I forgot. I have been looking for drawings of the 1910 NP Ellensburg Depot. Have a spot for a passenger terminal and ran across the real thing a few years ago while fanning in Ellensburg. Thing is huge ~40' x 120'. Condensing/compressing would be the order of the day. Anyway, low and behold said drawings, history and other tidbits showed up in my mail box yesterday inside the NPRHS quarterly; magic I guess. Station design was also used in Yakima, and Toppenish. The Sandpoint ID ( Amtrak ) station kinda looks somewhat like that design, just a cut down simplified version.

Is there a local historical society that may help?

For a long time I have wanted a replica of the Western Maryland station in Westminster MD which was razed in 1969, The Western Maryland Railway Historical society was able to get me a copy of the blueprints. Now I just have to build it,,,,,,,,,,someday.

FWIW, the University of Colorado Buffaloes mascot has traditionally been known as "Ralphie" for years (the original, and all subsequent replacements). Before every home football game, Ralphie takes a 3/4 lap around Folsom Field--out of the gate, length of the field, around the south endzone, back up the field and into an enclosed trailer.* Takes five or six handlers to keep him (or her) from building up a real head of steam...aka "the red mist," as the motor-racing term goes.

*[length of the lap occasionally abbreviated]

Google Ralphie the Buffalo and find any number of images and videos.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 70°, a bit cool for a July morning. Forecast is constantly changing but it should remain below 90° for a few more days. Maybe rain tomorrow when we go on the grocery trek.

Today is a day of joyful remembrance. Eleven years ago today, I drove out of the parking lot at work for the very last time. I have never looked back!

Yesterday, it stayed wet from rain/dew until mid-afternoon, so I didn't get anything done outside. Somewhat rare but the gods decided that I needed a break. There are still some remote parts of the yard that need mowing, so maybe I'll do some of them today. Garden is done for now, all I can do is keep the Tomato plants alive until they start to bear again in the fall.

I did spend extra time out in the train shed yesterday. I finished detailing and installing the fence between the business row parking area and the main line. Some minor adjustments still need to be made.

Still need to tie the fence section ends together and vacuum debris.

I also finished up some clean up work around the TOFC yard, more on that later.

Mike -

A boyfriend might keep her occupied instead. But that brings a different form of anxiety!
Terry - Just another reason that I refused to get or use a cell phone while I was working.
Michael - I didn't originally get the meaning behind that Margaret Thatcher meme that you posted yesterday. Had to think about it for a while.
Chet - Module is really taking shape. Looks real good.
Alan - I am also a firm believer in populating my layout. I believe that my count is well over 1300 right now, mostly Preiser figures hand-painted by me.
Kevin - Nothing going in to the Houlihan's yet. It's complicated because the hotel has a sub-contract to use the kitchen for something. The closing will probably increase the traffic over at the nearby Portillo's.

Lot's of musical birthdays again today. Singer Linda Rondstat is 80, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani is 70 and bassist Andy Pyles of the Kinks and Savoy Brown is also 80.

Everybody have a wonderful Wednesday.
Congrats for the 11 years after the grind ended. It will be 12 years for me in September. Agree I do not miss it

Wow, realized I left my job 9 years ago. Worked with some good folks I still keep in touch with, but the job, I do NOT miss that at all.
Anyway, it's 79 here heading for 92 today and humid. Church tonight and tomorrow is Battletech day, hope I have a couple more folks show up.
USPS said a package of decals was delivered yesterday, but I didn't find them in the mailbox. So need to walk out and recheck the box. Hope they are in there and dry since we had a long heavy storm last night.
@Bruette I loved the Derby, I admit I thought Walker was gonna lose and it was great. What a great young player.

I have no problem with participation trophies. For some kids that is an achievement. Any player that gave me his/her best effort deserved an award. I didn't make it easy, but i never had a player who didn't put forth an effort. I tried to make if fun for everyone. Even if we had to play kickball to learn the basics of the game. How can you love something you don't understand?

I always avoided the highest levels of youth baseball. I enjoyed teaching the kids, especially the ones who didn't have great skills or one with developmental differences.

One season they made me feel guilty for not coaching the travel teams. I gave in and became a hitting instructor. I loved the kids but to be honest i didn't like the other coaches. They were too much about personal accolades and winning trophies. Youth sports are about teaching the game. I was not popular among the other coaches, no matter how good my hitters were. I was fond of reminding the other coaches "You do know neither the Yankees nor the Orioles or any teams are here looking for their next coach."

I was soon back to my in-house "regular" players.

I ended up being the coach that got all the kids with developmental differences. Not because i had any training or even understood their conditions. I was simply the coach that would not turn down any kid. I think they wanted me to quit. It turned out those kids were the most fun to coach. They challenged me, not the other way around. The key was to come prepared, no down time between activities. If i needed time to set up the next drill I had them run the bases, they loved running the bases.

So, when you think of participation trophies, keep the kids with little or no skills in mind.

Not that anyone here would, but NEVER order any A.C.M.E. locomotive made in Italy. There is absolutely ZERO customer support. They will not even aknowledge an email to say 'no'.

It is so bad in Europe that dealers have dropped their entire line from their inventory and will not carry their products. It's really too bad too. They are some of the best detailed scale models I've ever seen. I have a Br.120 from them that developed problems after the first year and tried to get parts for it. Nope.

But when they do run, stay out of the openings of any tunnel nearby!

Afternoon All! 92 in the Brew City today, inching up a little further to 94 later this afternoon. Been up since around 4:30. One of those days. They happen now and then. I did the last of the wire grabs and railings on the to do list today. Two express cars, former troop sleepers, and one express reefer All done with those now. This plus the two sleepers done makes five cars. I’m all drilled out! Later after lunch I’ll decal the F-7’s. That will finish up all of the current projects.
