Good morning, Everybody!

Good morning all. The storm has died down. Blue sky greets the day.

A misty morning Fort William, Scotland. Artania at anchor.

A time long gone. North British Railway Class D30 near Chipchase Castle heading north to Edinburgh.
The scene is a mile away from our house. The track no longer there. The trackbed overgrown. Memories remain.

Good morning. It's mostly clear and 78.
Today I get to do battle again with the state I moved from. They are still trying to get me to pay them money for something--anything, it seems. First. they wanted me to pay a fine for not keeping insurance on a license plate. That's mostly straightened out now, but now they want a full copy of the buyer's order for the car I purchased here in Florida, so they can properly assess sales and property tax on it. I'm sure you know where that conversation is going to go.

Morning all,

Granddaughter feeling a little better yesterday evening. She slept most of yesterday. She probably caught something at GS camp. She sold enough cookies that her camp was free.

Storms overnight stayed well to our west, which means the rain did as well.

Currently 73 muggy degrees and clear. AQI of 19 this morning.

Work beckons...

Good morning from the location known as “ formerly smoke hazed” So. Central WIsconsin. The aIr has cleared and the AQ # today is 69, a truly great number both for air quality and … never mind! Problem right now is it’s only 60f degrees but should hit 75 around 3.

I am hosting the golf group I was supposed to join in Nova Scotia yesterday. 16 of the golfers were in Winnipeg last week playing and 8 of them went to the ER and 3 as of yesterday were still in the hospital. So Nova Scotia was postponed until August on Sunday morning. My brother asked if I could get us on a couple courses here in the Madison area, even the ones the group played when they were here in May. So, I spent a lot of time on the thing I hate most since retirement, my cell phone. When working I lived on that thing and use it rarely for calling since, heck I don’t even have voice mail.

Anyway we are all set for 3 days of golf, 13 guys showed last night with another one being picked up at the airport right now. My good friend is joining up and with me we have 16.

I will grab a diet Dr Pepper and start getting breakfast ready for 9AM. Breakfast will be here the next 4 mornings, lunch at the course and dinner is at the hotel they are staying at in downtown Madison. My friend is here to help make breakfast and 4 of the high school neighbor girls will setup, serve and clean up. I love when a last minute plan comes together.

enjoy your day
TomO

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those arguing with the government

It's Troy the asthma boy again

Tom O's evil plan to send the Canadian smoke East made my apple watch tell me it's a bad air day in NE Indiana. And I've got running to do today. Got to get groceries, and hit the hobby lobby. Looking for Xmas decor for some gaming needs.

Good morning!

Torrential rains overnight. It seems to have knocked down the smoke, and I can see the sky.

I've been thinking about that 'Blue Comet' Heavy Pacific that I purchased in BC. This one:

I'm entertaining the idea of changing the colors to something like these internet photos:

I don't believe it matters a hoot if they're not the same engine. Especially since no knowledgeable person will ever see my layout except on this very forum. Don't suppose it matters if what's written on it say's CN or Lisa's RR. I do know I don't seem to like the blue on a steam engine. Just dosen't seem natural.

Karl - Thanks for the info. I checked to see if there were similar slabsides available that worked for my ideas. At $61.00 +tax each, I believe I'll stick with my open hoppers. Just a month ago, I dropped more than a couple hundred on two 4-packs by Atheran.

Kriegslok - Well done with the wonderful photos you've been posting. Thankyou for helping to give the forum life!

Curt - I've felt the lack of motivation many times. No worries; a blast of inspiration will always rehabilitate the motivation. My greatest challenge is that I have too many other hobbies that seem capable of drawing me off point.

Terry - Every time you folks talk about the US tax system, I'm more glad I live up here in the cold bush. Fines on license plates!!! Private sale used vehicle tax!!! Wow! ( I don't intend this to be or get political; I'm only experiencing the 'Wow' syndrome).

I'm going to be working with my investment accounts this morning. Over the past year, I've made 26% on my personally controlled accounts, and lost 6.3% on my advisor handled account. I would have done better buying GIC's at 4% than trust a commission advisor.

Anyway, I'm going to make tracks. Have a wonderful day!!!

Like Willie has done in the past we have dumped the personal advisers and our investments with Terry watching them have been super since 2015. We occasionally though will sit down with an advisor just to see what they might suggest. Terry has a better handle on investment than I believe the folks we have sat down with and much much better then me.

Supposedly the battle is over, chalk one up for the good guys.
After a pretty much one-sided conversation, the issue with my previous state are resolved. I’m still going to check and make sure it is as they say before doing any celebrating.

Good Morning All. Clear and a cool 72°, although heading for a high of 105° today. Yesterday was nice with a high of only 89° and 0.3" of rain, but that was an anomaly. Maybe 107° tomorrow. The long range forecast calls for just double-digits for the weekend, before rising again by Wednesday next week. Cloud cover yesterday allowed the pool temperature to drop to a very reasonable 86°; this morning it's 84°.

