I'm in the process of preparing my trains for short term storage. While going through a box, I found this locomotive, and decided to see if it still worked. Note inside the box indicated Last run 01/27/2015 - No Defects.

BLI Paragon II I2sa, 2-10-0 # 4628, with long distance tender with Train Phone. Test run was successful in both directions. Sound loud but OK.
It's about time that you showed up again. Hope that all has been well.

I told everyone here that I would be going into the hospital soon, but I didn't say why. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 2 months ago. The last 19 weekdays I've been going for radiation treatment. That's every day, no weekends for the last 19 days. I have 9 more days to go for a total of 28 days. The actual treatment only takes about 10 minutes. That's the easy part. Getting ready for it is one big pain. Your colon must be pretty much empty. Your bladder must be full. These are the parameters that have to be met every day at 1:30 pm. If these 2 requirements are not meant you go home and come back another day. This is not easy. It creates a lot of problems. Thank God I only have 9 more days to go. The doctor tells me the success rate of being cured 95%. I don't feel sick at all, I actually feel pretty good but the daily parameters that must be met take their mental toll on you. This is where I lay every day at 1:30 pm for about 10 minutes. Swal

That explains the fasting. Hope that it all ends well for you.

They insert 3 gold seeds in your prostate and put 4 small tattoos on your body to line you up in the same position every day so they can aim the machine. The hardest part of course is the full bladder etc but finding a parking spot every day with a full bladder and holding it until the treatment is over. Thanks for everyone's concerns. Swal

good morning all

- airport is up and running, minimal fog atm
- sun is coming out, the whole week should be around 15 celcius
- for my upcoming H0 project i ordered another building. yes i did it ahahaha. its from bar mills. i think iam starting to get addicted to those wooden buildings that cost a ton :D

P1-1.jpg

but this will fit perfectly in my big diorama with the rest of the buildings.

then yesterday i met a guy in his shop, that he will close down next march and he wanted to talk to me. as you maybe remember i opened a small online shop in november. and it looks like my name is getting around :). so he wanted to talk. because hes selling a product that is worth talking about. so i met him.

he showed me one of hes modules that he has build years ago. Its H0m

IMG_1606.JPG

IMG_1607.JPG

and the product he wanted to show me you can see on the building in the second pictures. the stone walls.
i saw them already on his page and was thinking well, just another styrofoam wall like everyone is doing. but then he showed me those and i have to say, WOW! they are made out of quartzsand? is that the english word. and they are "real" stones. and they are incredible. coming on matts you can cut and bend without a problem.
And hes looking for a new distributor for switzerland. so he was thinking about me. i told him right away, LETS GO! this product looks awesome is not that expensive, and is a standout product. so if everything goes the right way, i will sell them from next year on in switzerland. and maybe i also can implement them into my project.
he also told me, if i have ideas, i can tell them to this person, and maybe he can create stonewalls like i want them. So here is a question for my american friends inhere. do you also have some "comon" stonewalls? Like we have, the red bricks or sandstone walls and stuff? is there a "comon" american stonewall that looks different to "our" european stonewalls?

Well thats for it now.
wish you all a great day!

Cheers
Marco

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with full bladders of one variety or another.

It's Troy again....

A bit of ramble here.

I've decided that the world is unstable enough that I need to do some "prepping".

This is an area that I used to be adequate in. (I listened to a lot of polytics on the radio, and one pod in particular had strong LDS connections, hence the former desire).

I rarely listen to pods now, getting most current events from what's left of real journalism (I have a Bachelors and Masters in that field), and a few non-hype YT channels.

I am in no way an expert. A rank amateur at prepping, actually. What I've decided to do is spend $100/month to get the basics covered: Fire, Food, Water, Shelter.

Shelter: as long as I don't have to relocate, I have the condo. Good enough for now. Fill in the travel side later.
Water: That's this month's purchase.
Fire: Matches and lighters are in stock. Will add more, and more "fire starter" elements via the grill and charcoal. Short term is the immediate goal.
Food: Will start adding more canned good in the immediate future. Then expand to dry, long term storage.

I just purchased:

The idea being getting pool or pond water in the immediate vicinity, those cover the basics of getting us through a few weeks.

I'll link one vid below on the topic. Her two channels are poly-tic/current events - HOWEVER - the link will be to one that ONLY covers the basics of water purification. It's safe to watch (NO political content) and very very basic.

Future purchases, I need to look at some water storage containers to keep on hand, filled, incase of emergency. Then probably some Jackery battery and solar for keeping the fridges powered. The jackery are going to be more than than the monthly budget, so it'll be the major expense when I can afford it better.

Don't forget the solar powered pizza oven.

Morning all,

46° and foggy, a dense fog advisory is on until 11:00a. Off at 12:30 when it will still be foggy, but much less so. Rain and storms predicted for tonight. I had a fraction above an inch in the gauge yesterday. Every little bit helps.

