Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 76° here in North Central Texas. High today in the low 90's like yesterday, next few days will be breezy with 12-15 mph winds from the SE. While SE winds usually bring moisture, the NWS has removed the rain from this week's forecast. From my years of observations, I think that there's still a reasonable chance Wednesday night/Thursday morning. But they don't pay me for that.
I hope that all had a good Father's Day yesterday. I spent the day at daughter #1's in a Buffalo Wing eating competition. Not the all you can eat type, but who could eat the spiciest. We had four competitors and nine levels of spicy dipping sauce. Participants were me, my son-in-law, my 15 yo grandson, and the father of my granddaughter's best friend. Dipping sauces from mild to spiciest were these:
The Truck Stop listed was a Tabasco Pepper blend, not sure what Hot on the Road contained.
All of us made it through all nine, although the Carolina Reaper nearly knocked two tasters out! Grandson and I ate the entire final wing.
For those unfamiliar with spiciness of peppers, here is the Scoville Scale.
Carolina Reaper is a recently developed variety, seemingly bred for events just like this. It actually had a good taste besides being quite spicy.
No prizes were given other than recognition. My other grandson and his dad did not participate, nor did any of the ladies present.
After getting home for the evening, I grilled a Strip Steak and some Yellow Squash and made sauteed mushrooms and a garden salad.
Back to the homestead grind today. Time to start gathering and stacking the various piles of firewood scattered about the place. There's still some debris leftover from the tornado that has to be gathered up, mostly in the woodlot area where I don't mow anyway. Most of the garden is unsalvageable, although I may still get some tomatoes. All of the quarter-sized ones and the blossoms were blown off the vine by the tornado and ensuing winds, and then it got too warm for the flowers to pollinate. I think that I will be able to harvest some squash soon, as those plants survived OK, but the fragile Green Bean plants will not recover.
The best thing that could have happened on Father's Day would have been an uninterrupted day out in the train shed. But that didn't happen. I never made it out there. Several projects are still in the works. I should rework that ground foam that washed away around Miss Betty's Diner; that shouldn't take long. And then repaint the spots in the parking lot that I scraped away when removing the foam from there. Rebuilding that house is also in the works since I have already printed it out and made a few cutouts. I'd like to run a train or three just to keep the engineers busy. No shortage of other stuff to do either.
Swal - Congratulations on the successful garage sale. At first I thought "Ten clocks! Holy Cow!". Then I counted and we have at least ten plus and at least that many more connected to appliances and Alexa. We may have even more back in the unused kids bedrooms!
That golf course law is an unusual law for New York. Who are they taxing to pay for it???
Troy -
As for old fart brains, hopefully, Dr. Ronnie Johnson can administer a cognitive test to both of them.
Did you mean Dr. Ronny Jackson? He's the one in Congress that was physician to both Trump and Obama in the White House, who now represents my former district in Congress. He has been very vocal about testing all older politicians.
David - Those news sources may hold a partisan agenda regarding their home country, but when reporting news from the states, they are mostly non-partisan. While that's where I get my unbiased news reporting, I also read both sides of the spectrum here, like CNN and Fox. Always interesting is their individual spins on the same news. I form my opinions after reading many sources.
Curt - If you landed at Love Field, then you flew directly over my property. All Southwest flights from the west come eastbound overhead and then turn south about 25 miles east of me. they're generally flying between 6500' and 8500' when over me. That is when prevailing winds are out of the south which they are about 325 days of the year here.
Terry - I have also been reading of the high maintenance costs, and the even higher costs for accident repair (and the ensuing rise in insurance costs). It's partly due to all of the sensors and other technology (some government mandated) that are in our vehicles now. Can't just replace a fender or bumper, a specialized mechanic has to install and calibrate all of the sensors.
Everybody have a great day.
