Good Morning All. Happy St Patrick's Day. Partly cloudy and 32° here, supposed to reach the mid-60's later on. Still forecasting low-90's by Thursday.

Busy morning on tap, We have a doctor's appointment with the primary care guy at 9:45, and have to leave by 9:00. But before then, I have to cut up veggies and get the corned beef in to the crockpot.
Wind finally died down yesterday around dusk, no tree damage is visible because the ice storm back in January took care of most of that. What remained came down about 3 weeks ago during a previous high wind day.

Out in the train shed yesterday, while I mostly ran trains, I did clear out the area that is about to be developed. Took a picture first so I would remember where I situated all of the structures. I installed two ground throws at the entrance to the staging yard on the left, still contemplating the jumble of tracks on the aisle side that jut into the new residential section. That can wait a while longer. Found the cans of blue and brown paint that I use for backdrop and ground cover. Didn't open them up yet, but they sounded good when I vigorously shook them.

David (Marlin) - I didn't think that winter ever really ended in Wisconsin and Minnesota!

Only Troy would have corned beef on Friday the 13th, and ground beef stew on St Patrick's Day!

Gotta go early today and shower before I start cutting veggies and getting the crockpot ready to start before we leave.

Everybody have a terrific Tuesday.

Good morning from Wisconsin. It’s cold, +5f degrees feeling like -8 and heading to 25. Snow is expected but yesterday the app said 3-5” now it says 1”. The cold temperatures move to the 30’s tomorrow, 40’s on Thursday and 60 ‘s after that. Terry’s TV station weather guy says because of the dry powder that we received, officially 13” it should melt quickly. We’ll see about that. The heavy wet snow was the plows tossing the street stuff up onto the powder.

Had some fun in the train room before I became “ snow removal guy”. That was one of the top 3 toughest snow removing I’ve done since we moved from up north in 2014! I didn’t realize how tired I was and while nothing aches now I did last night. I took the garbage and recycling bins out this morning as we received texts from both the City and service provider they backed pick ups 1 day. I thought they might. Waiting until next Monday wouldn’t have been an issue with the garbage. Recycling is every other Monday and this is a strict recycling County but I’d have made it work. But no issue now.

Train stuff, back again today to work till 2pm on the paper mill. See the thread build a paper mill for a friend, I added yesterday pictures of a 46” segment. Right now I am concentrating on the essentials of the mill. The digester building, the bigger tanks, false front facade walls, a pulp prep building. The detailing is where I really enjoy modeling paper mills and I’ve been gathering things. 2 FB “friends” sent me DMs offering parts like conveyors, kit walls and 3 Walthers unbuilt Pulp tanks/chests, FREE. I said yes but told the guys those Pulp tanks are going for like $50 on some EBay auctions each. Both said they’ll send them to me! That saves me from scratch building the pulp chests so I’m thrilled for the offer. The 46” segment I’m working on now will contain many pipes, pipe bridges, smaller vessels and sheds. I’m hoping to have it painted and weathered by 5/1/2026. The friend I am building for found his refinery piping kit (very old Walthers) but also 2 of the generic piping kits Walthers offers. The elbows and valves in those kits will be very helpful. Not sure what the difference is but I will find out when I open them! After my 20 minute nap the idea (not a plan) is to work on some weathering commissions.

Enjoy your day

Nicki and I are going for pedicures today. It's something I do with her every couple of months. I never thought I would enjoy it until she took me in one Valentines Day.

I prepped my beds for seed yesterday and am planning on starting seeds at the end of this month. I picked the first asparagus of the year over the weekend.....about 6 weeks early for that.

This was the warmest Winter we've had in 20+ years. Zero snow, Zero days staying below freezing, NO ICE, and unfortunately very little mountain snow. Snowpack levels across Mt. Hood are currently 70% of normal. Mt. Hood's annual average snowfall total is 246". That's not good for the salmon or farmers.

Morning all from the Northeast. Currently 37° and sunny, headed to low 60s again this afternoon. Found a channel on cable that plays nothing but classic cartoons, Looney Toons, Popeye, Hanna-Barbera, etc. Great background noise while working, METV Toons.

Wife has to work late tonight due to a project completion deadline. She's not picking her new ride up until tomorrow evening now.

Good morning all. Airport is reporting 21°F chilly degrees this morning. Supposed to see 37°F today, 20°F degrees below normal. The warm-up starts tomorrow with the next few days starting at 67°F tomorrow, then in the upper 70°F to around 80°F by Friday.

A LearJet 35 crashed around 0200 at Chesterfield Spirit of St. Louis Airport after a crappy approach. Not sure what this guy was thinking or doing. His vertical speed was over 800FPM just before impact and he killed himself. News reports show the aircraft was engulfed in a fire, but mostly stayed together. It was a total loss though.

I'll get to the train room later today. I have a couple of scenery details to take care of and I need to take some measurements for a possible new structure.

Have a great day! Servus!

Good morning all!

