I'm at a loss to reason why.
A lot of the baby boomers, which made up most of the blue collar workforce retired over the last few years. My brother which was the tail end of the boomers retired last year. Not enough young ones that want to work let alone manual labor jobs. I have a class A drivers license and could walk into any trucking company and get anywhere from a $5000 - $10,000 bonus.

Willie and Patrick- Garden is coming along. Just tilled yesterday. Got lettuce and kale so

far.

Good morning from So. Central WIsconsin where the grass is golden tan and the sun will be missing again today. The radar shows the nearest rain is around 10 miles south of us. Possibility of T-storms after 1 but running the extended radar for 12 hours shows it missing me.

Got some more done on my engine house.

Texted a few of the folks regarding the weathering projects I have for them. Asked them if I finish up early if I can bill and ship. 2 of 3 said yes, 2 have not responded yet. So, I will start on those 2 projects. Freights cars (ethanol and sulfur tank cars) and 3 locomotives. Today, the locomotives will get the windows taped masked and the units matte clear coated. For the tanks cars I will pull up the pictures and figure out the plan.

enjoy the day

That's also true, but again why?

I remember when my family first moved to this neighborhood, being threatened with child services, for causing a hazardous environment for my children....I got caught changing the oil on my car! We didn't have an activist HOA, at the time, but we were "blessed" with an activist couple who wanted to mold the neighborhood to their standards. In the end, I didn't cave in, and they left themselves open with their child rearing that I could also threaten child services, but with a more valid reasoning. But many bought in. FF 36 years, My son shave successful careers. The "so called" learning disabled ADD "victim" has his MBA and a good job with the DOD. The other is wrapping up his Army career, and planning the next phase of his life. The neighbor's kids? Not as well, in spite of not being exposed to garage mechanics...

Don't know whether or not that has anything to do with it, but...this activist person, became a school director....

Good morning, Everybody!

Dissmissed it first as just some port of which i see plenty...well crap! I'm in this one all the time! Baltimore and the coal loop. Just to the right of the middle is a warehouse with two rounded roofs, i pick up there all the time. Most of the time there is a set of diesels waiting to go through what i think is a thawing plant with rotary dumper. Got told not to take pictures few times by security...well rules are made by men who breathe an bleed just like me, learned to grab shots of diesels from the cab of my truck. A lot of times there is a set of diesels by that long ramp just below the coal yard, but those are impossible to photograph do to there not having any space to pull over. To the very left in the picture on the other side of big white building with black roof (sheetrock plant?) there are usually CSX diesels parked on a siding awaiting for made up container train.

That has everything to do with it. Growing up with my dad (old school guy) there was no slacking, even got chewed up for leaving drips while painting doors. Was taught to change oil while in high school, had to wash and polish the car with my brother even earlier than that. Cleaning our room on saturday morning so we wouldn't live like pigs was mandatory. That and many other things gave me what is called "work ethic", what most young people don't have and that's where the problem lies.

Good morning. It's sunny and 85.
I installed decoders in both SD60s this morning, and they both run well--with one serious issue with both of them.
They both run backwards.
I used NCE N12A1 decoders to NDOT reverse, to get them both to run in the proper direction, but the lights are now reversed. I find it difficult to believe both locomotives, manufactured over two decades apart, would have both motors accidentally installed upside-down. I can probably send an email to NCE about it, and hopefully they'll respond in the next couple of weeks with CV settings to reverse the lighting.
I know I can change some CV settings to make the things light in the proper direction, I'm just not sure with this brand which CV.

Good Morning all!

55F @ 57% with severe clear. Supposed to get to 85F later.

Competency: Most kids around here have a pretty good work ethic and want to work. School does teach them the 3r's and we do not have all the crap that some of the other schools pile on. The school actually listens to the parents. Some of the kids do go to College which for the most part changes them. Sometimes better, sometimes for the worst. Our daughter was one of those with the change for the worst. She thought that anybody she worked for owed her. A couple of years ago, she became a production manager which allowed her to see the profit/loss of the business and started to understand that it needed to survive to pay people and not go under water. She is back to being a conservative. The people I have met while on the road that were not truck drivers were pretty much the same. They understood how the world works. I did not get out in to the local 'hood so I can not tell you about that.

Class A license: Still have mine, but not planning on using it again. Now days, $10K for a bonus is somewhat low. I still contact some people from our last company as they became friends. I am told that the bonus ( no matter what the amount ) does not get them the top class people that they are looking for, but at least a warm breathing body. That in itself for the trucking business is not good. I can attest to that as just talking with the newbies tells me that they pretty much don't care and sometimes do not have a clue of what they are getting into; even after completing school. They think that their 70 foot formula vehicle can do just about anything! Another reason to watch out for those big trucks! The other thing that bugs me is most have 0 work ethic. They get a load if they manage to make it on time, then screw around in the shipper area until they have to roll to make the receiver at the delivery time. Early is not a word in their vocabulary and they don't think about possible problems in-route. And, they can not seem to live on $120K+ while driving and end up quitting for one reason or another. From what I have heard, usually because they are not making enough $$$. Too many toys and not enough brain cells, I guess.

ReDo: Moving right along and I actually think we can be done with it come the middle of August. Ya, we are slow but not really in a hurry.

Well, my evil science in the garden may finally be paying off...I introduce the Cukemato!!!

