I just had yet another jarring, unpleasant surprise from AI. This one in my Kindle. I was reading a book when suddenly and without me asking for it, something called recap popped up in full screen, and in a few paragraphs told me all about the book—including how it ends.
Gee, thanks. Now I don’t need to waste a lot of time reading something because I want to, because AI just spoiled it for me.

Is that an Amazon pop-up, or is something nefarious going on in your Kindle?
Something that Amazon (who owns Kindle) added to the kindles, and the kindle app.

It's NOT supposed to give away the ending. That happened early, and Amazon was supposed to have fixed it.

I asked the Brave AI how to disable it:

You cannot turn off the AI summation or "Ask this Book" feature in the Kindle app. According to Amazon, the feature is always on to ensure a consistent reading experience, and there is no option for readers, authors, or publishers to disable or opt out of it.

  • The feature is integrated directly into the reading interface and cannot be toggled off via settings.
  • If you wish to avoid the AI assistance, your only option is to delete the Kindle app entirely.
  • Amazon has confirmed that once the feature is available for a title, it remains permanently active and non-disableable.

In other words, resistance is futile you will be assimilated!!!

Read it anyway! Ai is not always accurate…

The only thing I can think to do, since AI now insists on spoiling the ending of a book in spite of what Amazon says, is to simply not waste any money buying a book that will have the ending spoiled 5 seconds after I open the book.

My reply after your post a couple above your last, was going to be "I guess that's going to cut down on a lot of book sales", but I wanted to see where this thread was going first.

Great job Amazon. Idiots.

I'm not sure if it was on this forum or another that I'm on, but we shared our "workshops" or "workbenches".

I finished remodeling the hobby workshop "KG Miniature Workshop" and I have two videos to share. Still have some shelving to put up for reference books and dioramas but the hobby shop is back in business sorta speak.

First is before remodel the second is after remodel.

As promised to Willie:

Cheesy Bread from Giordanos:

And the Parmesan Crust pizza

we took advantage of the $25 special the local TV station was hosting. Up to $50 of food, for $25 when you pre-purchase the certificate. We ordered an extra cheesy bread to bring home, just to get us up to $46 in food. Still paid tax and tip, so about $35 for what would have been about $60-65 with tax and tip.

Another reason not to get it...
The good news is that the Kobo App and devices are much more cautious on rolling out their AI enhancements. I've got four or five apps on my iPad. Kobo is one of the better ones. But they don't have all of the credits and discounts that you get from Amazon for telling them to not deliver next day, and shift your Prime order to the weekly day. I usually get a $1.00 credit for doing that, and eventually I'll get a history e-book half off due to my credits.

For all of you Sail aficionados here:

HMS Surprise remains open to visitors through July 31, 2027. The vessel is scheduled to permanently close to visitors on August 1, 2027.

Since 2004, HMS Surprise—the renowned 18th-century replica frigate—has been an iconic part of the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s historic fleet. Originally launched as HMS Rose, the vessel served for decades as a training vessel before being transformed into HMS Surprise for the Academy Award-winning film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. She later appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, further cementing her place in maritime and cinematic history.

For more than two decades, the Museum has invested substantial resources in preserving, restoring, and maintaining HMS Surprise as an important component of its collection. During that time, the ship has inspired countless visitors, students, volunteers, and supporters, helping bring the stories of seafaring history to life.

Following an extensive professional assessment conducted by a certified marine surveyor, and after careful deliberation by the Museum’s Board of Directors and leadership team, the Museum has concluded that retaining HMS Surprise in its fleet is no longer financially viable. The significant investment required to restore the vessel to the standard deserved by visitors, crew, and community would substantially impact the Museum’s ability to care for the remainder of its collection and fulfill its broader educational mission. As a result, HMS Surprise will permanently close to visitors on August 1, 2027.

This decision is final and the Museum will not pursue a fundraising campaign to reverse it.

While this marks the end of an important chapter, the Museum is committed to honoring and celebrating the ship’s remarkable legacy over the coming year. Staff are actively exploring options for HMS Surprise‘s future, including potential opportunities within the entertainment industry and other possible paths forward.

The Museum will share additional updates as they become available and extend its sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported and cherished HMS Surprise throughout her remarkable journey.

They give you credit for that? Then why pay for prime in the first place? But, I quit prime a long time ago anyway since they don't want to deliver to me, even though they say that the item is fulfilled by amazon and they deliver other fulfilled by amazon stuff.
They're trying to cut down on driver trips. Consolidate three or four orders to just one.
