Good afternoon all. Dare I say Summer is here. Third day with warm sunshine.
A bottle of Samuel Adams please, Flo.

Stanley Cup (and the like)

Way back in the day; 1950s, I was the 'unofficial' mascot of Henry Barrons Sports & Social Rugby League team.
For three years we did not win anything, but the team improved each year.

Year four and the team won everything. The league, seven a side competition and field goal competition.
On winning the overall playing cup the team went to a local public house 'to celebrate' before going home.
I do not know what they drank; I was too young to go in and had to stay outside.

Every player was awarded a medal as well as the cup. The mascot received nothing, but boy was I pleased for the team. During the four years I travelled with the team all around Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. A great time in my life.

Some players were very good and left to join professional teams.

Good Morning All. Clear skies and 78°. Starting out at 78° is not a good omen, although it only reached 97° yesterday. Forecast is on repeat cycle, hot and dry with highs near 100° from now until September. There might be some high clouds later this afternoon. Oh yes, the semi-permanent heat advisory is in effect and has been since June 8.

Nothing unusual about the eye exam yesterday, I actually saw the Ophthalmologist instead of one of his assistants. Didn't know in advance that they intended to dilate my eyes, so the trip home was interesting! He confirmed that I still have 20/20 vision in both eyes, which I thought so anyway. Still need reading glasses for the phone, but I can normally read the desktop screen without them. At some point I need to set an appointment at the driver's license place and have the restriction removed from my license. I still have about a dozen pair of readers of varying strengths laying around the desk and the workbench.
On the way home, I went to Sam's Club since we skipped that stop last week. Something new at the one we visit, actually a convenient thing. On the way out of the store, there is a pair of what look like giant metal detectors, but are actually just receipt scanners. The result is that you don't have to wait in line for the clerk to scan at your receipt and the goodies in the shopping cart; they just wave you through! Saves a few minutes.
Otherwise a mundane day until it got too warm to work outdoors. The usual stuff which is now down to tree debris and branch removal and processing. At some point, I will get enough removed to start gathering up the remnants of the barn and filling the dumpster. I might hire a crew of helpers for that.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I split my time between figures and running trains. Decided to do two large (to me) switching runs. One of them was switching out 16 loaded covered grain hoppers at the ADM complex. There were 8 each on the loading track and the storage track. Just to make it a bit more complex, the crew had to stop for a few minutes on the passing siding, while I ran an Autorack train by on the main line. The other run was to switch out 16 loaded tankers of Ethanol at the refinery They were split at 8 each on the two loading tracks. I was able to use the main to hold the empties while I assembled the loads on the passing siding.
Meanwhile I performed some minor surgery over on the workbench. So many of these Chinese figures as well as the ones from Preiser are passengers, and I have no passenger trains or stations. So I removed a suitcase from this fellow.

I continued with others and just need a few final colors on a few of them, mostly hair and shoes.

Swal - I haven't formed an opinion regarding the Covid shots yet. I got the first three and felt no adverse effects that I know of. We had a 42 year old niece and a friend's 23 year old son both die before the vaccines were distributed; that was scary so we took the safe path. Every member of both of my daughters' families got sick, several times in some cases, even though they got the shots. This was after the first wave and they just felt ill for about a week and a half. Both my wife and I have pretty robust immune systems, so in retrospect we may not have needed the shots. She was not going to be allowed to have her knee replacement surgeries unless she was vaccinated.
Mac - Nice series of pictures yesterday.
That's why i don't even make yearly trips to any of those buildings with doctors in them. What you don't know, won't hurt you
I resemble that. I managed to go from 1968 until 2005 without seeing a doctor. Then things started happening. It's taken a while, but my primary care guy now knows that I would prefer to work on what causes conditions rather than taking pills to mask the results. Watching those damn carbs has been hard but effective. Moderation has been OK, but I sometimes think "What the heck, I don't have much time left anyway".
Troy - Re: Tinnitus. I found out early on not to fret about it. It isn't going to go away, just get used to it. Masking is a good temporary fix, but it still isn't going to go away. Worrying about it makes it seem worse; and indeed may make it worse. The damage was done years ago and cannot be undone.

