Eating hot & spicy foods will give you the same euphoric feeling you get after a hard workout. Your body releases endorphines that give you a little bit of a "high" feeling after working out. Spicy food has the same effect.

You guys go for your run. I'll reach for hot peppers, thank you! :)

I love some heat, but it has to have flavor. I agree with @chadbag that flavor is more important than heat. I like an out of body experience when eating hot foods, but not if the flavor isn't there. Runny nose and watery eyes... Euphoric feeling. You build up a tolerance.

IMO, Tabasco brand is way overrated. Not much flavor, but a lot of heat. Texas Pete's or Frank's Red Hot are both so much better, but also not quite as hot. I also agree that Jalapeño peppers are not very flavorful, but smoked Jalapeños (Chipotle) are really good. I'm a huge Habanero fan, especially on scrambled eggs. I also really like Thai peppers.

I disagree. I work out regurarly and after getting a "pump" in muscle group i work out, the feeling is totally different. While burning in my throat and eyes might release endorphines it is not a pleasant feeling. On the contrary after a good workout a "pump" where the blood is rushing into muscles is a great feeling and no burning throat or running eyes. Completely different feeling and completely different results, not to mention staying fit is beneficial and burning your throat and stomach-not really.

Good Morning All. Clear and 63°, possibly going back up to 90° later today. Barely made it there yesterday. Rain has been removed from today's forecast, so have the triple digit predictions for late next week been removed! I think that the NWS was just teasing us. By the way, the pool reached 80° late Monday, but the water is still cloudy, not dirty but cloudy. I added a flocculent, aka clarifier, to the water yesterday afternoon that is supposed to bind and settle microscopic solids for vacuuming. The pool is safe to use, but we like the water to be sparklingly clear.

Besides pool maintenance yesterday, I picked another batch of Green Beans, Cherry Tomatoes and the first four Jalapeno Peppers. Today will be Yellow Squash and tomorrow it will be Zucchini Squash. 95% of the Onions are out and drying and I will freeze another batch of Broccoli today. I need to start removing the spent Broccoli and English Pea plants, as they are both done for sure due to the ever increasing temperatures.

Cell Phone service - We're kinda stuck with AT&T since T-Mobile and Verizon service to our location is spotty. AT&T has been an excellent provider for us and they have a tower just over a mile away. Talking to a human does require some patience, and thanks to the CWA, many domestic call centers are now moving overseas. We still mostly get Oklahoma City though, fortunately it is generally not problems that we are dealing with.

Not much went on out in the train shed yesterday. Between the garden, pool and domestic chores, I didn't get a lot of time out there. I did plant some more trees but I mainly ran some trains. It has been a few days and that's why it's out there.
How about a few engine pictures today?

Karl - The "exploded view" kit instructions in Walther's kits, almost always have missing or mis-identified parts
Joe - Good to see you again.
Chad - I grew a Habenero plant once before, just for grins. They are a really nice orange color. I used it to make Salsa. I only used a small sliver diced up for each jar. Note that I posted just "once". It had dozens of Peppers on it and I barely used 1/4 of one and composted the rest. If I need another, I can purchase them at my local Kroger which has them fresh year-round. While it is the hottest Western Hemisphere Pepper, there are some small Thai ones that are much hotter. Habeneros are between 150,000 and 300,000 on the Scoville scale, while those Thai ones are over 1,500,000. By comparison, Jalapenos are around 4,000, Cayenne's and Tabasco's are 40,000. I don't know much about the Carolina Reaper or if it is available commercially.
Louis - I use A-1 sauce on fried chicken strips and chicken fried steak, never on a good quality meat.

Everyone have a great day.

Endorphins do play an important role in our holistic health. Nobody believes that eating spicy foods is as healthy as a workout, it was my attempt at humor, but there is fact in what I said.

A good meal triggers the release of endorphins. A little heat increases the effect, thereby enhancing one's holistic health beyond the temporary side effect of mild discomfort.

Good Morning All!

Bacon: Only two ways for that - either raw or floppy! Crunchy bacon is a waste of pig.

Demo/ReDo has progressed. Almost bare walls in the North room. Did find some interesting stuff though. Pulled the particle board off the logs which were used for crawling on if you needed to get somewhere in that part of the attic. The funny thing about the particle board over the logs is that the ceiling below is 3/4" tongue and groove of which you could probably drive on. Well, the electrical is a real clusterF as you can see from the pix. Who ever did this had no clue. 3 20A breakers now control the upstairs and get this: one outlet and the ceiling light in the kitchen, an outlet in the living room and the South bathroom ceiling light. There is no rhyme or reason to how they connected stuff up!

So after we get that last wall bare, will look for a place for a new drop from the main breaker box. Trouble with that is that the breaker box is on the other side of the logs and there is not a pathway from that to the upstairs. So I will probably run conduit on the outside of the house up to the North room and back in. Planning on a 240V 40Amp box upstairs which should take care of the 2 rooms.

We think that those 2x4's on edge were put that way just to clear those insulators sticking up. Some of that wiring is still active, while other parts are not. No clue to why the dead stuff was not taken out when it was last modified. Go figure. It is all gonna be gone soon!

Boy, looking at the lack of insulation and the crappy wiring, we are glad we started this.

I love the nostalgia of a cool steamer, but I just don't get the fascination with huge ones. I much prefer the looks of a Pacific or Makado over these Behemouths.
Jeff: If your curve radii will handle one - get one, then you can see the magic! I have 15 or so; 4-8-8-4's and 2-6-6-2's and some articulated logging loco's, 2-8-8-2's I think. Don't forget about Shay's - smaller but just as busy when you watch them run.

I have no idea what goes in it. All I know is sweet, creamy, and delicious! I've only known two people who could make it like that. The man who raised me. He passed way 5/5/1972. Over thirty years later, my wife made it for me.

Hey you old Beach Bum! I missed you! I was hoping you had your toes in the sand, with a drink in your hand and the beautiful Natasha by your side.

Spring cleaning, not as fun, but I'm glad to hear you and Natsha are doing better.

What is brown sauce?

That is interesting. The only hot pepper I eat is jalapenos. The others I've tried (very few) are too hot. They overpower my sense of taste completely. All I taste is hot when I eat other peppers. I love the flavor of jalapenos. I must have a low tolerance for hot stuff.

Chad, to be honest when you first started posting I did take some of your posts as confrontational. Now that I know you, I no longer see your posts as confrontational. Now I see your posts for what they are; informative and educational. Thank you!
If one describes brown sauce it sounds gross, but it is easily beter than ketchup in the right place, think of a bbq sauce with no tomatoes, tangy hard to describe but wakes you taste buds up as they stand to attention and salute!
