Buying a new phone (Google Pixel 10 Pro) solved all my connection problems with my phone and 2026 Honda CR-V. I visited the Verizon Store near me, and they said I had an old phone Bluetooth and new car Bluetooth connection problem. Buying this new phone corrected that. It all works great now. I wanted to make up some playlists and found Youtube's Music playlist is one of the free ones and has a limit of 15 songs but you can create as my playlists as you want. I created 2 so far one with a softer classic rock feeling to it and one hard rock playlist with many more to create. You can find just about any song ever produced on the YouTube Music site and download to your phone and it's all free. The softer one in pictured below. Swal

Hello again. Needed to get the Corn beef for tomorrow from the garage freezer. So I opened the big door.

The wind is howling but I have a waist a high drift about 20’ from the door with just the glazed ice in between. The NWS offically is reporting 11” in the last 24 hours of snow. I’d say based on my yard maybe. 5-7”. Drifts though are waist high all the way across the yard running southwest to northeast crossing the street through the neighbors side yard. There has been no traffic that I have seen or heard on my street. The dogs are being walked on the north/south running street to our west! I am on a corner lot. Just another day in Wisconsin. Yes, we have the “crazy”. Already used his snowblower on his sidewalks and driveway, he can never wait for the plows to do their job. He’ll have to come back out to clear whatever they put on his driveway apron.

Have a super day

Good list SWAL…

It's also very easy to edit your YouTube Music playlist. I love the Nicolette Larson Lotta Love track but had second thoughts about the 7 minute disco version and removed it from the playlist and replaced it with the 3.20 minute version. Very easy to get done. Swal

Good Morning All. Clear and 31°, might not clear 50° today. Another cold night and 65° tomorrow. Not the severe weather that some of you are experiencing, but the sustained winds are a bitch! No snow here! The forecast still has lower-90's by Friday, no precipitation anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Woke up real late for me at 7:30, as my body is still on standard time. Really late today, as I have been getting up around 6:00 all last week.

We chose to not accompany daughter and family to their winery visit yesterday. They went to the one that my wife's ex-employer (a doctor) owns. Needed reservations at the other nearby ones and none were available. As I posted yesterday, my wife and the owner's wife got sideways with each other when they worked in the same medical office back in the 90's. Instead, I mowed for a bit. Didn't finish what I wanted as the wind was just too much and it's not something that needed to be done immediately. The wind is supposed to be dying back around mid-afternoon, so maybe I'll finish then.
Frozen corned beef is on the countertop for tomorrow. I have three left in the freezer for future use; they only go on sale once a year. Not sure what the rest of today will be like yet, no real plans.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I just ran trains and looked in vain for the car that is missing that part I posted about yesterday. Maybe it isn't a well car after all! Just seems like that's where it came from. At least it's yellow and that should reduce the number of cars to examine. It also didn't come from an Athearn Blue Box car!
I studied that large blank area that I posted about last week and I have pretty much abandoned the plan from years ago. I'm definitely going with continuing the street and homes down the right side, which should give me room for 3 additional structures. I know what I am going to do with the LH corner on the other side of the tracks, but not the RH side yet. That backdrop poster might not last there, might shift it to the right or remove it all together

Michael - Thank you for the "numbers" explanation. Better than having your cell phone blow up in your hands!
John - Train show tickets are quite pricey as you posted, but parking is free like most events around here.
Patrick - Tweaking the hamstring after a certain age, requires a much longer recovery time. There are some things that I don't even attempt to do any more.
Swal - While I like my music a bit heavier than your list, it is still a good one that I could listen to.

Everyone have a magnificent Monday. Stay safe and warm if applicable.

Well I just got back in from cleaning the driveway. Originally I said I didn't know if I was going to anything with it as it will mostly all be gone by Thursday. The plows finally came thru about 8:30am and left about 9" of slush at the end of the driveway and with the temps falling well below freezing tonight I figured it was going to be a frozen mess for the cars to get over. I also figured this is probably the last time the snow blower would be used so I wanted to run as much gas out of before topping it off and adding Stabil and putting it away in the back shed.

Now to figure out what to do with the rest of the day.

Well howdy there internet peeps who are still battening down their hatches for Winter's last gasp of icy fingers gripping us all.

A FB friend or two in the Twin Cities in MinneSNOWta showed they got about a 5 gallon bucket high snowfall yesterday.

Here in NE Indiana, it's mostly WIIIIIIIIIIIND and cold. I went for a walk this morning around the neighborhood. From the wind earlier in the weekend, we had a Privacy fence panel along East edge of the complex get blown over. It's leaning precariously. One 8ft piece of the new faux cedar siding come loose on a building in a different area, and some flashing along one of the flat roofs come loose.

Well, today it seems like a pine tree had decided to go on walkabout, and one of his buddies lassoed him to keep him stable. Maintenance put up caution tape to keep folks from the walk-path until our tree guys get out to remove the tree.

In other news, I had to take the old man cat out to get his arthritis shot. That's a five minute visit. Takes longer to drive and park than the visit takes, and the vet is less than a mile away.

Also, I've been looking at Solar Generators for backup power. City Prepping (dude named Kris) on Youtube does a good job of covering the major off-grid or Grid-down needs. His channel helped me get a long range plan on what we need to survive a tornado or straight line wind event like we had a couple of years ago, when the grid is down for multiple days.

But, baby steps. We have the budget to get some solar generators, aka, battery packs that can run fridges and a solar panel or two for recharging them.

The initial step was to purchase enough to run our smaller fridge, and some home essentials like a fan, and coffee maker as well as keeping the internet/wifi running. I spent some time looking at Anker, Jackery, Bluetti and a few others. Part of the decision was which one did I eventually want to add if we decide to add a smart panel and in-home batteries? I kept coming back to Anker and Jackery.

