My 1st "movie Theater" movies , The Horsemen (w/ Omar Sharif and Jack Palance) I was just 10, and saw my 1st boobs in a motion picture. Dad took me, and told me don't tell your mother what you saw!
I also saw Song of the South as a child. Still remember it!

Zippidy do dah, zippidy A!

Good morning, Everybody!
Another quality start from Tyler Wells. He was my Mom's favorite prospect. He has established himself as a front-line starter. My Mom knew baseball! At 6'8", 260lbs I think he reminded her of me.

I doubt I saw much more than a dozen movies in a theater my entire life. The elderly couple that raised me didn't go to movies. My mom did not have time for movies. Each of my sisters took me to a movie. "The Man Called Flintstone" and "Diamonds are Forever."

I don't think I saw another movie until "Apocalypse Now"

The only movies I ever chose to go to were "Fire Fox" and "Missing in Action". And I took my future wife to see "Freddy vs. Jason" Being European she was amazed at how loud and crazy American movie audiences can be. We had so much fun. The movie was ok. The audience was more entertaining; shouting, screaming, trying to warn victims, and cheering for Freedy or Jason.

My son loves to go to the movies and has taken me to see several. The last four or five I fell asleep, even in the IMax I fell asleep. They were all good movies, but If I sit still in a dark place, I fall asleep. It doesn't matter how loud it is. I don't bother to go anymore. I wait until I can watch them at home. At home, my wonderful wife will stop the movie when I fall asleep. Later we can pick up where we left off.

Alright folks - ROY ROGERS in 'Grand Canyon Trail' in 1949 .. a small movie theater where we did not get the first run of anything - 14 cents for the movie and 10 cents for the popcorn and coke!

Patrick - I remember 'THEM' - I was afraid to walk home the whole 2 blocks!

Didn't see a major league game until 1964 in K.C. DAD bought a TV 54-55? where we could watch the Series, but being 70 miles from the tower we could barely make out the ball from the snow in the picture.

One of my favorites , asnd still is, is 'Forbidden Planet'!
What a shame that so much history is being raped and banned from kids nowdays!
"Them" was the first horror film I saw, saw it on TV, it was scary. Saw the first Godzilla at the movies, that was scary too. All we get today is Zombies. For model Railroaders, the film "Clue" was funny. The protagonist was "Lionel Twain" and his house address was "22 Twain Circle". I thought it was funny! Did a search and there is a real house at 22 Twain Circle, it is north east of Philly.

OK, I'm back to awake status.

(all "woke" puns should be made in PM to keep the forum deities placated) 😜

Been dealing with a bunch of failures on my 3D printer (Elegoo Saturn v1.1) Supports failing which leads to the model falling off the build plate and becoming a pancake of cured resin on the bottom of the vat.

A podcast host was having the same problem, with the same model of printer, and tracked it back to the resin... yep. I'm using the same resin. But I don't want to scrap most of a $30 bottle.

So, I'll be printing more ships today and tomorrow to use that stuff up.

Got the angry badgers based yesterday. Need to add scenic cement, and my special mix of black and grey fine ballast to give it more dwarven quarry look.
Brocks.jpg

With 10 angry badgers, that gave me two regiments of 5 each. The riders are stuck to corks, and about half-painted. I hope to finish them today. The fellow in the mine car is an extra I didn't need for a beserker base. And I needed scenic filler in that part of the base. So, he's catching a look at the badgers while on his way to another part of the battle.

Well Mr. Peabody, since we got the Wayback Machine going, what was the first movie you saw. My first movie was "Song of the South", mom and dad took me. Movie is now banned and will never be shown again. The first movie I ever went to by myself, "Them" I had nightmares for 2 weeks
Appalling that "wokeness" has almost canceled a song like this one, from the Song of the South:

That song won the Academy Award for best song in 1947...but you have to dig around to find the movie (it's out there, but it does take a bit of digging).

I thought Cabot Cove was the Murder capital of Maine. Didn't Angela Lansbury solve a murder there every week?
This one is in Nova Scotia, Canada! But, I will have to check with Terry. She watched those shows every week and I know a few years ago she binged on a few seasons worth. I guess looking back, I never really watched a lot of network TV. Sports, mainly NFL and golf on the weekends.

But, safer in numbers. With a crew of 16, I should be safe!