Playing with the retirement money and found I'm on the better side of required minimum withdrawals at 75. I'll still have some money left that will require it as I don't intend to start taking from one account until I have to do so.

BBL

58°F and cloudy this morning. Many overnight thunder showers last night. Between the neighbor and the weather, I didn't sleep too soundly last night. I wish I weren't such a light sleeper.

More storms expected over the next three days, but I'd have to check to see when they are expected. Laundry got done yesterday and a short train operating session was also good. I cut it a little short to watch the weather.

Nothing going on today except the weather. Have a great day folks.

Servus!

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 65°, looking at high-70's today and tomorrow. Cooler Saturday and back into the 70's afterward. Thunderstorm finally hit around 8:30 last night, but it was more bark than bite. Lots of rumbling and lightning for about 45 minutes with some rain thrown in sporadically. My gauge had .25" in it when I went to bed and I don't think that it rained any more after that. That will settle the dust for a day or two. Off and on thunderstorms in the forecast thru Wednesday. No wind, so we were able to leave the windows open overnight.

The rain should help (a little) with the one row that I had planted in the garden with Lettuce, Radishes and Spinach. Not taking any chances here, I had already watered it down with the watering can. Decided that even though it is nice right now, it is still too early to plant frost-sensitive veggies like Green Beans or Squash. WalMart is the only place with Tomato plants so far, for those in-town container gardeners. Yesterday I also brought in a small supply of dry firewood for the upcoming cool Saturday. Temperature range will be 45° to 57° with no solar gain. One day's worth should be all I need based on the forecast.

Today is the weekly grocery trek, a busy one at that. Groceries first, then I have a scheduled visit at Sam's Club to pick up my RH hearing aid; then over to the eye doctor for my wife's laser surgery. Vitamin Shop and pharmacy are also on the itinerary.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I mainly just did miscellaneous stuff. Had an engine derail in an unlikely spot and found that it had run over a part that is now missing from a freight car! It's a truck retaining peg from an older Accurail car from before they switched to screws. I inspected over 60 cars but haven't found the offender yet. Just a few hundred more! I actually mostly know which cars are Accurail ones, just have to find the right one. I'll know when I lift it and the truck remains on the track.

Mike - Just doesn't seem natural that a Canadian railroad has locos painted for USA's 250th birthday. I might actually see the CPKC ones since they interchange with BNSF a few miles from me, on a former KCS interchange track 20 miles north of the former ATSF Alliance Yard.
Karl - Hope that you are feeling better today. My wife occasionally adds cheese to her meatloaf for a change of pace.
Hughie - Interesting to see a brick building from Bar Mills.
Joe -
I'm in the process of preparing my trains for short term storage.
Does this mean that you are finally going to make the move that you have posted about???
Troy - Not to be political here, but I don't share your feelings that "the world is unstable". One area is, but that area has been unstable for thousands of years. However some good might come out of your preparations. I had the same thoughts in the early-70's and I learned organic gardening as a survival skill. Still do it 50 years later!

Everyone have a terrific Thursday.

That was interesting! Good morning from Wisconsin where we got some measurable rain over night but not enough to make up for the lack of snow. 39f degrees now 44 this afternoon.

I started a previous post wishing SWAL well and in was embolden and I touched the icon to change it but it shut down the IPadPro. Now I’m back and all is good.

Troy I’m not a prepper in the true sense but we have a space for the family to hopefully ride out whatever might happen. It’s also why years ago when we got our 1st firearms all the adults in the family got trained and licensed on them. I just figured it would be the Israeli’s and the Mideast blowing each other up with the bomb just not another civil war.

Over 32 hours now without even just walking into the train room. That should end within the next 90 minutes. Yesterday’s work session at the friend’s layout went ok. 5 phones installed and they are working well.

I have 3 separate projects going on the friend’s paper mill build right now. They are different enough to keep me hopping from one to another slowing any down time. I work on the digester and put it aside for glue to dry, then bring out the blow tanks to work on that and then the unloading spot bases. Seems to be moving pretty well. Today I add in inspection, cleaning and fading of 2 diesels. The shop is now relatively clean as Terry just about had a heart attack walking in earlier this week to talk. I guess it was pretty messy which for me when I’m into a project can be pretty bad…

Have a great day

SWAL: I did the same in 2020 ( I think ). 24 days, 95 miles one way. Your machine looks different - maybe bigger. I am still cancer free with my PSA at 0.004 or something like that. 15 minute tops on the slab. I was usually there 5 minutes before blast off and got right in and out. I don't remember the 'bladder full' requirement though, nor did they put tattoo's on me. Got them to crank up the tunes while getting irradiated, they liked it when I came in.

Hang in there!

I hope you have better luck than I have getting your BM order. My order was supposed to ship February 5. They never responded to emails and when I would call they would say it was going out in a day or two. They sent me a tracking number last Friday showing it finally shipped March 2, but it seems to be stuck in a MA ups facility.

Their products are great, but their level of service is a Charlie Foxtrot.