So looking at what was best bang for the buck NOW on getting batteries in hand to handle a day or longer outage, I purchased this:
Screenshot 2026-03-16 at 10.40.12 AM.png

And another of the same C1000 Gen 2. We can keep one on the fridge in grid down, and the other for the incidentals. Then charge either with our dual fuel generator, or solar.

Since I can't have fixed Solar installed (condos and HOA), I have to have portable solar. I'll probably pick up some of the cheaper panels off amazon and have a bigger array of them ready to deploy as needed. And Add a larger battery or two down the road when we get the budget for the next investment.

Now, the question becomes: Will the HOA let us put in a Generac Nat Gas Backup generator. That's going to be pricy. Utilities come in on the "front" of the condo...and IF the HOA allows it, the generator will have to be at the back of the condo. That'll be a run of about 40 feet of romex to get from the generator to the breaker box zone.

So, I'm considering some of the still portable, but larger "Solar Generators". I need to get an electrician out and see if our breaker panel installed in 1974 is going to have to be upgraded, and what's allowable by code and budget.

Fortunately, we get a nice check from my wife's mother every year. She's trying to gift to her kids before the inheritance taxes become real. That check will pay for a large part of whatever we decide to do.

OK, back to laundry. Everybody hang on until Heatmiser kicks his brother outta here.

It was wonderful visiting extended family. Much nicer than on a telephone; a model railroad show an added bonus.
My good Lady wants to visit Boston. It is on her 'bucket list'.
Then we will tour the area and travel to Toronto, Canada. Our daughter and family are there.
Boston is fun. Faneuil Hall, Freedom Trail, etc.

Our local New Englanders can comment on how the weather is.

Around 9am it was 41F and overcast. Yesterday got to around 43-45F. It vacillated between overcast and just partial with high hazy clouds. Today looks a lot more like it may rain. But the forecast doesn’t show rain until next weekend. Claims it will clear up some this afternoon and get into the 50s. Test of the week progressively higher 70s until it hits 80 on Saturday. Then cooling off and rain. We’ll see.

My brother had his home wired for generator several years ago after a week without power. He purchased a portable Generac that's large enough to run the refrigerator, furnace, and a couple of lights at the same time. I think it's 10,000w and cost about $1000.

Good afternoon gents! 80's yesterday, 50's today, light freeze tonight. Oh and 90 on Thursday. Try climatizing your body here. Not much to post. Ran a few trains, looking to see what might be my next railroad project. Unlike Willie, I have no vacant real estate, so at this point it's looking at what might be done to improve scenes.

Swal - not a bad playlist.

I haven't seen much from Louis.

DKW (Duck boat) tours are fun, but I don't think they're running yet for the season. The old New England saying comes to mind, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it'll change.

On April 20th is the Boston Marathon. 30 thousand runners. I worked at my first one last year as a ham radio volunteer, it was absolutely staggering to watch the waves of runners go by.

Be on alert !
If you purchase a Generac or other generator, Be sure to check on registered electricians that will install the generator. Installation price can exceed the generator price in some cases. Before your purchase, have an electrician come out and look at where your meter is located along with a place to locate the transfer box.
I bought a Generac, natural gas generator about 5 years ago. Price for Generac authorized installer to do the job was around $4,800.00. The unit itself cost around $5,000.00 at the time. One price quote I got (over the phone) without the guy even coming out was $2,800.00. I figured he would show up then say that the price would be higher because of this or that.
If you watch YouTube videos of electricians installing these things, it only take about 8 hours and one person can do the job if the unit is near the home.
Mine is still sitting on a concrete pad (pad sold by Generac is $600.00) and only has gas connected. I have never been able to get someone out to hook it up for a reasonable price. And some electricians just refuse to work on generator hook ups at all. My electrical provider required me to register my unit with them before they would OK a hook up. And my electrical provider requires a 24 hour notice before any hook up service starts or they impose a $2,700.00 fine. They need to send someone out to remove the meter during the hook up process.
So be forewarned.
I believe the portable generator is the best deal. Maybe find one that runs on natural gas so you don't have to keep gas on hand to run the thing.
Remember, if the electricity is out, it is usually because of bad weather and that bad weather will also keep you from getting more gasoline for the generator.

Fortunately in Indiana, Electricians can be licensed to pull and replace the meter. Discovered that when I had to have the box at one of my old houses replaced and upgraded to sell it.

Good afternoon gang!

66° here is the mid-Atlantic. Cloudy with occasional bursts of monsoon rain, mostly going sideways. there was a report of a funnel cloud 2 miles from here about 2 hours ago. We right now are in a calm stretch , but all heck is supposed to start around 4:30 or so til 10 tonight. Oh joy!

Yesterday I did put my latest brass engine under the knife. 1st the connector between the engine and gearbox was melted, a gooey pile of stuff that sticks to everything , mostly on the motor mount. After fashioning a new driveshaft out of silicone fuel line it ran, but slowly and jerky. Also the motor was hot to the touch. I pulled the motor and gearbox , lubed the chassis and pushed it on a glass plate. The chassis rolled freely. The motor spun freely, and with voltage applied ran great. I took the gearbox completely apart , stripped all the old grease out of the gearbox, and reinstalled everything. Still wont move easily. Took the gearbox out again and backed off all 4 screws that hold the box together about 1/2 turn. Reinstalled the box and tested the chassis again. Ran like a charm! Evidently the box was binding ! Now that it runs great, it will soon be time to break it all down again for paint and decals.

John,
Don't take this wrong, but it sounds like electricians are willing to hook it up just not at a price you want to pay. I can't find a good electrician for under $150/hr. If you're rural there's probably drive time added into the price and if they have to pull permits....
