Yeah... I forgot until a couple of days ago that today is my birthday...

Good afternoon, all! We hit 100 degrees yesterday and predicted to do it again today. No idea what the heat index is. Long range forecast has a tropical front due on Fri./Sat.
By coincidence, I purchased an iPad Monday. I have been a MS fan for as long as I can remember. I went from a Commador-64 to a Microsoft driven computer. My Asus T-100 tablet finally reached it's end of life. It had been updated from Win-7 to Win 10 but Win 11 was out of reach. I like having something light and handy for quick look ups or entertainment while waiting. I will say there is a bit of a learning curve in switching from MS to IOS.

Louis - You must have a large grill. (I still get a kick out of seeing my pretty little wife cooking on the grill.)

Insomnville - Sorry for your loss, our condolences. Also, a belated Happy Birthday.

Kusojiji - Australian Toaster Biscuits, miss them. They said they couldn't produce them at scale due to costs, then folks started going healthy and their carb heavy biscuits weren't selling and of course there was competition from English muffin and bagel makers.

Bread - I'm not sure if it is a national selling brand, but Nature's Own makes a sugar free whole wheat bread that is quite good. Also there is a brand of English muffin called Bays which a very tasty and have a slightly softer texture to them.

Finished doing the firearm inspection of cabinet #4.

A couple of real mint condition standouts of the 45 in this cabinet.
  • Colt 1911 US marked from 1914
  • Colt 1911A1 Commercial .38 Super from 1923
  • S&W .44 Hand Ejector 1st Model New Century .44 special 5" barrel from 1908
  • Marlin 1893 Special Order rifle w/24" half octagon barrel, takedown, checkered straight stocks, Lyman tang sight, 38-55
We'll see if they take the shops offer.

That’s the question. Everyone “knows what it’s worth” and wants a shop to pay retail.

I had a firearm I sold to a dealer. I could have gotten over 1/3 more if I’d sold direct to a customer. This required tax stamps and so the time and effort to sell it direct to a customer wasn’t worth it to me despite the potentially ton more money I could have gotten. Instead of up to a year to sell (time to find a customer — could have taken me months and a ton of effort to get a customer , and go through the tax stamp paper work etc) vs getting paid 1/2 now and 1/2 in 4-8 weeks was worth it to me.

People need to realize that they’re offloading the need to find and sell direct and that’s why they get offered what they do. Hopefully this guy gets it.

Not sure what rock I was living under but not aware that I ever listened to Ozzie...

Also do not know what BBW is ...

In the 80's (until 1993) I lived by Warroad Minnesota, which is almost Canada, all we had was Canadian music on the radio and Hockey on my 1 channel.

I did finish painting 7 people and installed 3 switch stands, as well as associated ballasting, been raining since 11 am.

Creamed peas over noodles and garden beets for supper. I am cooking again.

Bread, for an ultra healthy accompaniment, there are chapitis. Two ingredients, warm water and whole wheat flour.

Knead dough 10 minutes and let stand for an hour. Roll into 1" balls, then flatted with a pin. Heat in cast iron until they puff up like a balloon. May have to hold over a flame for 10 seconds. Serve with chutney. Make fresh every meal.

Eaten by Yogi's. The real ones are not overweight and avoid crowds and fame.

Happy birthday Insomniville, BTW, what is your first name?

Mac: Think I recognize that car lot with Mustang, Valiant and TBird +others. That was near the SR56 cutoff to Libby/Troy, right? Anyway, if so, Mark and I stopped in to see if anything was for sale. Nope, notta, no way. Cars have been there for more than 5 years AFIK.

Next time through, follow the xMRL from Paradise ( SR200 ) to St Regis ( I90 ) or visa-versa on SR135 as there are a ton of places to get great pix, bridges included.

That car lot was actually on Route 200, not sure of the town name. Yeah a lot of these guys act as if you're about to take their wife if you ask about a car.

Thanks to you and everyone else for the birthday wishes!

To answer your question, I'm just another random Steve.

Getting ready to leave the house for the birthday dinner at the sister's place, but I had a very productive morning. Turns out that the problem with the camera was that the hole the lens was sticking through was too small, and was binding up so it couldn't move.

Oops.

Re-printed the mount with a larger hole, tinkered with the settings a bit, and lo and behold, I have a [soon to be future] train room cam:

trainroom-start.jpg

I'll probably write it up for my blog later since there's a bit more to the story with this thing. In the mean time, I can now easily document my progress, starting with the next step: clean out the room and prepare it for trains!

Hungry now. L8r. =)