Everyone have a terrific Tuesday.

Good morning from So Central Wisconsin where the IPadPro is telling me the property’s weather station received almost 5” of rain from 6am Monday morning to 6am today. I was gone most of yesterday and was unaware of the rain. I can see the beaker out front from the office window and it definitely has water in it. I did empty 2”+ when I got home last night. The storm at 4:15 this morning woke me up. It’s always scary when lightning hits close by and the thunder seems instant. I think our area has had enough rain for a week or 2. I have some yellowing on the leaves of the veggies that the internet tells me because the soil is saturated. The roots are not getting enough oxygen as the soil is too wet to breathe!

Because I was awake at 4:15 from the weather and couldn’t sleep I went down to the trainroom! Added the safety stripes to 2 new cars I received yesterday. After the dentist this afternoon I will start the weathering!

Weather permitting, as the heat index may hit 100, the granddaughter has her softball game at 6:30! I also get to meet the son in laws dad’s new girlfriend. He lost his wife 13 months ago and I think it’s great for him. They were a couple in high school!

Terry, my sister and a friend of each left Japan yesterday heading to Maui. The world travelers claim they are getting tired and are ready to relax for a week there. I have plans to meet them in Pasadena on July 6th and coming home on the 10th.

Enjoy the day

Three things to add or expand on:

1. Scanners at Sam's Club. I heard they were using AI to "look" at your carts. Did you have to scan your receipt as you passed through them? Or is it more like the ones that look for a security tag that wasn't deactivated at the register.

2. Tinnitus, since it ebbs and flows, increasing and decreasing in volume, you can train your brain to minimize it - IF it's not cause by a neurological component. EG, not a head injury. Even then the tinnitus is repairable to some degree once the injury heals. The audiologists I've been following are using a mix of cognitive behavioural changes (eg stress reducing techniques) along with sound therapy and maskers set just below the tinnitus level. Since tinnitus is caused by the brain, you can get the brain to push it to the background. Like you said, ignore it... that is what the maskers and CBT are teaching me to do.

On Youtube, Dr. Cliff AuD and Treble Health (also an audiology practice) cover the concept pretty well. It's not an instant cure, but it does make a difference. My highs have gone from a volume of 7-8 to 5-6. Goal is to get it back to a 3 which is easy to ignore.

3. Vaccines: First, their purpose to prevent SERIOUS illness.

Think Polio. About 75% of cases are asymptomatic. Meaning no symptoms. You don't know you're infected even without a vaccine. Another 24% of cases are mild symptoms. Headache, stiff neck for a week or so. It's the remaining percentage that we all know (FDR was one who suffered at this level). THAT is the part the vaccine targets. We can be infected by the polio virus, and our vaccine kicks in to make anitbodies from B and T cells. Sometimes, you might dip into the minor symptoms. Others, you won't even know the vax was doing it's job.

So, that means a misconception about vaccines has arisen. Many think it's to prevent all symptoms. Nope. To prevent SERIOUS illness. The same with MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). You catch one of the viruses, and your body fights it off. You might feel down for a day or two as your T and B cells ramp up the Daleks inside of you for EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE! (Dr. Who reference, for those of you in Rio Linda).

This is why getting a Vax may cause you to feel down for a day or so. I get that from almost every shot. The next day I feel like crap. Kinda like a tetanus shot makes my arm ache for a few days. The vax is retraining your little Dalek cells (B and T) what to look for. They hold a couple of military drills to make sure everyone is trained up. That's what makes you feel blah, or even get a mild fever. The fever is caused by your immune system firing up the Daleks. They go blasting away, and you feel blah, but the virus is EXTERMINATED! Good little Daleks.

Hope that helps.

Good Morning All!
50F @ 64% with severe clear. Got to 82F yesterday, same or higher today.

Willie: Boy, shots ... we did not get any of the shots or boosters. We both got the China Virus; me twice, Maria thrice. Maria's last bout was worse as she got dehydrated and needed to go to the ER and get filled up. Our immune systems are also pretty hardy; me thinks because we do not wash our hands with the desanitizer stuff everybody seems to be infatuated with. That came from the Doc telling us years ago to let the kids go out and get dirty, and don't care if they eat dirt; kids were always seeming to catch something until we started that.

