So they won their second game. In a nail biter. They pretty much traded goals throughout the game. We were ahead at the end 6-5 and they ended up scoring with 13 seconds left. So tied 6-6. We pulled our goalie and pressed with a man advantage and scored with 1 sec left. They put everyone in the goal and the other team lobbed it from half court in the last second and it almost made it through the wall of hands but didn’t. So we won 7-6.
Congratulations!

The players and anyone who saw that game will never forget it. I'm happy for your daughter, you and your family, but i feel bad for the other team. Nothing hurts more than losing a game you could have won. "The wonderful world of sports"

Good Monday morning, Coffee Shop! It's 64°F (18°C) and mostly clear.

Weather:
Mostly sunny then becoming partly cloudy through early afternoon then becoming mostly sunny. Patchy fog toward daybreak. Patchy smoke. Highs in the mid 80s. East winds around 5 mph becoming south.

Have a great day!;)

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with balls of sport,

It's Troy again.

Still hoping the water polo horses don't drown

I'll probably be inside for today again. Weather looks nice until the storms rage in this evening. But that air quality. I'm not sure which is worse, the smoke from all the coal burning or the wildfires across North America. Both will keep me inside.

Got an HOA board meeting tonight. They're trying to rubber stamp the new regulations post-attorney-review (which corrected formatting and changes some very minor language)... I'll be there grumping. The doc still has some flaws.
Wife says we're making strombolis tonight for dinner. These are midwestern strombolis. Much like Chili, each region of the country has it's own understanding of a stromboli.

Need to order some documents from the State of Indiana for my Canadian Citizenship quest. Daughter finally sent me her "short form" birth certificate, so I can request the long form of it. All the hoops are getting jumped through. Hopefully I'll hear from the attorney today about the review of what I already have, and what needs to be ordered.

Unfortunately, I may still need to hire a genealogist for some on the site research in Waterloo Ont. The old Mennonite archives there are not digitized, and the university will not provide research time. All that to show that Mennonites don't keep baptism records of babies (what the Canadian government relies on for "birth records" prior to when the British Gov decided to start recording them in North America.)

I'm listening to the Book "Dominion" about the railway and the rise of Canada as a nation.

Very interesting. I like that it doesn't sugar-coat the normal issues that tend to get buried about the politics of the day.

I may put that in the ears, and start sanding the spackle today. I'll probably need one more coat on a few spots, but I should be getting close to putting down the roadbed.

Good morning from my part of Wisconsin! AQI is showing 113 right now at 6:29 compared to 186 at 4:15 when I checked it. If we get the severe storms that are possible this morning that should clear the air for a day or 2. It is 63f degrees going to 83. You definitely can still smell the smoke

The plan today is at 1 to set up the party tent at the spot the new house will be. The son in law and me can set it up in about 30 minutes and it can survive a good storm as it’s been proven. We will then check the spot out over the next few days that after today will be calm, Smokey and dry. I still think it will be mosquito heaven but what do I know

I am going next door to the workspace and start some birch tree construction

Enjoy the day

Good morning all!

Monday, Monday......

Another hazy air quality day. Our area is only in the moderate readings. Currently a humid 63F. High will top out at around 87F. Possible
scattered rain showers later this evening.

Usual household stuff around the house this morning. Have the dishwasher to empty, and a couple loads of laundry. I will mow later when dry.
Have to run the daughter to strength and conditioning at the high school this morning as well.

Not much else going on around here at the moment/

Have a safe day everyone!

what up folks!

iam back! I survived the Tournament ;) Overall great tournament, on saturday we had some weather delay because of lightning. lucky i was already done with round one. made a stupid mistake (or two) but overall ended with +6. On Sunday, better weather and less mistakes but still had a tripple bogey on one hole :/. in the end +5 for the round, so overall +11 and P6! Iam happy. played over my rating, that was the goal.

Here two pictures from saturday (yes we played discgolf on a ball golf course (on the sides of there fairways).

Cheers and a great start for the week for you all.

Good Morning All. Clear and 76°. No real change in our forecast, all chances of rain have been removed. But they did drop Friday's high down to 99° instead of the triple digits for the rest of the 10 day forecast. The PM thunderstorms predicted for yesterday, didn't happen. There was some thunder but no rain.

I did manage to do some mowing after church yesterday, but I am running out of places where the grass is still growing.
Not sure yet of today's agenda other than a visit to the pool and the train shed.

Yesterday's visit to the train shed was short, as is usual for a Sunday. I just cleaned some more structures.

Todd - Stay safe amidst all of those fires.
Troy - So what differentiates a Midwestern Stromboli from any other?

Carlos Santana is 79 today.

Everybody have a great Monday if you can.

Good morning folks, 85 here, feels like 95, gonna hit 98 and sunny. Tomorrow is predicted to be 101! They have been loww everyday this last week, so we will see what happens.
I did get out early and got the stone out of the driveway and back into it's place, filled the hummingbird feeder so the little folks will have some fresh feed. Plan for the rest of the day is to hang out in the AC.
Marco, congrats to good score and fun game.
Todd, take care in the mess you are surrounded with.
The rest of you have a great day.