Clue: Mom (88) asked me the other day about "that game you kids all used to play," which, after some back and forth turned out to be Clue.

It's about six AM here now and, as it happens, "Clue" the movie will be on our comedy channel in about two hours. I've been awake all night doing various things and I intend to watch it. Supposed to be reasonably good. Leslie Ann Warren (rowrrr!) and apparently model railroading too. What's not to like?

As for me (born in '60) I'm sure I saw more than a few movies I just can't remember. We did have a local theater, and I remember being there a few times...but can't remember any of the films. I know I was only six then, because we moved later that year.

The first ones I can remember clearly however (can't tell you which one I saw first) were both first seen by me in 1967, I'm pretty sure: "Batman" ('66) and "Way...Way Out," (also '66). The former sported Lee Meriwether* as Catwoman, who was only later supplanted by Julie Newmar. Julie was funnier. Lee mostly got a chance to stretch the catsuit...but both worked for me then and now.

[*Lee was a former Miss America turned actress. I had good taste even at age seven.]

"Way...Way Out" was a Jerry Lewis movie, and I distinctly remember lying on my stomach with both hands propped up under my chin watching it in front of the TV. Had to be '67.

I was a "space kid," and even though I knew even then it was just comedy, parts of it still made a huge impression on me. Namely Connie Stevens. I didn't have a clue what a "beehive" hairdo was, but I had a thing for short haired blondes all the way thru high school. Still do, although not ONLY for short haired blondes now. :D

Pretty good cast too, even if light entertainment. Lewis, Stevens, Robert Morley, Brian Keith, Dick Shawn, Dennis Weaver and...

...Anita Ekberg. In a "fairy costume." Brunettes have got it going on too.

If you want to take a gander at it, it's on YouTube:

Good morning rememberers of the movies of our youth. I remember a few besides the 1st one. But as a kid and even as an adult we didn’t do many movies. I remember Ben Hur at the drive in with the 5 of us as a family. Alamo (1960, I had to look it up) at the theater because it was the first movie I was allowed to go to with kids only, no adults tagging along. There were at least 6 of us, all neighbors and class mates. I would have been 8 and it was the 1st time I ever held hands with a girl, my neighbor Monica. In high school she became most of my firsts besides holding hands. For some reason years later she is the only women Terry has met as a friend of mine she took an instant dislike to. After retirement in 2014, Terry and I started going almost every Tuesday for $5.00 entry with free popcorn to the theater including up to the last Tuesday before the Covid shutdown in March, 2020. Fridays we might go occasionally for the same price but no free popcorn. Lots of not memorable movies in those almost 6 years. Haven’t been back since!

Yesterday was another spectacular weather and pool day. Looks like the same type of weather day today. High of 84, great sun already, not a cloud to be seen and a calm wind. The granddaughter who normally wakes at 7 is still sleeping at 7:42 but I checked, she’s tossing and turning. She finally wore herself out yesterday, like she has done to me since Wednesday. At 2 today I will meet one of the other granddads and pickup the grandson at a meeting spot 1/2 way between here and Milwaukee. I did ask if we could meet in the parking lot at Hiawatha Hobbies but met with some resistance about that even though it would have saved him about 24 miles. It was not worth any aggravation.

The g/d when she pops up will want breakfast of hard salamI, raisins, mango slices and a stick of string cheese along with peach flavored tea. Again, it’s not donut a day, dang! My friend along with 2 of his granddaughters will be here to swim, eat and watch my granddaughter while I go drive for grandson. Tonight though I will take the gd/kids home to their own beds. The parents are flying back in after their bedtime. It will nice to have peace and quiet again. The grandkids on Monday will be over weather permitting to use the pool while either mom or dad watch them, not me if I don’t want.

enjoy the day

Good Morning All!

59F @ 62% and clear again.

1st theater movie was 'What do you say to a naked lady'. I think we were 12 and had to sneak into the Dishman Theater in Spo. Don't think that Mom ever knew about it. Dishman switched to porn just after that. From what I overheard Mom saying is that movie filled the theater until they quit running it and that was what caused the switch.

Baseball: Used to ride bikes to the 'Spokane Indians Stadium' at the Fairgrounds and climb up/into the scoreboard to watch the game from one of the empty windows in it way out in center field. Got caught a couple of times, but since we were kids, they let us stay. One of the score keepers/changers even bought and brought us a couple of pop's and pretzels! My 1st MLB game were the M's sometime in the middle 80's at the King Dome. Did watch the Seahawks there just after expansion - 78ish?

