Good Morning All. Clear and 76° this morning, going up to maybe 96° later on. Next triple digit day might be Saturday according to the 10 day forecast. Rain which used to be in the forecast has been removed for the foreseeable future, which is normal for here in July.
Today is clean the house day in preparation for my wife's return tomorrow. Mostly I have kept up, but the dog hair from the two granddogs spoils everything. Laundry and dishes are caught up, the bed linens were washed yesterday right on schedule. I'll miss something for sure. The lack of rain has helped since I am not mowing right now. I don't know yet whether I am going to return the granddogs and retrieve my wife, or whether one of the daughters is going to make the trip and do the exchange here.
Another Sunday with very little time out in the train shed, as usual. I only ran trains since my time ended up being limited, but I enjoyed it.
From the archives, my one and only Campbell kit. It's a pallet manufacturer.
Tom - Your garden is certainly not as overgrown as mine. Looks good. Is that someone's vineyard in the background?
Patrick - Now that looks more like my garden, all kinds of different veggies intermingled with one another. That is just before last Friday when I removed all plants except Tomatoes and Peppers. I have found that bush beans aren't always bushes and I've had Squash vines reach over 8' in length. Sweet Potatoes vines that I haven't grown in a few years can reach 20'.
Guy - Those railcars are definitely Autoracks, although they might be carrying SUV's or pickup trucks as well. The doors are visible on the ends. They open the doors and back the railcars up to an adjustable loading/unloading ramp and drive them on or off. Ramps can be placed between multiple cars and a whole string of them can be loaded/unloaded at one spotting.
Years ago, there was a Honda unloading facility on ATSF next to Alliance Airport in Ft Worth, that I used to railfan. That was before Honda's were made in Ohio and Alabama, and they were unloaded off ships in Washington or Vancouver and came this way via BN at the time before being handed off to ATSF. It was closed after domestic production began.
While to many Americans, holidays are just another day off work, there are many more who know the reason behind them and do appropriate honoring; Memorial Day and July 4th are good examples. the true meaning behind several others has been lost over the years, like Labor Day and President's Day.
Sherrel - Sorry to read about your BIL. Best wishes for him.
Tom O - I still remember the Friday in 1975 that I got my first paycheck for over $100. Wife and I went out to eat.
Y'all have a great day.