Good morning, Everybody!

It is nice to smell summer leaves again instead of last week’s wildfire barbecue.

My Birds, the Baltimore Orioles, are on a roll, boasting the second-longest active winning streak in MLB with seven straight victories. While the Red Sox lead the pack with an impressive 13-game streak. That sets up a showdown in Boston tonight! If all goes well, my Birds will best the Red Sox and claim the longest winning streak in MLB. Go O's!

Play Ball!

Troy - So what differentiates a Midwestern Stromboli from any other?
According to the AI overlords, here's the official version:

Stromboli is an Italian-American dish consisting of pizza or bread dough rolled into a log shape and filled with Italian cold cuts (such as salami, pepperoni, or ham) and cheese (typically mozzarella or provolone). Originating in Philadelphia in the mid-20th century, it is baked until golden and sliced into pinwheel portions, often served with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Key characteristics include:

  • Shape: Distinct from a calzone's half-moon fold, stromboli is rolled into a cylinder.
  • Fillings: Traditionally uses cured meats and mozzarella/provolone, whereas calzones typically include ricotta and are folded.
  • Sauce: Tomato sauce is sometimes included inside the roll, but it is not required and the dish is commonly dipped.
  • Origin: Named after the volcanic island of Stromboli, via the 1950 film, but invented by Italian-Americans in the US.

However: The pizza joints I worked at here in Indiana called the following a Stromboli:

1. Hoagie bun, sliced lengthwise, spread open-faced.
2. Layer on some combo of the following pizza toppings:
- tomato sauce (pizza sauce)
- Sausage of one variety or more
- ham
- ground beef (some do some don't)
- onions
- maybe peppers or fungus
3. Top it with mozzerella

Bake in oven until cheese melts.

Back in the day, especially around Southeast Baltimore; Highlandtown, Dundalk, Essex, Middle River, and Rosedale — a stromboli was called an “inside‑out pizza.” We didn’t need fancy names; just order an inside‑out pizza. It was pizza on the inside, dough on the outside, and everybody knew exactly what you meant. They’d even tuck whatever toppings you liked right inside the fold.

Imagine Southeast Baltimore Micks and Pollocks (my people, the best people I ever knew!) using Italian names, ain’t gonna happen Hon.

So similar to a Calzone, or is that different?

OK, here a Stromboli is just a Calzone with no veggies inside, just meats, sauce and cheese. It's in my rotation a couple of times a year when we go to our favorite Italian place in town.

Good morning. Been busy. Finally got the computer up and running again. My son has asked why I haven't tried to build or buy a new one being that they're not as expensive as they used to be. I told him that it was because i'm old and have been around dachshunds so long that I have inherited being stubborn.

As Todd mentioned, fires are all around us. Had some thunderstorms roll through a few days ago that is most likely the cause of a lot of them, unfortunately not much rain came with the storms. I have been watching the radar, and almost all of the moisture has been passing to the north in Canada.

Went down to Helena for visit my son and tried to contact someone with the model railroad club there to try to sell some of my freight cars and locomotives but was unable to reach anyone. Probably didn't try hard enough because I got to playing with the grandkids and was going to put brakes on my car, but they didn't have the parts I needed and I was going to be gone before they could get them. Guess I'll have to pay a shop to do the work here in town.

I enjoyed the Italian cooking when I was on my last ship, home ported in Gaeta, Italy. Traveled around the country and had visited different parts of the country and found that many areas had their own twist on the same dish. The road trip from Minich back to Gaeta was a fantastic trip. took 4 days as I visited many of the sights and restaurants on the way.

Here are a few photos of the progress I've made on the HO scale diorama.

1000003703.jpg

I condensed Tschache Oil on the left to gain some real estate for the rest of the "town". Got the road surface, a "garage sale" sign painted on the back side to resemble a worn asphalt road. I not only found one pin vise, but a total of three. Good thing I didn't pay what they wanted at the hardware store.

1000003717.jpg

With the mirror, the Oil company does look larger. I will have to come up with a concrete base to put under the gas pumps and the building.
1000003719.jpg

I completed the Cafe on the right and found out that it sure is taking longer than it used to putting these kits together. The old eyeballs ain't what they used to be. These buildings will probably be set where they are now sitting. The Post Office on the left is a wood building that has got to be around 35 years old, one of the first I built for the old layout.
1000003720.jpg

The mirror sure gives the scene depth. The space to the right of the cafe will be covered with trees. A park or something.
1000003722.jpg

These homes are what I have been working on lately. Again, harder than I expected. Even used a few colorful words in the process.
1000003721.jpg

Again, the mirror sure helps make the scene look larger. I should have a package in the mail today from Modeltrainsnstuff with some ballast. I can get the tracks done and then work on the parking area and ground cover. I got some ground foam and N scale ballast from PINKFLOYD that I can use for that. Here's the old Post Office on the old layout.

Not in any hurry at all. Even though it is warm (hot) out, trying to get out early and let the dogs and myself get some exercise. We all need it.
