Good Morning All. Happy Memorial Day. Cloudy and 74°, still have those high winds from the south in excess of 20 mph all day, until Wednesday. Rain maybe Thursday.

Well surprise yesterday. The pool temperature rose to 82° and enabled me to get in again after a week, late in the afternoon. We should be good to go for the next 4 months now. It felt good after a session of mowing. Today's mowing target is the SW corner over the septic tank and lateral lines, always a tough area. First I have to pick up some dead tree branches that Mother Nature has given me with the winds. I should be picking some broccoli this morning from the garden, maybe green beans as well. About half of the onions have matured but I'll get them later today or tomorrow.

Thanks to all who commented on or liked my various posts over the last few days. I haven't had the time to thank each of you individually, but you know who you are. It's one of those things that makes this Coffee Shop special.

Yesterday was a bust out in the train shed. Too little time to get involved with anything really. I cleared up the figure painting stuff in preparation for the flatcar load but I was not inspired to start that project yet. Workbench is just a bit too small for multiple projects.

Let's go to the archives for a couple of pictures today. Mick's Food Market is a cardstock structure that I downloaded. I think that it was a free download from Modelbuildings.org.

I enhanced this basic structure with window trim for a more 3D effect, and porch roof supports made from different Evergreen Styrene shapes. I also added a concrete porch and figures to go with it.

It shows what can be done with simple structures.

Dave - I agree with the no streetlights. Of course there are none out here in the boonies except an occasional security light. I have noticed that along the rebuilt Interstates and other newer highways, they install lots of them, but never replace the burned out bulbs! They also seem to be the newfangled kind that don't shine upwards.
Joe - Unusual for me, but I watched some of the Rangers/Hurricanes game Saturday night. Bored at the grandson's birthday party. I thought that it was really a good game that NY certainly had control of, at least the parts that I saw.
Louis - Get well soon.
Guy - Here's how I fix those annoying gaps. I use a piece of square styrene stock to fit into the gap with Super Glue, then file or carve it to look like rail.
IMG_0999.JPG

This one hasn't been painted yet, but once you paint the rail it blends in. That is if you paint your rail which I do. Smaller than this one don't usually get filled. Alternately I have seen where people fill the gap with solder and file it to shape, but that seems harder to control and disguise.
Hughie - Stairs and windows are some of the pitfalls of N scale. Structure is looking good though.

As someone pointed out yesterday, today is to honor the war heroes that didn't come home. Not veterans or first responders
So everyone have a great day, the unofficial start of summer.

Good Morning!
It's gonna be a nice day! So I'm going fencing. I want to get it done.
I've got a couple hours of work to finish the last fence, and I want to buy material for the next fence. That one will be a 3 day project. Hopefully, no one else will call for the rest of the year.

But wait! - The wife is talking about going on a fishing holiday to BC in June. Fishing and foreign rail photography sounds like a good enough reason to delay my layout building.

Here's a rerun photo of my hardware people before they were actually placed inside the hardware. Just for the sake of posting a photo.

The photo is an indication of how long it's taking to get trains running. I believe the pic was taken two winters ago.

Gonna go finish a fence! Have a good one!

The fishing trip sounds good after the winter you have been through!
Enjoy it while you can; three years ago I was helping my carpenter neighbor building and repairing fences!

Just for the sake of posting a photo:
You might throw in a re-run of the lawnmower lady?

Good morning from a warming windy So. Central Wisconsin. The morning planting and watering has been completed by the wife. I did the gardening chores commanded of me. Currently sitting on the south deck as the temperatures are approaching 80f degrees heading to 87-90 per the Weather Channel and TV lady. No mulching today! I have been asked if I want to ride and I said AtV’s and she laughed. Off to the trusty steeds in a bit as her phone has been ringing off the hook the last 1/2 hour. The wind is strong enough to combat the heat and humidity and the flies out on the trails.

No other plans. We are thinking of take out for dinner later. I was looking for places that are open today.

Terry has just told me we have guest riders joining us at noon, about an hour from now. My endocrinologist and her hubby starting riding a few years ago and that is how Terry knew my doctor. When we switched medical systems I needed an Endo and she came highly recommended. So now the afternoon is filled.

Good Afternoon.
I thought that it was really a good game that NY certainly had control of, at least the parts that I saw.
Tonight should even be better as it's winner take all. Gotham owes their success to their goalies, which have been outstanding all season. Carolina has a good well rounded team, but goaltending seems to be their Achilles Heel. Winner advances to play defending Stanley Cup Champion, Tampa. Loser goes to the links, or what ever they do in the summer. No cable, means I don't get the game, but I will have access to the replay tomorrow.

