Second Son lives in Eastern Carolina , works adjacent to MCAS Cherry Point, and that's why we selected that area.
Noted. This last visit I was able to visit Nick's Trains in Raleigh.
Nice shop with floor to ceiling stock. Lots of vintage kits too, Red Ball, Quality Craft and others. A 100 Ton Walthers cement hopper followed me home.
Wife wants to be near Clayton for the Gkids, Also she and I each have a sister in Wilmington, and son # 3 and the DIL have a 5-10 year plan to move to the Wilmington area. Son #1 has a girlfriend in Minnesota, son #2 is located in Northern Va with a gubmint contractor job. Just gotta see where son #4 lands. Then we can fly. Wife has already decided on a 2 bedroom place with a pool, pickleball, walking paths, clubhouse and dear God, an HOA. Sorry if I don't seem thrilled at that prospect. Lots of flying objects to nail down.
Supposedly I'm distantly related to (cousins somewhat removed) from the Captain of the USS Maine.
That and one of the great-something grandfathers on my father's side worked for the GN or NP out of chicago. Had 9 wives. He was only widowed once. Evidently, he had a wife in each town he overnighted in ... I bet some track was torn up by angry jilted women when they found out about one another.
In my current family search, I spent tonight trying to find out if either of my greats from Canada ever renounced their British Subjectness ... technically, Canada wasn't a nation then, so they were British Subjects. But Canadian law eventually made them citizens after the fact.
Since both Great4 and Great3 emigrated from what is now Ontario down to Indiana right about the time the US Civil War 1 broke out, I can see why they didn't. "Canadian"/British Mennonites didn't want to be conscripted.

Good afternoon folks from HOT Arkansas. 96F right now, HI of 107. Well, the ball game last night was a blast. The boys were great, well behaved, good mannered and a delight to be with. The Arkansas Travelers had the San Antonio Missions there and the Travelers won 9-1. Bought the boys hats as we got the tickets and food for all of us for free [well they were given by a company who will be installing a remodel shower job for us]. Fireworks after the game and we got home around 11.
Church today was excellent, guest speaker in and spoke on the family both services, this morning he was very blunt about men needing to man up to care for our families. Something we all need to hear from time to time. Pot luck lunch between services, which is always good food.
Got home, took a quick nap, now on to the evening! Which is scheduled to be pretty quiet.

Honestly, I'm not fond of the warmer days or high humidity either. I will be about the same distance from the shore / beach, and as a bonus I'll be closer to Camp Lejeune than the Joint Base, but that's a wash. It gets hot here in Jersey also, and it's almost always humid here. We have our air show night and day. I will not miss the cold nor the snow. Last winter cured me of that delusion. The one story house, is actually a few hundred square feet larger,but no steps... Now to find space for the model railroad.
Terry, we did check that area, actually a South Carolina suburb of Charlotte. Even an AHL Hockey team. Thhe evening we got there, from Clarksville TN, there was close to a foot of snow on the ground, and more falling. Wife didn't like that at all.

Found it. Strange how the manual doesn't mention it. My ToM decoders sometimes start going again when the interruption happens, but the functions don't come back at all times. I'm going to have to check their settings.
Something I learned about that area. It snows from time to time, but it doesn't stay on the ground long. In a few days, the temps are generally back into the 50s for highs. And the Charlotte area is close to the North Carolina Transportation Museum, if one was inclined to visit, with Little Choo Choo Shop hobby shop across the street.

I have a strange sense of timing.
I have tried to get on the forum several times since i got home yesterday from the family reunion.
Among the renewal of seeing some cousins from missing last year's reunion, I met a 5th cousin from Arkansas. Seems his great grandfather was one of the 8 brothers of my great grandfather. We spent over a hour trading genealogy information.
Found out that I am related to a hero of the Revolutionary War. Col. James Williams led a militia company that stopped the British troops in the last battle in the south, at Kings Mountain, NC. It is now a national battleground close to the South Carolina border.
I will have to do some more research on the battle.

You'll never guess what we had for dinner!
But first,
Today is the anniversary trip around the sun day for my sweetie! Her fav Italian place is always closed on Mondays. So she can't choose that location for her birthday dinner.
So, off to the closer Italian place with the awesome breadsticks!
Then ice cream, which probably means Culvers for a mixer!
In other news, yesterday was take out the trash day. I swapped the full bag in the kitchen for a partial from Sweetie's office. We were doing some cooking and baking, so I'd take it out before bed.
No problems, except I forgot.
No problem, the trash truck doesn't come around until about 10 or 11am on Monday. I'll take it out first thing in the morning.
Except with record heat, they start a few hours earlier this week.
I took the bag out at 6:45 to an empty trash bin. OOPS.
Oh, well. I don't have to remember to pull the bin into the garage. I just did that.
Sweetie made these awesome hoagie buns from her sourdough starter discard. BTW: She named the starter "Herman". He's resting in the fridge right now because she doesn't have time to bake this week.
And I smoked a sirloin, thin sliced it, then grilled it on the cast iron with onion and bell pepper slices. toasted the buns, put it all together with some provolone on top for Steak-n-Cheese sammies!
Wife pronounced it worth doing again.

Batting 1000 with models lately. My Manning Wardle sound decoder came in and I tried to get it to fit. The PCB is a terrible design with an E24 socket that the decoder barely/doesn't fit onto. You have to move wires out of the way and the board still sits at an angle. The E24 socket is very tiny and shallow, making for a very loose connection. Everything I tried to do to get the body back on kept unseating the decoder. I think it finally let the smoke out as now, it gets super hot and stops working. Even on my decoder tester. And after all the wrassling to get the body on, the loco now makes a gear grinding noise.
Wrote to Rapido and asked if I could send both back to them for testing and installation. We'll see what they come back with.
If they tell me they won't support, then the next picture of this thing will be of a smouldering heap.
