Good evening gang!

The 4 Bowser hoppers are done! For the most part. I couldn’t get metal wheels today, the LHS is on vacation.
View attachment 171677
I finished the cars watching a Joe Cocker video of him performing in Düsseldorf. Great tunage!

Gonna work on the garden gate tomorrow.
What size wheels do u need? I have 36” Walthers Proto Steel wheels you can have

With everything going on I failed to post the Orioles wrap-ups.

The Birds roster is loaded with young players and there is still more to come!

Holliday, MLB's No. 1 prospect, off to strong start at Double-A

With the trade deadline looming I hope they resist the temptation to "rent" a star.

Good morning, Everybody!

There is nothing prototypical about this, but it is one of my favorites!

And I think it goes great with this.

What brand is the 2-10-2 ? I sure wish I had a layout that big to run mine on. Great coal haulers those decapods (5-coupled with trailing trucks).
The 2-10-2 wheel layout is reffered to as "Santa Fe", as it was on this railroad that it was first tried. 2-10-0s are generally reffered to as "Decapods", even though they have more than ten legs. British as far as i know do reffer to 0-10-0 as "Decapod". Howard Zane loves brass so most likely rebuilt brass import. Bachmann came up with 2-10-2 recently, but theirs are based on USRA design. This 4026 deffinitely looks like earlier Erie 2-10-2, that's what makes me think brass. Erie did purchase standard USRA designs, but that smoke box front, multi window cab is a giveaway as not USRA design. I'll search on some brass sites.

Goodness, lots of posts. No way I can keep up with all y'all!

I visited Stockholm as a teen in 1976 and saw Vasa then. She's been on display a long time!

No train work. We went to the Minnesota Scottish Fair yesterday. Pretty day here for it and was fun. Back home for Thai food and an old movie. Then woke at 0200 and never got back to sleep. Ugh - makes for a long day.

Good Morning All!

Gawd! I would love to have some high performance flying around here. That is one of the things I miss from those big metro areas. Was raised in Spo and the SAC base ( Fairchild ) that we would go visit sitting on the end of the runway when the '52s would practice touch and go. The world would shake. Gieger Field was still Army Air Corps but mostly prop jobs. Those things could rumble too. From then on it always seemed that some sort of air base was near or me on it. El Toro ( 3rd MaW ) 1st duty station, Hawaii for 2 years with Hickam, Wheeler, Barbers Point, the one West of Waikiki I don't remember the name of and Kaneohe air station ( 2nd MaW ). Got to the ends of each of those to watch too. Back then you could even sit on the end of Oahu International and watch the 747's ( and others ) come and go. Back in the States, had Paine Field almost next door from work with the new 737's messing around almost every day. Ok, so those were not high performance ... but still. Paine did have a high performance air show every year of which we would get on top of the building where we worked ( with lounge chairs ) and watched. You should have seen the B1B's trying to get into the air. Whidbey Island ( NaS ) always had a yearly show. When back in Everett, Wa - Mom and I got to ride on the Lincoln from there to Seattle's Elliot bay. Flight ops once we got to Elliot. F16's, F18's and various Navy stuff coming and going; actually for quite awhile. Have pix somewhere. I even almost got the sh.t scared out of me. I was out on the flight deck ( Ops were done ) and walked to the very front port side corner and was taking it all in. Welp, it was time for the 'battle turn' show. At 30 knots the Lincoln did a 180 degree turn. I am pretty sure that the deck was at 45 degrees and I had to look up quite a bit to see the other front corner. You should have seen me holding on to that tiny rope/chain corner post! I did look around and noticed not another soul was on the flight deck. We did get to see almost all of that boat either inside/outside - guess what I remember as the best part?

Those read like great memories. The best air show I saw was in the early 2000’s when a bunch of the guys went to Vegas for the NASCAR races. Very near Nellis and Friday practice and qualifying was nothing compared to the comings and goings there. Every plane imaginable to this guy that the Air Force publicly showed took off that day. They stayed low to the racetrack and the fighters hit the burners and went straight up. The B-52’s and tankers just lumbered along. Turns out there was a combined practice exercise going on up at the bombing ranges up at Area 51 and Tonapah per an airman we met at the Blackjack tables that night

Good morning from a smoke haze covered So. Central WIsconsin. It’s not as bad as a a couple weeks ago as the Air Quality number is now 143 and going to rise. It was 23 yesterday morning and 96 in the evening. As I type this the alert has been extended into Monday. This is supposedly Western Canada’s smoke haze. Unlike a couple weeks ago they are not identifying it as aged Alberta smoke or Quebec smoke, just as Western Canadian smoke. Doesn’t matter to me, last week we had 2 days of drifting smoke haze from the North Central WIsconsin fires about 120 miles north and east of here. It all sucks. The difference in breathability was noticeable to Terry who has COPD.

I can’t imagine being with an insurance company for years and the insurance company says, find someone else we will not cover your area anymore. I see AAA today is pulling out areas of California because they experienced some losses as did State Farm and Allstate a few weeks ago. Gee, isn’t that why they are in business, but it’s the American way and allowed!

I did some weathering yesterday for about 3 hours spread out. I started moving materials for the next layout into the new shop area. My daughter and grandson surprised me by painting the area located under the garages that will be the main area of the layout on Friday. The ceiling is black and the concrete walls are my sky blue color. The rest of the lower level is completely dry walled and painted but there was no need to do that under the garages. Today, smoke haze permitting, I will move the framing material into the layout space and set up my chop saw and table. I am using 1/2” 7 ply plywood cut into 3” strips 8’ long for framing. Some will need to be cut smaller depending on the shelf width. There are no plans for any Penisulas so there are no legs planned as the layout will cantilever from the walls. The hammer drill has been tested and still works great. Excitement is building up!