ReDo: Almost to wallboard in the North room. When we started, we decided to remove the doors to the North and East bedrooms to combine the floor space, giving our Daughter the whole thing. Sure looks a lot bigger. When that is done, will move the Daughter's bed ( and other associated stuff ) into it and start on the East room. Should be a whole bunch easier as the hard part is done. Only have to tear out those 1 x 6 tongue and groove walls, deal with the ceiling, make sure the floor is level and put in the new electrical, then wallboard it. The South room has all of her craft stuff in it. Looks like a hoarders paradise and is gonna be a PITA to move to the East room! She has more cutting toys than I do: 2 ( or 3 ) CriCut's, rotater for doing cups or glasses and a tee shirt press for vinyl; ok so that is not a cutter, but still.

Later

Good Morning All. Heavy rain right now and 78°, a little thunder to go along with it.

My first movie was Ben Hur. My second grade class got on a bus and went to downtown Brooklyn in 1959. Don't remember the name of the theater, but it was also the first time that I rode a bus. I had ridden the subway many times before that. The next movie that I went to was 10 years later when me and a buddy went to watch Candy, quite scandalous at the time. Technically I wasn't old enough to get in, but someone looked the other way.

I made 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce yesterday with home-grown tomatoes, onions and Basil. Mushrooms came from Kroger. Took longer than expected though. All jar seals are good.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did a bit more cleaning of quadrant three, upper level. Vacuumed the remaining industrial spurs and the roadways. Structures are next. I retook the hobo scene pictures, but left the camera out there and it's still raining.
From the archives, a few engine pictures.

So far it looks like 0.35" in the rain gauge. Everyone have a great day.

All we get today is Zombies.
Which is funny, because one of the first movies I ever saw, was the weekly serial "Zombies of the Stratosphere", shown as part of the Saturday Morning 3 hour Kids extravaganza at the "MAC" on the East Side. Different interpretation of "Zombies" of course, and a Art Deco glimpse of the future in glorious grayscale. One of the first "first run" movies, that I went to without a adult was "Sink the Bismark" .

First baseball I saw was the 61 Yankees vs the White Sox. Dont remember much about it.
Mike CGW
Wow! My first trip to Yankee Stadium was in 1961. A Wednesday twilight doubleheader in July, against the White Sox. Ralph Terry pitched the opener, Whitey Ford the second. Both games were a Home Run derby, with Mantle and Maris each getting two, Yogi and Elston Howard, Moose Skowron and Hank Bauer each getting one, and third string catcher John Blanchard getting a pinch hit homer in each game. God, that was an awesome baseball team. The White Sox, were a good team in 1961, but the Yankees were awesome. I was 12 at the time, and really in to baseball.

Good morning, all.

It's 60F early this morning and supposed to reach 87F by days end. Far and away to hot for my northern blood, but, I don't believe this is unusual.
Personally, I function the very best and am most mobile at 60F with low humidity.

The highest recorded temperature in my area was 99F on June 29, 1937.
The lowest recorded temperature in my area was -56F on February 3, 1893.

Although, I firmly believe it's in our own interest to take far better care of the earth, I question the global warming concept as being anything other than a natural cyclic event of the earth, and one definitely being expedited by humans. The earth knows how to take care of herself, and I believe she'll kill us all off if we bring her too close to the redline.
Fully more than half of this years fires were started by people, intentionally or unintentionally. The Highway 99 fire was started by a discarded cigarette, for example. The Evansburg inferno started too close to a metro population to be considered anything less than human fused. Blue Ridge started by a train derail.
Anyway, that's my uneducated take on the current heat wave; it's just a natural event expedited by people and will turn again in future with the intention of trying to freeze us or drown us with rain.

I would like to have a caboose. So I did something out of character, and purchased on the Bay. A blue box cheapo:
AtheranCaboose_07-08-2023.jpg

I'm hoping I can fix it up a-bit with paint.
The number confuses me. 95441; that is the same number on a 4 window caboose, as well as a wide-body version I came across. I didn't realize the manufacturers were that fakey; always thought they might have done the research.
Oh well, it's a $10 caboose turned into a $30 caboose due to s/h.

The dog is really bugging me for her walk. Suppose I'd better make tracks.
Have a good one!