Tom: Years ago we were at the mining property messing around down at the creek; it was cloudy. Our hair started to rise and it was deadly quite. We looked at each other and giggled, then realized that lighting was about to strike. Dove into cover as much as we could. Yup, Flash and Bang were almost on top of each other! Don't know if it grounded itself or just tickled another cloud.

Got side tracked yesterday. Went to a friends house the day before and he offered a Hot Tub to us that had been sitting on his trailer for about a year. Looked in it and the inside was next to brand new. Outside needs some Redwood stain. None of the internals were out in the weather. This is a six footer that is going on the deck outside of our bedroom; maybe before winter, maybe not. Need to extend the deck, get power and water to that spot. Covered it up with a tarp and strapped it down so the wind does not blow the cover off.

Back to the 'move the RV' stuff. Pad is almost done, need to dig pathways for power and water and fill that in, then put in a septic. Will cover it all with pea gravel. Think I still know how to 'back' a trailer ( RV in this case ) so we should be good to go.

Later

3. Vaccines: First, their purpose to prevent SERIOUS illness.
The C19 "vaccines" aren't really vaccines in the traditional sense and they've done a lot more harm than good, They prevented very little serious illness. There are plenty of peer reviewed papers and serious reports from serious institutions, national health ministries, etc. detailing all the harms and damage that has come through the C19 "vaccines". It is estimated by real life doctors and scientists (not fringe) that the death count from the vaccine will end up being much higher than from C19 when it's all over. A lot of it is heart related.

And vaccines are typically to prevent disease. Not just serious disease. We don't see low level cases of small pox, polio, bacterial meningitis, etc out there amongst the vaccinated crowd for these and most traditional diseases. This redefinition to "preventing serious disease" meaning that it still works even if you get Covid came about during the pandemic when it became clear that the vaccines weren't doing what they were supposed to be doing. The CDC website definition was changed DURING the pandemic.

There is good evidence that the more boosters you got the more susceptible you were -- that the C19 vaccine went negative in its protection after a very short amount of time as the boosters piled up.

I woke up in time to see much of the third period. I didn't see a single goal, but it was amazing to watch!
That's because Goalie Bob was standing on his head making stops and saves. I think it was wrong to give the Conn Smythe to Mcjesus, instead of Bob...It's for MVP of the whole playoffs, and that's how Bob got there too. Florida would never got anywhere without Bob.

Vaccines: First, their purpose to prevent SERIOUS illness.
That was my experience. I had the vaccine and the boosters. When I got Covid it was not even a bad cold and I felt better the next day. Considering all my chronic conditions, that was a blessing. I wouldn't have known I had Covid if not for my wife and her home tests. I tested positive for three days. but only had mild cold symptoms for one day.

I'm not a doctor, but I do listen to my doctors.

and yet another easy chair theory of COVID and the vaccine. Just ignor what the Army says about virus', vaccines and protective filters. They prolly have no idea what they're talking about.
Agreed.

I'm not skeptical about the vaccines, although I think the Covid hysteria itself may have been over blown, and /or misdiagnosed.

The Vaccine apparently works, I didn't have covid - the wife didn't have covid ergo the shots worked as intended.

Did the vaccine cause my heart problems last year...maybe? But...I spent 12 hours on the line at a hazmat fire in 1978 that affected most of those who fought it, or were present there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wade_Dump...45 years later, it could have caused it too...or maybe just turning 74?

One thing I learned from life, nothing is that absolute.

I had the shot and the booster, still lost a week of my life to Covid. So much for effectiveness.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at 77F and humid. After that I did chores. In the train room I started painting some figures that will go with one of the new builds. Speaking of kits, I received notice that the 2 kits I ordered are being processed which I take to mean being laser cut.

Louis- Great Ozzy song.

Troy- How's your Mom doing?

I think I'll stay out of the vaccine debate. It's one of those arguments that no one will change anyone else's opinion.

I hope everyone has a good night.
