I went through driver issues many moons ago. Having a printer connected to some remote computer is nothing but a PITA. So we went for a WinTerm (XP) used as a print server. Had 3 connected to it; BW and Color laser with an old pen plotter. The thing would go to sleep until 'wake on lan' and stuff got printed. Anyway, because of the WinTerm, our desktops got away with generic print drivers - IPP, or Postscript and the WinTerm handled that actual driver; CUPS for a newer printer. The WinTerm was connected via WiFi so no cables to trip over and you can remote desktop in to make changes if needed. Now days, all of our's are network printers, CAT5, WiFi or both - easy-peasy. Although in your smaller place a WinTerm might not make to much sense but is a good way to share one or two printer(s) for multiple PC's. Oh, and believer or not, I can/could get new pens for that old plotter, execpt that it got changed out with a large format CAT5 HP plotter.

I could have bought a very good used car for what I paid for that Mac, and to think now all it will be good for is running a $50 printer... The Macbook Pro will be next. It was fully loaded when I got it, but now that Apple has dumped Intel, it will probably be dropped from the official OS update list this year, and the clock will be ticking on it...

I know this was replied to already but to flesh it out, Apple went with what they call Apple Silicon. The M1 was the first. M4 is the current. They have different versions like M4, M4 Pro, etc. They will have an M4 Max and M4 Ultra at some point if they don't already, though some of the higher end ones are skipped in some generations. They put those higher ones in higher end desktops and for the Max, laptops.
I have a Mac mini I got a few weeks ago with the M4 Pro chip in it. It's wicked fast. The chips are computer versions (optimized for computers) of the chips in the iPhone. Depending on the iPad they use either man iPad optimized iPhone processor or an M processor.
Then again, I can remember not being able to envision filling the 500MB hard drive in my desktop computer, either.

Morning all,
40° and mostly cloudy, high later of 59°.
For the past year or so, I've been noticing red lights on the horizon to the south west on my trip into the office. They all blink on and off at the same time. Some days they are completely off. So Friday morning (my day off), the wife and I went on an early morning excursion. Tracked it to being a wind farm I didn't know was there (not on a usual route) over 35 miles from where I first see the lights at the horizon. South of a small town I hadn't be to or through in over 43 years. Nice little trip, although a bit early. Lights off would be due to the wind direction. When the wind is out of the north, the red blinking lights are behind the turbine box and hidden from view. In the normally south or westerly directions, I would see the lights from back of the turbine box.
There I was minding my own business then all of a sudden 1975 was 50 years ago.

Terry: I feel your pain! I don't use any of my printers for weeks - even months; then there is a flurry of action. I don't even remember the last time I changed a cartridge. Sometimes I have to remove cartridge and give it a shake though. Maria on the other hand is on her third set of color cartridges for her HP. It is only two years old. She finally did listen to me and print black first to make sure your print is what you want, then color. We have banned bubble/inkjets altogether and are strictly laser users. Much easier on the pocket book in terms of ink longevity and price along with better print that will not run. Sure, few more $$$ initially but I don't know of anybody that has a 15YO jet that still works and can get ink for it. Brother Color is almost 12 years old, the HP 2430 is .. is ... hmmm no clue on how old it is. Think that I got it used in the middle 90's.

Geesh, went all last week thinking today is the 1st of April. My bad. We can not start burning until the 1st.
Quick today - animal fun
He was stuck. The plastic was cut out from one of those DEF crates - 350 gallon heavy wire surrounded plastic bin. Didn't take too long to get it off of him, did whine a tad. Threw it into the trash bin ... 10 minutes later .. guess what? So trashed it in a taller bin.

That's an idea. I have an older Mac Pro that I have a Windoze partition on. It has Windows 10 on it, but if all it's going to do is operate a printer, it should be good until there's a compatibility issue with W10.

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin where there is snow on the roofs and some grassy areas. It looks like just a dusting (Under 1/4”) to me, very insignificant. I took the garbage and recycling bins to the curb this morning and the driveway and sidewalks are completely clear. It is 31f degrees heading into the high 40’s.
The blood pressure meds I am now on have been making the world spin at unexpected times, not a good thing. It’s just 1/2 a tab for the 1st week every day. Then a full tab but I have a feeling that I don’t finish the day on this tab!
1st weekend in a long time we did not got to a hockey game in person. I tried to watch NHL hockey both Saturday and Sunday nights but didn’t even finish a period of any of the games I tried to watch.
2 of my friends for the second weekend in a row had selling tables at train shows, these were somewhere in Minnesota and Iowa. A total of 11 weathered cars sold of mine between the 2 days. So a total of 33 for 2 weekends is not a bad deal. Next train show for selling is in September. They texted last night telling me they did very well selling track, dioramas, structures both kits and built ups. Both have moved into retirement villages and are selling equipment from those layouts. Both will be bringing over cars to weather lightly as their unweathered and heavily weathered stuff did not sell. Their lightly weathered did. They did talk about doing the monthly year round shows in Wheaton, Il. But I didn’t think they were every month so they were going to check. They want to try at least 1 show this Summer.
Heading out at 9 to the daughter and hubby’s house site. All lumber is on-site as of Thursday last week. Most of the remaining materials for the house minus appliances and plumbing are USA made so there will be no tariff increases. I was surprised though about the plumbing fixtures. So many of the American name brand stuff is actually made in Mexico. I have 2 days before tariffs to find a few things but many of the local plumbing suppliers tell me they had to dig to find out where the materials were produced. The plumber who will be doing the installs basically had to tell his suppliers to work with me like I was his employee. It’s been interesting. The SIL storage shed on the vineyard is basically stuffed with house materials.