I was on earlier but was running short on time. Had to get the wife off to work and daughter to school early for Spanish Club.

Currently a cold 11F with an expected high of around 22F. Saying an 1-2" of snow later tonight. Hopefully the last winter blast!

Woke up this morning to let the dog out at 5:30. While standing there waiting to let her in I thought it felt a little chilly in the
house. Went to the thermostat and yep, it was 64F in there. Furnace quit at some point during the night. Went down and the
fault code was a 23 code which says pressure switch open. Looked on the diagram and it has a couple different switches so I
recycled power and still no joy. Called an HVAC place around 6:30 left a message and they called promptly back around 7am.
Just received a call a tech should be here around 10a. Guess we will see what is the matter. With a couple small electric space
heaters and the baseboard heaters in the all weather room and with the sun finally up it has managed to raise to 66F. Still chilly
but doable till they get it fixed.

Not much else going on at the moment

Have a safe day everyone!

Mike, hope the repair is simple and cheap!
31 here right now, supposed to get to 50 today, but sunny, so it's pretty to look at. Working on my second cup of coffee and we are waiting for a call from our timeshare folks about a change that occurred. Then will finally do some painting on train stuff and some mechs.
Troy, the resin orcs look great, I have discovered a coup[e of printers that do really sharp Battletech minis that really are first rate. Wish my FDM printer could those so nicely.
And our cold snap killed off all of the Pear blossoms we had too. Supposed to be pushing 90 here by the weekend.

For a smile on St Patrick's Day
THE SICK NOTE

It is generally assumed that I based this song on Gerard Hoffnung's wonderful address to THE OXFORD UNION in 1958. This is not correct. The recitation in a more simple form dates back to the English Music Hall's of the 1920's and was printed in the Readers Digest in 1937 in the form of a story. The fine Scottish singer and songwriter Dick Gaughan details some of the above on his Homepage together with comments by Sam Hinton. The song is unique in as much as it appears under such a galaxy of titles but is always the same song. Its worldwide popularity, with over 100 recordings to date, is indeed a wonder to me when I think back to it's humble beginnings in The Dyer's Arms, in Coventry. I am naturally delighted that so many wonderful artists have recorded and performed my song over the years and I am proud that the song has given so much pleasure to so many people. Long may it continue to do so. Below you will find the original text of THE SICK NOTE.

Dear Sir I write this note to you to tell you of my plight
For at the time of writing I am not a pretty sight
My body is all black and blue, my face a deathly grey
And I write this note to say why Paddy's not at work today.

Whilst working on the fourteenth floor, some bricks I had to clear
To throw them down from such a height was not a good idea
The foreman wasn't very pleased, the bloody awkward sod
He said I had to cart them down the ladders in my hod.

Now clearing all these bricks by hand, it was so very slow
So I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below
But in my haste to do the job, I was too blind to see
That a barrel full of building bricks was heavier than me.

And so when I untied the rope, the barrel fell like lead
And clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead
I shot up like a rocket till to my dismay I found
That half way up I met the bloody barrel coming down.

Well the barrel broke my shoulder, as to the ground it sped
And when I reached the top I banged the pulley with my head
I clung on tightly, numb with shock, from this almighty blow
And the barrel spilled out half the bricks, fourteen floors below.

Now when these bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor
I then outweighed the barrel and so started down once more
Still clinging tightly to the rope, my body racked with pain
When half way down, I met the bloody barrel once again.

The force of this collision, half way up the office block
Caused multiple abrasions and a nasty state of shock
Still clinging tightly to the rope I fell towards the ground
And I landed on the broken bricks the barrel scattered round.

I lay there groaning on the ground I thought I'd passed the worst
But the barrel hit the pulley wheel, and then the bottom burst
A shower of bricks rained down on me, I hadn't got a hope
As I lay there bleeding on the ground, I let go the bloody rope.

The barrel then being heavier then started down once more
And landed right across me as I lay upon the floor
It broke three ribs, and my left arm, and I can only say
That I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today.

The song is sung to the tune of THE GARDEN WHERE THE PRATIES GROW.

House is now back to a comfortable 72F. Repair guy came out and deemed the pressure switch bank was stuck open. He got them to
cycle as they should but unsure for how long. This will probably happen again. Since they are not a Carrier dealer they didn't stock the
switch bank and would have to order. I got the P/N off them after he left and found them online for $177.00 shipped. Its the complete
bank. Looks like it comes with the 2 screw mounting bracket, switches and tubes all assembled with a weather pack plug. Looks I should
be able to do this in about 10 minutes so I ordered it and we shall see. Says it will be here via UPS Friday.

Anyway I have heard it cycle 4-5 times normally so its working as of now which is the main thing.

After examining crash photos, the aircraft was not a LearJet 35, but the puzzling part is why ADS-B reported it as such. The information (except for the make and model) in the photo I posted is correct, as there were no other aircraft in the vicinity of this airport an hour ahead and 30 minutes after the crash.

