Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Morning All. Clear and a rather nice brisk 58° outside on the porch. Got a bit cooler overnight than the forecast, it also didn't get as warm yesterday as forecast; just 88° instead of the predicted 93°. But the NWS is persistent, that's what they are forecasting again for today.
The usual household and outdoor tasks yesterday and again today. Seems that they are taking longer to accomplish. Green Bean planting is planned for today. The Old Farmer's Almanac says go. While I don't strictly follow it, I use their guidelines more often than not.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I did more painting. Touched up the backdrop and ground. Then I painted the street.
Nothing fancy, just simple painting of concrete colored paint on the plywood. On the right, the road leads off the layout to allow more room for structures/scenery over there. Had to do additional touchup painting after that because the masking tape bulged up and allowed some paint to seep under. I think that it was due to the moisture in the latex paint. Still contemplating that RH corner, no hurry.
Troy - Nice power setup you're assembling there. I hope that you never have to use it in an Armageddon event.
On another note; I thought that I read a post of yours about a year ago that you were getting out of the war-gaming and back into model railroading. What happened to that? No problem, I love seeing your paint on the pieces, just wondering.
David (Marlin) - Regarding the cucumber and tomato cage method: I once made the acquaintance of an old-timer gardener over 50 years ago, who planted part of his Corn rows with a Cucumber seed and a couple of Green Bean seeds with every Corn seed. His reasoning was that the Cucumbers could climb up the Corn stalks making use of the unused vertical space. The Green Beans, being a legume, added nitrogen to the soil nourishing both and also made use of the ground space and shaded the surrounding soil. He planted the Green Beans throughout the Corn blocks, but only used Cucumbers on every 4th or 5th plant. Made sense and I saw it work, but it was a bit tedious harvesting the Beans. I never tried it myself since I don't waste space growing corn.
Airbrush - Shipping containers falling off ships happens all of the time. I have read numbers as high as 1600 a year, although that is a really small percentage of the overall number transported.
Everybody have a super-duper Saturday. It will be a sad one for me in a bit when I review the Stock Market results from the week.