Took me a while, but think of the commercial possibilities!!! 😂😂😂😂

I actually hadn't seen it yesterday when I was picking the others. Didn't realize the "bush" cucumbers had spread that far into the tomatoes.

Good Morning All. It's mostly cloudy and an unseasonably cool 70° right now. Expecting to reach 94° later today. The brief rain shower yesterday didn't register in my rain gauge, but the Weather Underground station nearby recorded 0.05", might as well not have rained at all. The clouds kept the high temperature to just 83°, a welcome respite. Besides pushing me out of the tomato patch yesterday, the brief rain got things wet enough that I had to deal with wet doggie footprints inside the back door for the rest of the day. The dew this morning is leading to more of the same.

One thing that I did get done in the garden later on, was to mow all of the areas that are now going to lie fallow for a while, peas, beans, broccoli, carrots, squash, lettuce. All that's left is the tomatoes and peppers. Meanwhile, due to the cloud cover Friday and Saturday, the pool temperature dropped by 4° to 86°. It almost felt cold!

So last night a bit after sunset, I was hearing noises that weren't the usual appliance and other household noises. Since I had already taken out my hearing aids for the night, I couldn't really detect where or what they were. Granddogs were acting a bit funny as well. Then I stepped out into the yard and realized that it was fireworks! Folks sure started early this year. I had to turn on the window A/C unit in the living room to provide "white noise", to keep the dogs settled. I had earlier been glad to have been able to turn all of them off for the night since it was so cool outside. Used the timer to run it until midnight. There are no laws or ordinances here regarding fireworks, and there is no current burn ban, so folks all over were setting them off. Bubba, my neighbor up the road to the west, usually spends in excess of $2500 on fireworks every 4th and New Years. Then several of his friends from the city come out with all of theirs, and I usually have a great show to watch. They ain't buying firecrackers or bottle rockets, but really big floral displays. Another neighbor, Jim the retired policeman to the north, also does a whole lot of fireworks, but he didn't do any last night. I'll watch from the pool for a while, but usually go to bed after a few of them and can't hear them.

Train shed activity yesterday was rather minimal. I was out there long enough to add four more figures to the Merchant's Row I complex before I had to attend to the granddogs who had taken off after an armadillo in a direction that wasn't good for them, towards the road.
Here are two pedestrians walking down the sidewalk away from the action.

Then I added a doorman/bouncer and an employee coming to work at the Calico Cat nightclub.

I thought that I would get more done while my wife is on vacation, but it hasn't panned out that way yet!

Sherrel - If you are having trouble finding Waldo, you could always attach one of those flags like the utility companies use to pinpoint underground lines.
Troy - Everything is better with some Sharp Cheddar.

I won't make any comments on the work ethic of folks born past 1990. I saw some of it first hand while managing at the window company. Some of my beliefs border on political.
Everybody out there have a wonderful day.

Good morning!

Raining this morning, which is ok in my books. The rain means I won't run into anyone on the forest trails when I walk the dog. Most people will only go into the forest on nice days. - Except for this one women who is a dedicated dog walker. She calls us the 'only two fools'.

I spent some time yesterday, going through the couple hundred photos I took on the holiday trip. I'm trying to organize and file them; it's a taxing job. Good thing I made some location notes, as my memory no longer works good.

There are a few railroad photos, like this shot taken in Blue River, BC:
Blue River BC_06-30-2023 (1).JPG

As that freight passed by, I took a number of photos of the engines and rail cars it was pulling. Some of those photos will be posted as we go along in the future days.
That particular train was pulling centre-beam flats, gondolas, box cars, and a good number of this type of railcar:
TTGX 699162_BlueRiverBC_07-01-2023.JPG

TTGX 696534_BlueRiverBC_07-01-2023.JPG

I do not know what those rail cars are carrying, but I don't believe they are auto carriers. There are hoards of these in use on BC freight trains.
My thoughts are, they are carrying forest products; don't really know, though. I've only seen one of this type of rail car on the tracks in Alberta.

Anyway, here's a few photos of the Rivarossi Blue Comet that I purchased for cheap in BC:

This photo describes the pair of steamers that I own. The little one is a Bachmann 'Prairie'.
Rivarossi_07-01-2023 (6).JPG

You might notice that there is slight damage on that Rivarossi. There is a small chip in the stack, the front bell was broken off, and a rear wire handrail is missing. That's all I can see wrong with it, other than it stutters at slow speed. All of those points are repairable, in my opinion.

Willie - I don't celebrate holiday's; it's true. I just don't see the point in most of them. And, I don't see anyone else celebrating what the holiday is intended to honour, either. To most, it's just a day off work; to a few, it's a day to open the wallet and spend.
The only special days that mean anything to me, are Remembrance Day and Christmas for the children.

Thank you all for the likes and comments on these simple posts. Gotta make tracks; have a good one!

Hey Everyopne -- Summer finally arrived: It was 94 yesterday and supposed to be 95 today with clear, sunny skies!

FRANCINE -- Coffee for all my friends ... and diet drinks for all the non-coffee folks ... put it on my tab!

The spousal Unit has been feeding Waldo fruit, cucumbers, and romaine lettuce. I took Rosie (our remaining pup) to get groomed at the sister-in-law's yesterday and picked a handful of grape leaves for the turtle to munch on.
Brother-in-law is doing poorly due to prostate cancer and he starts chemo tomorrow:
He indicated that his PSA spiked at 160? Is that possible?

Imma gonna keep my mouth shut on my thoughts of how the work ethic in this country is!