It is no wonder that people are confused about the purpose of Memorial Day, Channel 2, (CBS), focused on female veterans, Channel 7, (ABC), focused on 911 "victims", and Channel 4 (NBC), focused on the "unofficial" start of summer. Channel 13, (PBS), focused on the mistreatment of Native Americans...:rolleyes::confused::rolleyes::confused::rolleyes:. Considering that all of the Network Outlets break in to scheduled programing for every utterance by the President, they all ignored his appearance at Arlington National Cemetery, for the Memorial Ceremony at Noon...
:oops::rolleyes::oops::rolleyes:

85° and sunny. with a little humidity. Overall, a nice late Spring day.

This is Fleet Week in NYC. The Flag Ship this year is LHD-5, the USS Battan. My second son had his first deployment on the Battan, enroute to Iraq.
that would have been in 2003.

Back to the train room, where I'm making some progress.

Joe- my BIL’s sister was laid to rest at Arlington. She was career Navy & then worked at the academy after retirement, as a civilian DOD consultant to the Navy.
My first visit to Arlington, was our high school class trip to DC. Our visit included observing the Changing of the Guard, and a walk through a the cemetery to the JFK gravesight. During our walk, I looked over and saw the gravestone marking the grave of Vice Admiral Marc Mitscher. WW2 was still in many people's mind, and to see the grave of a prominent historical figure from the Pacific War had an impact.

I regret not going to Arlington when I lived out East. I’ve been to a couple smaller National military cemeteries, but not to extent of Arlington. My nephew was originally supposed to be stationed at Arlington after BCT, but his orders ended up getting switched to Drum.

Afternoon All,

I'm doing fine on this day of remembrance. Today I did the water pour under the railroad bridge and a very small area in the miner's village. It's supposed to be murky but as of now it looks clear but at least no bubble issue. Of course, I overflowed the berm I put in under the bridge.😞 I also took apart 3 vehicles for weathering and in the process, I embedded a #11 blade in my finger. I'm ashamed to admit I've never been to Arlington but have been to Punchbowl many times. The actual cost of our freedoms is very sobering.

Thank you for all the photo likes yesterday.

Guy- Everything looks good. The T/O should be OK. Nice lawnmowers! :D

Hughie- You're making good progress.

Joe- Thank you. Cool photos. The Arlington story doesn't fit the current agenda. WOW! that is some realistic modeling.:D Sorry I couldn't help myself.

Willie- Nice looking build.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Well, howdy there internet people, and those who like rebuilding things....

It's Troy again

Today, I decided I'd tackle the project I've been putting off too long. Reconfiguring the right end of my layout's dogbone.
I hoped I could make it work fairly easily, and reuse some of the foam and WS Risers... Maybe I still can, but most of it is going to have to come off.

I got the new "end" put in. It was the bump out in the middle, when this section was the middle. I still need to build the angled transition from the new right end back to the left corner.

Here's a rough sketch of where I think I'm going:

Screenshot 2022-05-30 at 3.08.51 PM.png

So, all of that foam from the gap is going to come out. It's the only way I can get the benchwork aligned and leveled. I fussed with the new section I moved for way too long.

So, take the foam, the riser, and the plywood off. Build the benchwork as close to right as I can, then put down plywood and fresh foam.

Hope ya'll are having a safe and great Memorial day! Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice including their family and friends.

God bless!

Headed for trip number 1 tomorrow. Alabama bound.....Sweet Home Alabama 🎶🎶

Going to hang with my Godson #3 for his high school state competition at Lake Eufaula. He will do well. I get to be marshal for him 👍be back in a few short days. Pops will be minding my place which is good he will tend to my 2 lions at the gate, Wyatt and Doc. 😺

Good afternoon, all! Yes, it's another hot day in H-town, however, there is a strong breeze, so it is tolerable to be outside.

Happy Memorial Day to each and everyone. "All gave some, some gave all".

My Dad is buried in Quantico National Cemetery, has is my Mom. It has been a long time since I was there, a very somber place to be sure.

I made a little progress on the fire house, but I think I will be making some changes once all the glue dries.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Thanks to all those who have and those who still serve.

Picked up the U-Haul yesterday and have it loaded with all the reception decorations so we can take dresses and tuxedos hanging in the back of our van.

12-hour road trip starts at the crack of dawn Wednesday.

All in all not too stressful yet.🤓

WOW! that is some realistic modeling.:D Sorry I couldn't help myself.
Certainly is, thank you. :D
The photo is so good it captures early spring flora perfectly...can even see his tripod on the road in front of his car. We used to run a dedicated "Dump Train", (aka. "Conveyor Train") from Stavola's quarry on the Chimney Rock Branch (Bridgewater, NJ), to this location, where they would unload stone on the Main, then proceed South to the Sand Pits in Jackson, NJ where it would load sand for the return trip to Chimney Rock.
Two man crew, engine on either end, crew ran conveyor to unload. Problem was equipment was not able to withstand running 24 -7, 6 days, mostly on jointed rail.
