Troy - Stem rot or Blossom End rot??? Blossom end rot is more common but both are caused by the same things, over-watering and Calcium deficiency. While the eggshells will work if ground finely, they are mainly for more long-term use in soil, as it takes several months for them to actually break down. The bone meal could help, but those plants look to be too mature to get any benefit now. But I wouldn't want to be the one to tell any woman that she's wrong!
Sad to read about the grand-niece and family. Heart-warming to read that she has made it to where she is today. Hope that the next stage in life is more positive.
I believe it's Blossom end rot.

Since we're container gardening, and it's been raining a lot lately, the self-watering reservoir may be the issue. I may suggest we tip the container and drain some of the water.

and the forum has been very unstable this morning.

The forum is STILL unstable, one of the side effects of the "cure" for bots.
8o here already, supposed to stay sunny and get to 86. No rain til Monday, the liars say, we will see. Supposed to be in the upper 80s with rain most of next week.
Got quite a bit accomplished on the lift out for my layout last night, including a new building assembled, nice looking little building, should paint up nicely.
A friend of ours is coming over this afternoon to practice a song for tomorrow's Church special. My wife has a beautiful Alto voice and plays the piano too, very musically talented. Let's just say my singing is so bad I am not allowed in the choir of a Baptist Church and leave it at that.
You guys have a good day.

i finally got back into the forum to report that 2 of the 3 TV weather guessers were right about the rain beginning in Birmingham at noon. The third guesser said 1 PM. As I type this now, I can barely see the tree 40 feet out my back widow.

Things had been wet on the club room floor, but nothing was stored in those areas. we finally got smart enough to know which areas get wet.
Today was graduation day for our Wrecking crew apprentices. We made 13 new official members and one associate member, who lives in another state, but visits her father here regularly.

We had a busy day of construction with more track sidings being laid and 5 structures under various stages of construction.

I think I will check the basement to see if I have enough lumber to build a raft. if needed.

You mean like this one???

Is it just me, or has this entire forum become totally unusable to others as well??? Slow loading, database errors, pictures that don't show up (just the names), or complete nothingness. Can't even post a "like" any more. It's getting to be quite frustrating and a real pain in the ass to use. And let's quit blaming the damn bots. That's not the issue!
It takes a full minute for my "Likes" to register. Took a couple of minutes for the "reply" your post to even load.

Hot in west Texas....John

Good afternoon all!

I see after giving it a several hour break the forum is still wonky! Not quite as bad as this morning.

Weather turned out really nice for our soccer game we attended It was about 72F at game time and there was a slight
breeze which made it very comfortable to be outside in the sun.

Yard is all mowed and trimmed, grocery run is all done, chemicals have been added to the pool, and the
wife and I worked on an overgrown with weeds area of the yard we had been dreading.

Were going out somewhere for dinner tonight for Fathers Day since my daughter is going with a friend who lives on a lake
to an outing that they have every year. She has done this for several years and they always do it on this weekend since they
went thru Catholic school together. She lives out of town and they go to different high schools now so its great to see them
stay in touch.

Have a great rest of your night everyone!

Good afternoon gang!

86° under partly sunny skies in Clayton, North Carolina. Made the drive down this morning. Things went really smooth until we got past DC and entered Virginia. As soon as we got into Virginia, we started running into stop and go traffic that really didn’t clear and get running well again until we were on the Richmond cutoff that goes around the city of Richmond. Once we got past Richmond, things got better in stages up until the North Carolina state line. After that, I 95 resembled a NASCAR track, everybody was 15 to 20 over the speed limit.

I’m not sure what happened with Virginia other than a lot of brain dead drivers.

Even with all the excessive scalp and go traffic as well as the speeds over 70 miles an hour the Colorado did very well posting a 25 miles to the gallon average for the 430 miles it took to get here.

Well, it's become tedious. Less so for me as I only post occasionally, but more frustrating for you guys, yes, certainly as you post much more often. So I get it.

On the other hand, Troy smokes up some mouth-watering stuff and Bill Tilder's breakfast pics are to "die for," as a former girlfriend might have said. Just sayin'.

@santafewillie too.

No, its not just you

I have no clue if this is true, and if it ain't, don't tell me. The story is too good to not share:

The story:
Bostonian Man's Gift of 20ft Traffic Cone Statue, Crowned by Scots Within 10 Minutes of Unveiling

A Boston resident with family roots stretching back to Glasgow in the late 1800s, has created and gifted a giant traffic cone to Scottish fans.

Local man Angus McDougall the 4th unveiled a giant 20 foot traffic cone sculpture in downtown Boston today, as a tribute to the impact Scotland supporters have had on the city during the World Cup.

The enormous cone, constructed by hand over the last 4 days, was intended to celebrate the friendship between Boston and Scotland, the city's booming hospitality trade, and the fact that Scottish fans have somehow managed to turn half of Massachusetts into an outdoor pub.

"My great great great grandfather came over from Glasgow in the 1880s," explained McDougall. "I wanted to honour my heritage and thank the Scottish fans for bringing so much life and energy to Boston."

What happened next has left Bostonians stunned.

According to witnesses, the monument remained in its original condition for approximately ten minutes.

Footage from the scene shows a group of Scottish supporters gathering around the cone shortly after the ceremony before one was heard asking
"That's brilliant... but whaur's its hat?"
Within minutes, a highly organised operation appeared to spring into action.

Witnesses reported Scots disappearing in multiple directions before returning with a small bronze figurine of an unidentified historical figure.

Supporters quickly resorted to a method refined through generations of Scottish engineering by standing on each other's shoulders.

Crowds watched as a human pyramid of kilted volunteers was assembled beside the cone, with the supporter at the top eventually reaching the summit and carefully placing the statue in position.

The crowd below also witnessed what it means to be a true Scotsman, shouts of "Check his tadger!!" coming from the crowd.

The crowning of the cone stands as the official thankyou from Scotland to Boston.

This video came across my desk earlier. It has very little to do with trains, model or otherwise, but is an interesting look at the differences between abandoned buildings in the US, versus Japan:

I've watched less that 2m so far, but this is really well done. Thx for re-posting it.

Honestly, that's beautiful country. So my questions are (I'll ask Kusoji--he might know): How does Japan regard abandonment and new possession? And does Amazon/JP deliver? Prime? LOL.

I'm not kidding. I'm looking to relocate, and am currently looking at almost the entire US. It was just west of the Mississippi not long ago, but I kinda like Memphis too--St. Jude is there, and I'd like to help somehow.

Also thinking about going expat. I have NO (as far as I will go in this thread) issues...none...with the current administration, but Portugal looks interesting too. Costa Rica...maybe. I know a couple of peeps who think well of it.

Ge-Pen had not been on my radar screen at all...until now. And now I wonder....

Financing is not a problem.

Check out Arkansas away from W. Memphis. Just a few miles away is fantastic, we moved here from Illinois 5 years ago and absolutely love it. We are about an hour north of Little Rock and the scenery and area is breathtaking.

Japan regard abandonment
Take a look at this. https://www.akiyajapan.com/japan/abandoned-houses

Prices have gone up since I looked at this stuff a while ago. What you are buying is the land. Houses don't go up in prices over here and depreciate, land value does go up.

You probably need to pay cash for the place as banks don't do loans for foreigners right now. They were off and on for a while, timing had to be right.

As for the legal stuff with abandonment, not sure.

Amazon.jp does deliver and they are quite fast, except for last night when my package was delivered around 2230 and got soaked in the rain. I gave the delivery a poor review.
