot of sugar-free lemonade and haven't had one in over 18 months. I miss the nuts though.:( I still eat them in severe moderation.
Apparantly pineapple juice is good for reducing kidney stones, my dad needed stents as his heart was too weak to have the op, and a consultant told him pineapple juice would help…..I was more pina colada lol. But check it out.

Good Morning All. Clear and 68° here on the SFW estate. Another hot humid day here in North Central Texas, clouds roll in later but not before we hit 90°+. The sudden severe thunderstorms yesterday evening maintained their eastward movement and didn't threaten us at all.

Busy day in store. It will start with driving 80 miles to the car dealership to pick up the new to us Lexus. It was ready Thursday, but we were driving in today for other reasons and didn't want to make the extra trip. That will take up all morning and part of the afternoon. I'll stop by Discount Model Trains on the way back out of town, while my wife heads for our daughter's home for their trip tomorrow to Fredericksburg TX for 4 days of winery tours. Depending on when I get home and the weather conditions (heat), I might do some mowing this afternoon.

Despite raining over 3/4" Thursday night, the ground was mostly dry yesterday given the breeze and 95° temperature. I stood under a shade tree and shredded some remaining brush. I still have to get those low hanging branches that swat me in the head when I mow under the 30 or so trees along the road on the east side of the yard. They're bad enough that I have to wear safety goggles instead of the simpler safety glasses.

I did some modeling out in the train shed yesterday. Took a few pictures but when I went to download them I got the "Charge Battery" message this morning. I don't have a spare for that camera.
How about a train running through the upper level from 2020, led by a pair of "snoot-nose" SD40-2's from Scaletrains.

Troy - I have been following Allan and the V&O for more years than I can count. It's the only model RR that has it's own historical society!
Tom O - I had a late buddy who used to send his clothes and baggage home from his vacations in Alaska by UPS. That way, his carry-on was all iced down Salmon and Halibut. There were places up there that specialized in packaging it for airline travel that met carry-on requirements. This was before 9-11, so I don't know if it can still be done.
The managers and sales people huddling around them definitely offered to extend their stay a few times.
They want some of their money back!!!
Karl - I think that many of us can relate to that song. I sure can although my beard isn't quite as long.

Well depending on your tastes, today is Kentucky Derby Day and World Naked Gardening Day. It's also Bob Segar's 78th birthday and Willie Mays' 92nd. Yep! He's still with us.

Everyone have a great day and an awesome weekend.

Cashews are my go-to snack too! Wife buys the big tub of Planters at Sam's Club. I walk by the cabinet several times a day and grab a big handful.
Macadamias yum yum, followed by Brazil and Keto chocolate, cashews, walnuts, pecans all winners, i buy salt roasted pistachios but cook the others myself in butter with salt and pepper yum yum, we eat a lot of nuts on keto

Morning all,

Currently 71° and clear going for a high later of 91°. It's about 15° above normal. Once again we got snubbed by the rain clouds.

Turned on the AC this morning as it was too warm and humid in the house.

Currently at the office running the updates against the servers.

Terry: Loved the video on the highway 95 bridge.

Willie, Funny thing, I didn't realize that today was naked gardening day when I posted that song! LOL

Well - 10 out of control fires here. My lady friend has been out of her home for a wk . My son probably has lost his home & shop (mowing & spraying for oilfield) in Drayton Valley. Another town (Fox Creek) being evaced just now. They are heading to Guys town. (Whitecourt) So many road closures its getting hard to get to where evacuees are sposed to get to. The main culprit has been the wind - 15-20 mph day & night for 5 days
What a week!

Good Morning All!

51F @ 82% and still raining.

Welp, enjoyed one of life's moments. You probably won't believe it but ... Was sitting on the back deck the other day and noticed a Maple seed moving which caught my eye. What the? Come to find out it was your normal variety earth worm breaking the surface. Little guy poked out about an inch standing straight up on his ( pick one ) head or tail. Finally stood up about 3 inches then back to the ground and stretched out about 4 inches. Process was repeated and back into the dirt he went. Thought I was on Dune! In 70 years, I have never seen this. Now I have been watching the ground and have spotted 3 or 4 of the critters doing the same stuff. I have seen the fractured dirt where they surface many times, but not them coming out ... sorta speak.

Finishing the move stuff from the North Bedroom this am, then hopefully I can start the demo: carpet 2B gone, wall plaster and what ever is under it 2B gone, junk framing 2B gone. After that, I can move on to doing the new stuff.

Later

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk at 70F this morning and currently 80F. I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow. Drove down to Orlando to meet up with some of my MRR friends and had lunch with them. I got 6 tree trunks in the mail so I can start on them tomorrow. I have another 10 coming in on Monday.

TomO- It sounds like you and Terry did very well in Vegas.

Louis- Interesting bridge. Are the metal arches for decoration? It looks like a regular vehicle bridge otherwise.

Smudge- Cool video.

Christian- Nice steamer action.

Willie- Nice looking diesels. I like the Blue & Yellow livery best.

I hope everyone has a good night.

As far as I know, the arches are part of the structure.
Results of a Bing search: The Saint Paul Street Bridge is a historic bridge in Baltimore, Maryland that spans the Jones Falls. It was built in 1931 and is a concrete arch bridge with a total length of 1,000 feet (340 m) and a main span of 200 feet (61 m)
