I was imagining the disk packs for the washing machines attached to the PDP11/73 (I think) my dad used to admin... Might have been an 11/34.
Probably not an 11/34. 11/34 was a smaller rock mount and probably didn't support the big floor model drives. 11/73 would have though I think. I'd have to go back and look at the busses on them. We had an 11/34 in my HS and I later worked at DEC, starting in a summer job doing backups at night. While we mainly put tapes on we also had to use the disk packs with the lids that screwed down when doing full backups of certain machines. Mostly VAX computers but there was an RSX-11 lab and machines we also backed up. Though again to tape.

I bought an imperial coach but it comes with a BS coupler that is incompatible with anything I have. It was made specifically to be added to a E655 Nagomi train. In fact, it has upgrade parts for that train to add the flags to the front. Well, that train is not on my want list and in my search, I did find out that the EF58 did wear the flags at one time. I still don't have a solution for the coupler, but in the meantime...

I'm pretty sure it was a 73, but that's right at the start of my memory. After that he ran a VAX 11/750, which was the first machine I ever wrote a program for, and is the first one I remember truly clearly.. :)

His career went Singer System 10 -> PDP11 -> VAX of varying models, culminating in a cluster of mostly 6000's IIRC. I don't think he ever worked with the 9000's or the later Alpha-based models, though I might be wrong about that. The majority of his career was with DEC machines, though, long before the first acquisition.

We had an Orange Wall and part of a Gray Wall in the garage. I kinda wish we still had them just for nostalgia's sake...

Good times...

I have a few binders left. Not with DEC documentation any longer but I’ve reused them for a few things.

Most have been thrown out over time. :(.

Our family’s first computers at home were an Atari 400 (w 3rd party keyboard and 48k upgrade ) and a PDT11-150. That was a “desktop” with LSI-11 ( single chip PDP-11) CPU with 2x 8” floppies, console port, and some serial ports. No accessible bus and no hard drive. It supported RT-11. They didn’t sell well so they sold them to employees with an LA-36 floor mount printer console and a VT62 terminal. (Specialized VT52 with custom characters and keyboard). I used it for all sorts of classic games*, programming, and I had a 6502 cross compiler that could output Atari compatible machine binary code. We eventually learned that while the company had special closeout employee pricing on the computer, they didn’t have special employee pricing on servicing it if it failed. So my dad sold it to someone at work who had missed the sale and wanted one. We then invested it into an Atari 800 with floppy and a dot matrix printer.

The EF58 has knuckles. The coach came with the strange one that is kinematic. I want to put knuckles on to make the coach universally available to be pulled behind my Amtrak P42 or C11 haha.

It was brought to my attention on the other forum of this 28-235 replacement kit. RG Rokko has it on the export site, so I need to email him.

Not sure if it will fit or not though.

Tell Masahara-San what you’re trying to do. He’ll make sure you get the right parts.
Train parts, auto parts or parts for industrial machines; a good parts man is worth his weight in gold!

Which reminds me; I'll tip anyone, not just restaurant staff. Retail store staff, tire men, mechanics, anyone who gives me good service. I never had anyone refuse a tip when I reached out to shake their hand with a $5, $10, $20 or more in my palm as I said thank you. The main reason I carry cash is to give it away. All purchases are made with a card that will pay me cash back. My tip for using their card.

As the lady who raised me told me "If you can't afford the tip; don't take the cab"

If it's N scale, try a MT 2004. It should fit on the pin for the Kato coupler.

Oh man, didn't even consider microtrains. I had some for an old F7 and gave it a try. The box is a bit too thick. Are they all the same thickness? My guess would be so. Thanks!

The Kato knuckles are also too thick.

They are not all the same thickness. The newer 1015 box is slightly thinner. You can use a 2004 coupler in a 1015 box.

I scoured the microtrains site and the thinnest I could find is 2.43mm, derived from the dimensions provided of height above rails. They did not provide that for the 1015 box unfortunately. I measured my coupler box and it is 2mm. I'm thinking not enough room.

Sent email to Tokonami-san. Hope the result will be favorable.

If all else fails, I can always just glue an MT box to the bottom and call it a day.

The shim included with the 1015 is .014".
I'm not sure if that will help you at all, though if you wanted to do some mental math, you could deduct that amount from the total thickness to get the thickness without the shim.

Good morning all!

Early morning thunderstorms moved through the area. According to the radar they are about out of here. Dog has been up and a mess
since 3:30am.

Currently a very humid 74F heading up to a high of around 90F. Heat advisories are still in effect for today. looks like much more pleasant
temperatures coming Wednesday. I do have some weeding in the front and side yards to get done, but it will wait till later in the week.
Another afternoon in the pool is in order.

Should be a relatively light household chore day. Grocery shopping, laundry, mowing were all done this weekend.

Not much on the train front. I have an area of mountains I'm not really happy with how they turned out and I'm contemplating tearing some
out or trying to fix what I already have there.

Have a safe day everyone!
