Good afternoon. I knew today wouldn't be complete without some major frustration.
I've been dealing with my previous state wanting $$$ for not having insurance on a car I no longer own, unless I can prove to them I no longer own it. Last month I sent the required documents certified mail, and they disappeared. So this time, I was told to fax the documents. My HP combo printer refused to fax, so I went to the closest UPS Store, and tried faxing everything using the fax number supplied to me by the DMV. The number has been disconnected.
So, after sitting in my car on hold for almost an hour, the person I finally spoke to told me to scan the documents and email them to an email address she provided. I then came home, and turned on the HP Print/Scan/Fax machine, and-- well, it refused to scan.First, it insisted on sending my documents to their cloud server, which would process them, and send them back to my computer as scanned documents. My documents would remain on their server. Against my better judgement, I agreed to this, as I really need those documents. So, I scanned everything, it was received by HP's server (probably in China), and--nothing. Sorry, we can't transmit those documents back to you because your connection isn't secure. After much cursing and gnashing of teeth, I gave up.
My new Canon printer will be here tomorrow, and I'll never buy another HP printing device again. And HP has all my identifying information on those documents, my name, address, date of birth, driver's license number, license plate number, and a copy of my signature. I would advise as strongly as possible for anybody to never use HP's scan service, for obvious reasons.

Murphy must have your new address already.

Every time I've driven on the turnpike, I get the feeling I don't have enough life insurance!
Yo! you didn't include the Parkway, or 9; 1 & 9. The turnpike is a mild 6 lanes in each direction separating truck lanes and car lanes...easy peasey!
Driscoll Bridge (Parkway crossing Raritan River), on BENNY - GUIDO Friday is a challenge though.

The latest online Keystone Modeler has a fantastic article from a person that scratch built the 100 ft. TT (HO scale) that was at Shire Oaks yard (by Pittsburgh).
Cool, have to check that out.

Went to Logan's Roadhouse for a steak and sweet potato tonight.

Wife gets the meatloaf dinner, which she can make into three meals.

Got home and painted some miniatures. Pics later. They're all sorts of ugly now.

Went on a walk to get another 3K steps in.

Washed my face for the evening, and bam... burst a blood vessel in my eye as I was washing it. Oh joy. No pics of that either. It's my normal ugly but with a read eye.

Do you have a smart phone or iPad or something? There are multiple scanning apps that will take a photo and turn it into a scan for you, right on-device. No Cloud service necessary.

They have had some ugly wrecks there over the years. Used to drive to work, Parkway, (98), to Turnpike, (11 to 14), every day...drive home 1 & 9 to 9. It would be worse if they didn't separate the Car-Bus-Truck lanes from the car lanes.
Lived in Jersey for a bit. Worked in Cranberry. Found a Great MR shop there. Can't remember the name anymore, but it was a few minutes south of Cranberry. Don't know if its still there, but it was a great place, with a great proprietor. Be interested to know if it is still there, if any of the Jersey people know its status, let me know.

Ouch ouch ouch, my other half would be climbing the wall by now totally stressed out, so much personal details :( hopefully HP is so stupid it will just remain lost forever. hopefully the Cannon turns out to be more robust.
Our last new printer had the smallest ever toners we have ever seen and the rep, acements are SO expensive it might be cheaper to buy another new one, also different model, grrrrrr.
I only read bad reviews on line as those tend to be honest, whereas glowing ones can be paid for.
fingers crossed.

Well, howdy there internet peeps

One thought on Terry's conundrum and feud with the Jersey thugs... er govt...

I remember several years (decades????) ago, here in Indiana, the Tweedles (Dumms and Dees) in the statehouse decided they weren't getting enough money from license/registration for autos... Seems too many people were "moving to Florida" for three or four months (guess which), but still spending most of their time in Indiana.

Seems the old farts were registering their cars in FLORIDA, and driving most of the year in Indiana, avoiding a tax.

Well, by gosh, the poly-tic-ans told the people that registration money went to fix the roads. (Mostly a lie, it ended up in the general budget, like the sales tax on gasoline does too)

So they enacted a law, as soooooo many other states did at the time, that if you live in the snowy state for X% of the year, your auto must be registered there, not in Florida.

I suspect that Terry's case is a residual of the push back then for the states to claw back their lost revenue. The base assumption is that if you leave, you really didn't. Especially if you show a Florida address.

this isn't an excuse, just the explanation of where the dumb-arsed legal situation probably arose.

To offset that, here's a funny from the book of faces:

I never load anything to the cloud except video's that I want to share with you guys, look for a programme called "U Scan Utility" which is freeware, it will do everything you need and save it directly to your computer, I've used it for maybe 9 or 10 years now, no problem or issues even when I had a HP printer/scanner, (I now have a Cannon MG3200 series), worked straight off with no issues with this printer too.

Good Morning All. Clear and 69° here on the SFW estate. Might hit 90° today, just 89° yesterday. Thunderstorms predicted for the next 4 days. If they indeed happen, they will be a month late. May is normally our wettest month, but this year, only about 3" versus a normal 7"-8". I've been watering the garden as a result.

Uneventful grocery trek yesterday, gasoline is still in the $3.06-$3.09/gal range except at the major oil places like Exxon or Chevron where they are charging $3.29. I did note that egg prices are falling but produce is going up.

Later I picked more onions and my first 6 Cherry Tomatoes. I held off on the Green Beans until today. Had to mow east and north of the train shed, today will be the backyard between the house and pool. Still filtering the pool water, it's taking longer this year, but the water temperature has just climbed to 78°, almost bearable for use.

Speaking of the train shed, all that I did out there yesterday was to run a few trains - it's been a few days.
From the archives, here's a few "down the line" scenes.

Jeff - For watching carb intake, mashed Cauliflower is a great substitute for mashed potatoes. Zucchini Squash can be cut into french fries or made into pasta with a Spiralizer.
Troy - Here's hoping for a rapid recovery.

Today is National Donut Day. Freebies are generally given out at leading retailers if they are your thing. I don't eat them, too much sugar and carbs.

Everybody have a great day, the weekend is next.