Enjoy the day

Morning all,

Out soon to spend the day with 2 of the grandkids. Going to be a good day!

Just paused to get me some happy pills. Knees are going to kill me if I don't.

It's going to be a muggy 92° later. Currently 78° with a AQI of 22. Supposed to be in the 100's by midweek.

It's so hot, the garlic is taking it's cloves off.

Laters...

Good morning. Happy Sunday! 77°, overcast with light rain. In spite of all the dire forecasts of downpours of biblical proportion over the past several days, it has remained dry. So after dinner last night, I ran the portable sprinkler and completely watered the lawn and gardens. Overnight, we had an additional 1" of rain.

Growing up, we lived in the main glide path for PHL so I started spotting aircraft as they flew over at a couple hundred feet or less. I got to see and hear all sorts of piston aircraft, the early jets then modern jets, plus some really neat military aircraft. I also lived close enough to a ship yard, so I became familiar with numerous ocean going ships, plus the local railroads. No wonder I became interested in transportation and logistics. While working at South Kearney, and Oak Island, I became used to a big jet approaching EWR every 30 seconds. That whole area, Port Elizabeth, Port Newark, the Turnpike, EWR, and Oak Island / Chemical Coast, was truly the Crossroads of Commerce.

Where I live, we are approximately 38 miles from Joint Base, McGuire - Dix -Lakehurst, and get to see almost daily flyovers of C-17s, the New Tankers, USMC CH53s, UH 1-Y and AH 1 - Z plus Army UH 60 and USCG Dolphins rotary wing aircraft. Add to that, what ever may be touch and going or testing at Lakehurst keeps things interesting. Then there are the artillery /Armor ranges at Dix, especially on cloudy days... The Sound of Freedom.

These little people ought to get over it....they need to learn there is more to life beyond the classroom and faculty lounge.

It's supposed to be a wet one, so I see more train room time for today. Plus any other indoor chores that may come to my attention.

A very late Good Morning to All. Heavy thunderstorm and 72° at 900 am CDT. I'm quite late as I didn't wake up until 7:45, went to bed at 9:15 last night, but I was interrupted with a 1.5 hour break during the night. The rain is much needed so I hope it continues for a while. Hard to tell as my usual "go to" radar site is stalled out at 0430 this morning. Windows are currently open as the breeze is quite light and no rain is entering.

Not much to post about yesterday, picked tomatoes, mowed for a little while, finally got the other umbrella back up over the pool, and made two visits to the pool since the temperature has remained steady at 88°.

Out in the train shed yesterday, life was just as boring. All that I did was to continue to clean structures as I move south on the layout. Some of the ones that stand out are the Bar Mills kit Oakleaf Shipping & Storage.

Sherrel - I have no thought of going overboard with my recovery efforts. I will be happy to return to my shape of a year ago; I have no aspirations to go back 30 years. Slight downside though, I gained back 3 lbs. of the 10 that I lost! Hoping to hold it there for now before trying to lose more. I could trim my beard and lose another pound if needed!
I also hate 2FA, but have resigned myself into accepting it as there isn't many ways out.
Terry - I disagree that any discussion of the SECURE Act 2.0 is political, although it could easily degenerate to that. I haven't really formed an opinion regarding it since I am now removed from the working class.
Tom O - Actually my representatives really represent and vote for my views. My representative here in TX-13 is Ronny Jackson, and the Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. They are all quite conservative.

Temporary halt in the rain, with just 0.25" in the gauge. Maybe more coming, maybe not.
Everybody have a great day.

Good Morning!

This time of year brings the annual June Bug scream resonating through the forest. This is a very definite sound that cannot be mistaken for any other. It only occurs when a women gets a Sawyer beetle stuck in her hair:

We've had horrific air quality due to smoke over the last couple of days. Annual summertime venues, outdoor concerts, and sporting games have been shut-down due to the smoke issues.
Then, storm winds and rain showed up in my area late yesterday, blowing most of the smoke issues toward the southeast. Today isn't so bad, I can at least see the forest line on the horizon.
The call for the coming week is daily rain. That should help beat down the smoke.

Joe - As a matter-of fact, we will be travelling through CP country in August. Perhaps we'll see that dome car in Calgary or south. I hope I don't see that cop still sitting there, though.
Patrick - Tough-luck on the brother-in-laws house. Personally, I don't plant conifers in my yard, and don't allow my deciduous trees to get higher than 20'. I've seen to many people loose their roof to a big white spruce.
Karl - I really do like the slab-sided covered hoppers. Are those an earlier design, like from the fifties?

I'm going to make tracks in going down to the creek with the dog. We're going to find out how bad the mosquito's are.
While we were away on holidays, this area was experiencing rain and flood. The high, fast moving water in the creek moved the congestions of dead trees crossing that water. It also moved sand and stone. This ferocious movement of water has created entirely new gravel beds.
So, I'm going down there to find what spectacular stones can be picked up. I've already found a fine crinoidal limestone.
It's just another hobby; finding and identifying rocks that were deposited by the retreat of shallow seas or brought here by glacial movements.

Anyway, time to make tracks. Have a great day!!
