CongratsNo trains to speak of today, but garage walls are painted and finally after well over 3 years and after solid cleaning, car sits where it belongs. Even got a guard "dog":View attachment 171665View attachment 171666

Those folks principal occupation is protesting. If the Air Guard went away, they would create a new cause to complain about.Madison’s protest community says well it’s a place for low income to live. Don’t they understand it’s going to get loud for few minutes per hour?
Like those in the previous topic, some of these folks will complain about accuracy, before they even see a rendering of the model. They just complain for the sake of complaining. They then lay low, when someone produces a photo or diagram.I am not counting the windows in passenger cars or seeing that they should be 16” wide. I now just want the feels right feeling
Not a chance. I'm trying to keep things in perspective.Don't overdo your rehab.
That particular ETF I've only been in since last November, so it has done well for me. I know the losses well though. 2009 was a disaster for me, one of the primary reasons I went to self-management. The financial advisor that I had at the time (and for a while afterwards), just didn't see stuff the same as me. While I made gains in some years with him, I did a lot better with a "practice" website; which I turned into the real thing once I had the time. I primarily use ETF's and specific mutual funds rather than individual stocks. One of my favorites that I used years ago, was one that I refer to as my "sin fund". It was invested in casino's, tobacco, alcohol, and "girlie movie studios". Sadly it is no more, but the investment paid off handsomely. Right now I am looking at defense oriented funds, as replenishment of "war supplies" should be strong for a few more years.of course how much did it lose in past years...
Thanks Curt.Tom- Nice looking dog and cat.
A bit late to respond, but this reminds me of a similar true story regarding the father of a friend of mine. Bill owned a Western Wear store in Denton TX, (since the early 50's), his childhood buddy Weldon owned a competing store. They always engaged in some friendly competition; Bill sold Lee jeans, Weldon sold Levi's and that kind of competition. One day in the late 80's, another fellow came to town and said that he was going to open his own western wear store and compete with Bill and Weldon. Before he started, they both invited him to drinks and dinner at a very exclusive private steakhouse near town. They told him that there wasn't room for another store in town and tried to convince him not to proceed. But the hard-headed gentleman persisted, and got a lucrative location and proceeded to stock the store with many $$$ of inventory.Next: This is a true story.
My sister knows a gal* who was one of her bridesmaids. She shall remain unamed here.
This lady's* big brother--and he's a very big, very wide man--is Gabe Newell. Gabe is a multi-billionaire, perhaps best known today as the CEO and driving force behind gaming conglomerate "STEAM." I gather he came up first with a short stint at Microsoft, then worked for a while with the crowd at "Doom," and still later on founded "Valve Software," who best known game(s) were "Half-Life" and its follow-ons.
He's a good guy too, according to my sister, who has met him and spent some time with him and his own little sister.
=========
At some point Gabe's little sister is having some trouble making the rent on her apartment one month, so she swallows her pride and and asks him for a loan to tide her over.
[She will probably be a multi-millionaire in her own right when he passes, but until then they each take care of themselves]
"He didn't give me the loan," she told my sister, "but he sure solved my problem!"
"He bought my whole building...".
Sherrel: I'm not familiar with the photographer, but he captured the essence of Browns in the dead of winter. 1974 was exactly 12 years before I first saw Browns, and Southern Branch (CNJ) local from Red Bank to Browns, closed down South Amboy Yard and the Coal Dumper, and taken over the Raritan River Rail Road, moving their operation from South Amboy to Brown. Other changes included running the freight through Oak Island Yard in Newark, instead of Morrisville, and bringing the freight via YJOI-60, a transfer crew. 1986 Browns power consisted of GP-38s, U23Bs and B-23-7s with an occasional SW 1500. The Transfer ran with a consist of Four B-23-7s.JOE I missed a compliment on the S-4's. Mighty fine photography!
Lesson to be learned-"If you want to succeed, never tell anyone your plans".A bit late to respond, but this reminds me of a similar true story regarding the father of a friend of mine. So, a week before his grand opening, the three of them again met for drinks/dinner and he bragged about his opening. That was when Bill pulled out an envelope and read from the enclosed paper. He had just purchased the building and was terminating the gentleman's lease immediately. The poor fellow was stuck with over a half million dollars worth of inventory that he had to move within seven days Bill and Weldon helped him out by purchasing some but not all for 10¢ on the dollar. Bill eventually sold the unused building years later for a good profit. Money talks!