The rain and wet conditions yesterday kept me inside catching up on indoor chores and canning some tomato sauce. Sadly I have had to toss about 40# of tomatoes that ripened past usability stage during my hospital visit. There's still plenty out there and ready inside to take their place. 40# would have yielded about 7 quarts of sauce.

Today is my "free" day to do stuff. Tomorrow is the pre-cataract measurement day at the ophthalmologist, at 7:30 in the morning. Wednesday is my semi-annual dermatologist visit early followed by my postponed (from last week) visit to my primary care doctor, where I will review last week's activities. Thursday of course, is weekly grocery trek day. My wife has taunted me for years about going on Thursday instead of Friday, but after going with me on Friday last week, it will be Thursdays forever.

A short visit out in the train shed yesterday was all structure cleaning. I am about 3/4 of the way done, two more sessions should do it.
The next structure in line is the scratch-built derelict barn, which I have to clean in place instead of moving it to the workbench.

Then we move into the business part of town itself with Vic's Barber Shop, a slightly modified structure from Walther's.

The modification is that I left out the recessed entrance and added my own Barber Shop sign.

Tom O - As I understand it, the insurance companies that are leaving Kalifornia are not dropping any current customers; just not taking on any new policies. My guess though is that if one misses a payment or tries to upgrade (like adding a room), they will be able to withdraw.
So the smoke is giving you a break to play golf. Good thing.
David - Interesting photo yesterday of the folks lining the cobblestone street; many with their cell phones in hand. No different than here in many American cities.
Guy - That "June Bug scream" probably is the same as the "snake in the house" scream heard here before.
Joe - Yes, those leftover dinners do have a tendency to bring strange bedfellows together. One day last week, we had leftover steamed carrots (from the garden), along with spaghetti and meatballs.
Terry - Good luck with the tax/fine situation. It seems that N. Carolina has more bureaucratic issues than even Kalifornia! If that's even possible.

Nothing special today unless you consider National Tattoo Day to be special. Like piercings, it's not for me, although I don't mind seeing some of the works of art, or their locations on some female members of society.
Everybody have a great day.

A good Mid-Morning to all youse guys!
Looks as if it is going to be a burner today. 99 is the forecast high with the record on this date in 2010 of 100. Just saying that a new record high may happen today?

Padres lose three games to the Phillis - bummed out!

the local website for the local weather here does not show the AQI?
I will have to look elsewhere.
Several brush fires burning within a 60 mile radius, but no smoke locally.
Between the Spousal Unit, daughter and two G-sons 8 and 10 - I have very little time to do little with!

Back from my errands... I did score with some early holiday decor for the gaming scene. Bought some Vallejo WHITE paint. I have a bottle of cheap craft white, but I like Vallejo's white better.

Apple watch was correct about the air quality. I have a dull ache in the lungs that tell me I'm going to need to hit the inhaler soon. My asthma doesn't wheeze. One doc called it "silent asthma"... so the first time it hit hard as an adult, I thought it was a heart attack. So I started popping aspirin... which is bad when you have asthma and made the symptoms worse... Fortunately, a trip to the ER got a decent diagnosis.

The bad news is that if I do have a heart attack at some point, I'll be puffing on my inhaler instead of getting immediate assistance.

Oh, and I noticed these additions to the wife's new garden out front. Right after my trip to Hobby Lobby. Does this count as an infestation? Should I be worried?

June Bug Scream: Something like that just happened here yesterday, except it involved a cat and a snake. Bob ( cat ) found a snake in the grass, brought it to the rear deck and was playing with it. It was about 8" long. He would roll on it, pick it up and spin it around of which the snake go in one direction or another when he lost his grip on it, roll on it more ... etc. Watched him for a bit, then went and did something else. Apparently, one of those directions happened to be right into one of the wife's slippers. I went out with her when she got up. You can see it coming right? She was concerned when she felt something in her slipper when she stuck foot in; so I watched. When she realize the thing was moving ... I almost fell off the deck cuz I was laughing so hard when the snake came out. Geesh, I had though the thing was dead with all the playing Bob was doing! Still giggle about it.

Later!

Willie and Todd. -To my knowledge, the 'June Bug Scream' cannot be imitated or resultant from any crawling creature other than the 2" horned Sawyer beetle caught in her hair. You two must be referring to the 'Sneaky Snake Screech'.

I am unfamiliar with those sounds, as the wife doesn't scream for bugs, however I do enjoy her imitation of Kung Fu theater when she walks into a spider web!
Hiii ya!!!

Afternoon All,

Started out hot and just keeps getting hotter. There are thunderstorms all around me but nothing overhead. Today I have been doing chores and errands. Tomorrow son and I have 2 signs to mount in the sub-division park area. I wanted to use a post hole digger (it's just 2 holes) but MOH insists on renting an auger.

Louis- Handsome tall ship.

Mac- Great CSX shot.

David- Nice photos.

TomO- Wasn't that how the movie Outbreak begin (except they were campers)?

Patrick-I'm glad your GD is feeling better.

Joe- Neat photo.

Guy- It's your RR. Do what you want.

Willie- Awesome looking shed.

Troy- It counts as one to me.

Todd- That's funny.

I hope everyone has a good night.