I do not know why ADS-B reported this as a Lear 35. From what is left of the aircraft, all that can be gathered is that it was not a Lear 35 from the configuration of the empennage. This had two low mounted horizontal stabilizers, and the Lear 35 is a T-tail.

Reports indicate it was a Rockwell Aero Commander 500B.

John,
Don't take this wrong, but it sounds like electricians are willing to hook it up just not at a price you want to pay. I can't find a good electrician for under $150/hr. If you're rural there's probably drive time added into the price and if they have to pull permits....
First, no permits needed in my unincorporated town, just a 24 hour notification to the Co-op power company.
I would be happy to pay an electrician $150.00 an hour. Hook up time for my unit, already set on pad and with gas already hooked up, should not take more than 8 hours. I would be happy to pay $1,200 to $1,800 but I cannot find anyone around to do it. Nearest local guy is a certified Generac service person but he just does not want to fool with it. He promised to hook mine up over 4 years ago but when I finally cornered him to do the job about 9 months ago, he said he wasn't interested anymore and really didn't like hooking up generators.
Other electrician in town is reasonable, but he carries a different brand of generator and if he gets caught hooking up a Generac ( or any other brand other than the one he carries ) the supplier of his units pull their brand and support from him.
Texas has multiple power companies across the state. In my area, I am on a Co-op.......only game in town. So I have to follow their rules.
After watching several YouTube videos of certified electricians install Generac generators and the transfer box, and with the electrical knowledge I have, I could do the work myself but my Co-op won't allow it.
I purchased my unit thinking any electrician could hook it up, not so, as I found out AFTER my purchase.
My point here is if anyone is thinking about buying any outside generator, be sure to check on installation availability and price BEFORE making you purchase.
Generac service out of Abilene wanted $4,800 for hookup. That is $300 per hour for 2 guys at 8 hours of work or $600 per hour for one guy. I'll let my unit rot before I pay those kind of prices and that is sort of what it is doing now. I wish I had never bought the Generac boat anchor now. It seems when you mention Generac generator installation, electricians tend to clear out pretty quick for some reason.
Just my experience with outside generator.

Have your spoken with Generac?

Good day to all.........

And as would be expected, I ordered 4 sets (pairs) of Tahoe Model Works freight trucks and 2 sets were goofed.
All packs I received were marked : TMW-112, USRA 50 Ton Andrews Trucks.
But upon closer inspection, 2 packs had 70 ton, ACF trucks in the package. Now I have to return 2 packs and let the vendor replace them. And I noted in an e-mail to the seller that he needed to physically inspect the 2 new packs to make sure they have the correct trucks in the package. Just more BS to help burn up time because someone did not do their job.
I ordered a pack of Accurail freight car underframes and floors. There is supposed to be 3 sprues ( 3 floors and frames ) in the package.
But no. My package only contained 2 sprues.

"And the hits just keep on coming"

And I'm still plugging along on my stair project that was changed 3 times. Seems the "Professionals" just could not get it right.

I received a bill from my local hospital in Seymour stating I owed $172.00. I had a "wellness check" back in January. Hospital billed my Medicare provider for $200. Insurance on paid $28.00. WHAT THE $HIT !
Every provider I have had in the past 10 years always paid 100% on a wellness check. But not Blue Cross-Blue Shield. I sure hope I can remain healthy for the rest of the year or getting sick may end up costing me a bundle. I have Medicare Advantage with BC-BS. My choice for Medicare coverage where I live is limited to BC-BS, or Humana ( at an additional $48 per month payment ) or United Healthcare ( at an additional $102 per month payment).

On the insurance deal, I have Medicare deducted from my SS check each month. But since I work 3 to 4 months out of the year, I have to file self employment taxes. I get hit again for Medicare on the self employment taxes a second time. In other words, the government is "double dipping" into my income. And the for the extra money I pay, Blue Cross-Blue Shield only pays $28 on a $200 bill.

And my property taxes went up an extra $102 a year. Where I live, we get ZERO services from the county.

While $172 hospital bill and $102 once a year increase in taxes doesn't seem like much, it is NOT the money, but the principle that I receive less in services for what I have to shell out.

"And the hits just keep coming"

Take care....John

Generac recommends a certified Generac dealer for installation and they say they do not set the fees a dealer charges.
Its a good ole boy system.
I wish I had made friends with more licensed electricians when I lived in Dallas. Only one I know is now retired and his wife is in bad health so he can't be away from her for any extended time.

Thanks for your input. Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

I encountered that with my last annual wellness check/physical. When I called customer service, and went up the ladder a bit, I was informed that they paid for the wellness check 100% as required by law. But "only" the exact part of the visit that was the wellness check. I had to pay for the office visit, the act of physically drawing the blood for the blood screening, and any other portion of the visit that was not directly related to the wellness check.

I'd report them to whatever regulator was over them. That's not how that provision is supposed to work. The office visit is part of the wellness check as is the blood work. I'd also tell the doctor that I asked for a "wellness check" and anything they did outside of that was not approved.
