I built part of my old layout with OSB, hated it. Never again. Besides a full sheet is heavier than a dead priest.

Particle board is the junk my computer table is made of, if it gets wet it swells. Amazing it even stands after 10 years.

Current layout is all dimensional lumber and spline. Easy peasy.
Probably thinking of MDF. OSB is not particularly tough. Saw easily and nails easily.

Morning all,

89° going for 97° in a while. Feels like today a bit cooler at 103°.

Got to 106° yesterday.

Marlin: Happy Belated Anniversary. We celebrated our 43rd in May.

Been busy this morning, but leaving early to and tomorrow as I have to work Saturday for server maintenance. We'll be posting for a new IT Tech position in December to hire a 5th person for the IT department. Too bad as we could use the person now.

With both garage doors open, its about as close as you can get! ;)
I'm actually jealous. 🤪 Your idea is a great!

I haven't done any grilling since we stopped having our big 4th of July parties. My wife is good with the propane grill and has done some grilling, but I prefer charcoal. She can handle the charcoal grill as well, but the propane grill is quicker. Press the button, the burners light and it is ready to go.

At this point in my life, I struggle with the heat. I’m going to try some cool-weather grilling, and later, cold-weather grilling. I love hot dogs cooked with indirect heat on a charcoal grill, and I also make some really good bone-in split chicken breasts. I can’t even remember the last time I had either of them.

I’ve been on the lookout for a good-looking pork shoulder, but the tricky part has been finding one at a decent price! I’m going to use my charcoal smoker to cook it, then pull the meat and make barbecue. I haven’t had that since our last Fourth of July party!

The smoked turkey was a huge hit at our last party. I considered smoking one for Thanksgiving, but I can’t resist the aroma of a turkey roasting in the oven while I watch football. Maybe I'm just being cheap, but I prefer to avoid using the oven during the summer. I’d love to smoke a turkey once the weather cools, but I didn’t grab any extras on sale last Thanksgiving. I’ll make sure to pick up one or two this year!

I thought it would be fun to fire up the grill on Sundays during the NFL season..

I need to start adding things i enjoy back into my life, surviving is great, but it is not everything.

Man does not live on Baseball alone. :D

How about a scrawny, dead priest?

OSB can be a real bitch to work with, but it’s stronger than Friar Tuck after a few pints.
OSB is not particularly tough.
Not from my experience! I used OSB on my last layout. It is not as heavy as MDF, but it is harder, making nailing difficult and screws are no fun either.

If I wasn't so cheap I would have scrapped the OSB, but I am cheap. And I hate to throw anything away, waste not want not.

My uses of OSB with electric drill screwdriver and a circular saw were that it was not that hard to work with. It is harder to work with than straight plywood as it has more glue in it. But it wasn't particularly difficult.

Framers use t all the time for house sheathing and for roof and floors. But they have pneumatic (or battery driven) nail guns so probably they don't care.

You did well!

Once I gained some experience, it became easier to handle.

The first time, it felt like going twelve rounds with a splintery, flaky, heavyweight champion of stubborn wood. But after some cutting, drilling, and some colorful language, I figured out its quirks, it went from being my arch-nemesis to just another material.
It's hard to get track nails into OSB consistently.
For me to say that would be an understatement. I abandoned any thought of using nails with it. To use screws, I had to carefully predrill holes. If not done carefully OSB will splinter, flake, or leave rough edges.

I can't believe that you actually posted that!;)
I can't believe it either! 🤪

But I do have my trains, and I am serious about adding other things I enjoy back into my life.

Speaking of baseball, I need to correct myself. I previously said the Orioles had the worst record in MLB for 1-run games, but I was wrong; the Mets are actually even worse than my Birds. Definitely not the kind of company a team hopes to keep.

I did an interesting thing last night. I put in a BUY for 5 shares of SpaceX at $75 per on a GTC (good till closed) order. It's a limit at $75 and will stay outstanding until fulfilled, manually closed, or it expired in January 2027. This is part of the wife's self directed 401k piece (open brokerage account). Her whole 401k is not self directed. 50% of new money going in is into the 401K's funds and 50% is into the self directed brokerage account piece of the 401k. I sometimes will put in small positions that if they go bad won't greatly affect anything and if they do well it's not a huge deal either. Mainly for fun as fringe exposure.

With SpaceX falling continually since it's high of $225 shortly after the IPO, and with it's first quarterly earnings report next week and also 2 days later the lockout of employee shares ending, it will be very volatile and could trend down. Morningstar I think it is says the base intrinsic value is about $60. So it could well drop down to $75. If it doesn't, that's OK too. (currently around $115)

I wish I had money in my options trading brokerage account (with the house issues and stuff thats basically drained out at the moment). I'd do a few contracts of an Iron Condor on SPCX with mid August close. Bound to make some money with a wide Iron Condor (a spread 25% below and a spread 25% above current value)... Normally I don't DIY options any more -- just follow the program I'm on -- but I'd be tempted on this one due to its circumstances and current volatility allowing a wide spread and current huge premiums on sold options.

Well, howdy there internet peeps. And those lugging deceased clergy around.

It's troy again.

Nothing new to report here. Well not much.

I got a new watch band in for my Apple Watch yesterday. It was the only thing in the package - one of Amazon's fibrous paper packing envelopes that have replaced the bubble wrap envelopes... the delivery driver came into the patio fence, as the instructions indicate. But he opened the storm door and left it in-between the doors.

That scared the willies out of the wife who sits where she can see and hear the doors. Fortunately, the ring camera alerted me and I was upstairs while she was trying to peer out the window and see who was coming in.

I also got in a new "Tool Head Board" for the Bambu P1P printer. It definitely weighs less than a fricasseed Friar. I think. I've never carried one. Friar, that is.

Its the board in the print head assembly that all the various fans and heaters are plugged into. My "parts cooling fan" isn't activating, so this was the next logical fix after trying to swap out the aforementioned fan.

Steaks on the grill tonight. I'll let you know how they were.

It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to draw the short straw.

With generosity so boundless, it wouldn’t be surprising if you were secretly campaigning to take over Santa Claus’s sleigh. ;) And that house on my street is still on the market.

@Bruette and other Baseball fans, when this year started I said I would be happy if my Cardinals would play .500 ball this year. Well, they are challenging me as they have now dropped to .500, losing to the Cubs even last night. At least my White Sox and the Texas Rangers are playing well.

No worries

No worries, Deacon, with 56 games left to play anything can happen.

I’m curious to find out who the Cardinals will pick as tonight’s starting pitcher. Tonight's Cubs' starter, veteran Colin Rea hasn’t exactly been lights-out this season. The Cardinals' hitters can and usually do punish mistakes. Most importantly they often work the count and force mistakes.
I love how you follow so many games on the radio. There’s something special about baseball on the radio. It really shows you’re a true fan.

A few weeks ago, I posted about finding several vehicle kits I needed to assemble. I finally finished these kits, an even dozen.
56 ford 6.jpg

i was asked to show how I assemble a metal kit. I have made a couple pictures of the orange '56 Ford and camper in this picture and posted it in Vehicles and misc. models. I do some things a little different. Maybe not better, but differently.

And finally.....I went into the shop to preload the first SBR and saw a new pile of LE trade-ins. 100+ S&W M&P15's. As they sell they will just replenish the rack.....$450 each. Heck, the sling alone costs $75 new. They've seen more use taken in and out of the patrol vehicle than at the range.