And I forgot. Have a couple of WinTerm's I don't use anymore. Want one? Pay shipping only. Has Power Supply. I don't remember the hoop jump with them - have to log in as Administrator to make any changes permanent, runs as a normal user any other time ( auto login on power change ). There is *lots* of info out there for them.

They dumped Intel in 2020, and went with their own version of ARM processors. I have an iPad with one of their processors, and it is very capable--more capable than I would ever need in a tablet. They now use the same processors for nearly all their stuff, just some have more or less capabilities depending on what they're expected to do.

The only game I watched was Buffalo and Washington Sunday afternoon, and I missed the third period for dinner. Considering how badly the Caps lost, the only thing I missed was Ovie's goal. Watching sports is not what it used to be. Sports betting commercials and other things take away from the game itself. Same with Baseball, and the season just started. Don't know what it is but .

in switzerland there are also Playoffs in hockey running. Semi Finals. So my Team ZSC Lions won there first match against HC Davos with 6-1. Could be a fast bo7 haha (fingers crossed). Oh and my boss will not be amused, he lost the first bet of maybe some more coming, because he is for HCD

Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Morning All. Clear and a chilly 46° greeted me on the first trip out on the back porch. Wind is still out of the North, so it probably won't get much above 70° today. Weather forecasters are calling for heavy thunderstorms from Wednesday thru Saturday.
Back on the mower yesterday afternoon, doing the east side of the yard between the house and road. That's my biggest chunk of about 3/4 acre, but it's also the easiest with very few obstructions. Forty trees along the road are somewhat easy to maneuver around and the ones closest to the house are done with the push mower. No pool, flower beds, outbuildings, garden or woodpiles in the way. Today I'll get the south side again. Also today, I plan to make the Green Bean planting in the garden. I am also going to plant another short section of Lettuce that might be OK if it doesn't warm up too much later in May. Otherwise it will bolt and go to seed quickly in the heat.
As usual for a Sunday, I only spent a short time out in the train shed yesterday. Short break from the project list. I just touched up and completed some figures that just needed hair, shoes or other brown touch up done. Another dozen or so are now ready for the dull coat bath.
I'm down to just a few on the "in progress" palette so I can grab some more to do in spare or down time.
I'm getting ready to start the next quarterly layout cleaning project, this time it's the next 40' or so of the upper level. The whole section is all one town called Vernon. It is the town that I am currently featuring in my layout thread so I will be able to get some updated pictures for that thread. I'll get sidetracked here and there as I hit some of the structures and areas on my "to do" project list.

Joe - Kudos on the $7 refund. I fully agree with your reason #2 as I have posted previously. Changes in tax law are as certain as the proverbial death and taxes statement. My wife still keeps up with her H&R Block training even though she retired in 2022, so we're (she) is up to date.
Troy - Pollinating those Squash with a Q-Tip is the hard way. I just snap off a stamen from the male flowers and insert it into the pistil of the female flower and wiggle it around. Female flowers for those who are unfamiliar have a miniature squash on the stem that grows into the real thing if pollinated. I do it as insurance against the potential lack of honey bee activity.
Chad - If a person is not bi-lingual in San Antonio, it's almost impossible to live there. Actually much of our state is that way but not quite as prevalent. I learned Spanish 40 years ago so I could understand what the employees at work were saying. They mostly understand English but always talk among themselves in Spanish. They were always surprised when the "old white guy" responded in Spanish to something that they said.
Patrick - I can see a couple of those blinking red lights from the nearby wind farm from my yard, but the landscape and where my neighbors park their cars mostly block them. At best I can see three. However if I drive about three miles up our road, I can see most of the 53 of them blinking simultaneously. Quite a sight. I haven't figured out how they manage that but I really haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it.

I have the M1 in the iPad. At this point, I can't imagine needing anything more powerful for a tablet.

Good evening all. I have received a letter from the hospital. Basically the doctors were wary of what was under the shadow of my partially collapsed lung. A large percentage of the time in patients it is a cancer. The results of the recent procedure came back negative on the Big C. The doctors tried to reinflate the lung , but were unsuccessful. Whatever, I'll take that.
