Good Morning All. Clear and a very warm 77° heading for the upper 90's later on. Reached just 97° yesterday. Humidity is low so it doesn't feel as bad as the thermometer shows. I still avoid working outdoors at anything above 93°.
The new flat screen TV arrived yesterday around 4:15, well within the 3-7 window we were given. It's a LG 65" model to replace the old 60" model. SIL and grandson had arrived at 3 and began removing the old one and making a pile of disused cables left from previous TV and sound system installs that were never removed. Out of sight; out of mind! Things went south for a while getting the mounting bracket on the wall. Much to my surprise, it came with drywall mounting screws. Four holes made,, but apparently two of them were too close to the stud. So one anchor was ruined there and another successfully installed was unusable since it was now in the wrong place. Moved everything over a half inch to mount one side directly into the stud and remade the other holes over. There were 8 screws/anchors provided so now I have 2-stud mounted screws, 2-spoiled anchors in the wall, 4-correctly anchored screws and 4-extra holes in the wall, 2 of which have anchors in them that couldn't be removed without making bigger holes. Phew! At least it's now done and the TV covers all of the holes. But! There was no time left to set it up or show us how to do it because my daughters, the other SIL and other two grandkids were all waiting at the Italian restaurant for us! But we do know that it turns on!
All of that activity left no time for me to take a lesson from my SIL on the best setup on my new tablet, so I'll wing that one. I had already figured some stuff out while exploring it earlier. A sad discovery is that the speakers on it absolutely suck. I had loaded some mp3's on it just to test, and horrible sounds. However I found some kind of Bluetooth speaker in our electronic stuff that appears to work and sounds better. Nothing like those Bose speakers of my youth though. Of course the younger folks teased me for still using mp3's, but I have over 80,000 of them. They pointed out that everyone else streams these days, something that I already knew. I can use Amazon Music that's part of our Prime membership, but it is limited.
I did some more mowing early yesterday but called it quits when the wind died down. Spent the early afternoon on wifey chores.
I did not go out to the train shed at all yesterday as I was part of the TV install crew in a remote way, removing packing materials, fetching the tape measure etc.
Tom O -
The do gooders said it wasn’t fair to the calves that they were sacrificed for our meals at such a tender age!
I wonder how they feel about eggs???
Troy - The black spots on the bottom of the Tomatoes is called Blossom end rot and is caused by a calcium deficiency as
Chad pointed out. But it is not usually a Calcium deficiency in the soil, rather it is usually caused by overwatering the plants which interferes with their ability to absorb it. Adding supplements to the soil doesn't usually do any good.
Chad - The specs on your windows look good, although a bit of overkill, so I would just recommend full solar screens or the blinds or drapes that you already posted.
Insomniville
Oh, @santafewillie: you referenced "tomato pie" a while back. Is that just a euphemism for Pizza, or is it something else entirely? Just curious. =)
It's different, but not much. She takes pie crust and dribbles a bit of Olive Oil on it, then adds a layer of thinly sliced Tomatoes. It is then topped off with freshly grated Parmesan and Cheddar Cheese and chopped fresh Basil and baked for a bit. She makes it in the air fryer in the summer and the oven in the winter.
Louis - Absolutely amazing analysis of that baseball play. I just thought that the outfielder made a good throw.
Everybody have a super-duper Sunday.
