Good Morning All. Clear and 74°, reached 99° yesterday. Expecting the same today and at least every day until September. Haven't officially reached 100° yet.

I have a follow-up appointment with the cataract doctor this morning at 0930. Probably won't actually see him, but will see one of his therapeutic optometrists instead. There's a young Muslim lady who is really good and I like her because she speaks very clearly, an advantage with my hearing aids. After I get home, I plan to finish mowing the east side which I skipped yesterday. I have reduced my outdoor "work periods" from 45 minutes to 30 minutes between breaks due to the heat. I would go further if we had wind in the morning, but that doesn't usually kick in until afternoon.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was a mixed bag of projects. I did paint two more colors on the figures, but set them aside for a structure build that I have been waiting for the mood to hit. You may remember this cardstock structure that the leaky roof produced?

There is no way to repair this, and I haven't been able to find the downloaded file, (if I did download it to begin with). So I grabbed a Walther's kit of metal yard sheds and selected one of them.

I selected one of the large ones pictured in the lower left. The kit has 2@ of 3 different sheds.

I assembled the walls and then painted it light blue, added the assembled windows and doors and painted the roof white.

It actually exactly fit the existing footprint!

Simple easy project completed. It is in the area behind the Red River Valley grain elevator. Here is an old picture.

Forgot to take a newer long shot.

Ken - Your experiences with dentists is quite different from what I have experienced here. My current dentist is the son of the one that I used 40 years ago. I didn't know that when I first started seeing him.
Joe - I too have seen what happens when folks start to depend on wheelchairs when they don't really need them to begin with. I'll take minor pain rather than limit my movements. That's not to say that they are not a necessity in some cases.
Grizzled - There seems to be more than enough folks paying AARP to lobby for all of us!
Chad - I think that what is called Longhorn Cheddar is actually a Colby type. Cheeses made from Longhorn milk tend to be a crumbly type like Red Leicester.

Everybody have a great Monday. Stay cool and hydrated.

OK gang, I'm looking for ideas!

I've got several brass locos that need to be stripped of old paint and refinished. I've got one that has been soaking in a 95% alcohol solution and so far after a week the paint is soft, but not lifting. My next thought is lacquer thinner bath, but where would I get a suitable resealable container. Something bigger than a 1 gallon paint can, yet smaller than a 5 gallon metal bucket.

any ideas??

BTW, The parts I am stripping have zero plastic parts
DOT 3 brake fluid. Remember what a car fender looks like if you spill brake fluid on it, and don't clean it off right away?

Have you tried DOT 3 brake fluid? Works wonders. I keep the fluid from my brake bleeding jobs just for that use. DOT 3 is an ester based alcohol.

Morning folks

Another day sans any clouds. Currently 53F with a forecast high of 85. Sort of a repeat of yesterday although that forecast was for 91 and 87 was as high as it got here, not that that is a significant difference. Didn't get any railroad related time in yesterday and that is going to be another repeat for today. Domestic duties.

That's sort of what I was getting at...the other problem is that short term need sometimes turns into long term usage. Inertia...
Unrelated example: When I was being discharged from the hospital, a condition was home oxygen therapy. I didn't need it but the Social Worker determined I needed it. She got a PA to sign off on it. I never used it. Verified I didn't need it from my Pulmonology Doctor...and had it removed.
You would be surprised how many calls I had from various fields trying to get me to change my mind. It would have been another billable. They also prefer renting wheelchairs....cash stream....

Good morning all; in the "Garden State" today...but away from major metropolitan area. Sunny, windy and all together rather pleasant summer day. I finally was able to drive out to the mountains yesterday and do some hiking. Ended up at the Horseshoe Curve and hiked the trail up to MG Tower (Mid Grade):

This is one of few Pennsy towers still standing on the mainline to Pittsburgh. Besides a few double stacks and an easbound unit coal drag, this very colorfull mixed westbound showed up:

The fourth unit up front was a rare now GP38-2 Hi-nose:

Few more interesting cars:

In the consist was a tank with graffiti, rare for a tank:

A sharp eye on that coil car above will detect Norfolk and Western marks.

There was a DPU near the end and two pushers in the rear making 7 total locomotives employed on that train, and all wide open;

Since I pour the cereal first, I can't see the milk level in the white bowl. I pour until the cereal begins to move due to buoyancy. Any stop before then is inevitably too short on milk.
This cereal talk deserves a doctorate investigation...but i found out that some cereals absorb milk slower, and you end up with more milk than you wanted. Of course with cereals like Lucky Charms, the left over milk is a pleasure to drink up😁
