Welp, wife changed my mind. Thought we'd be hitting the Mexican place for dinner. She's off work today and tomorrow.

I mentioned that I got a birthday discount at a downtown pizza place, but only tomorrow (my actual b-day anniversary) and only if I use the app to order for pickup. Oh, and tomorrow begins the BIG downtown festival in Fort Wayne. Parking will be pricy everywhere, and hard to find... Oh, well, maybe next year if the festival dates shift off my birthday...

So, she changed my mind. We're going today, pre-festival.

Drat! I wanted cheese dip and chips.

If Darkwing Duck was a train, that would be it.
I loved Darkwing Duck! Probably explains why I like the new Acela.

I miss watching cartoons with the kids and grandkids. My grandsons are teenagers now, and not interested in cartoons. I do have a six-month-old grandson. I have yet to be trusted to babysit because I only have one good hand and I'm not in good health. I did get to hold him in my lap. A bright boy that looks you in the eye as you talk to him. I took the expression on his face when he first saw me as "look at the size of that head! I've never seen a head so big!"

55 degrees going up to 86 with blue skies and breezy - nice all around.

GUY - Very nice photos - loved the birds; we have a couple very small ones that sneak in when they can. Have to only be maybe 2 inches long. As Spock would say: "Fascinating"!

TROY - I find your small garden "Fascinating" as well ... very nice.

Slow moving this morn - We all went out to see the latest Indiana Jones movie and dinner last evening.
Spousal Unit, kids and daughter liked it; me, not so much: there is not much left to "chase" as most of the movie was chase scenes with one chasing the other, or the other chasing the one!
Haven't been to a movie house since 'Grand Torino' I don't think - The sound was deafening even without my aids - too much!

Need more Coffee, FLO, please

Morning. I'm in The Greatest City in The World today (i hope everyone can feel the sarcasm in this statement). Hot, humid, barely any clouds and even though i'm near water there's barely any breeze. For the past year i've been interested in Antracite carriers in east Pennsylvania. My personal favorites are Reading, and Lehigh and New England. While much of former Reading track is still being used by todays Reading and Northern, only few scant miles of L&NE survive and are in use. One of the largest strucures belonging to L&NE is the surviving roundhouse in Pen Argyl:

Sealed entrance to Hauto tunnel in Panther Valley:

The rails are still there but barely visible in the mud and branches. This narrow gauge steamer operated at one of Collieries in Panther Valley and is now on display in coal museum in Lansford:

The colliery belonged to Lehigh Coal and Navigation, which by ways not completely understood by me also operated L&NE.
Here is one of my absolute favorites among American steam:

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 74° here. Isolated thunderstorms are in the forecast, although they currently are all well north of here possibly soaking Patrick on his way to work. High today only expected to reach 90° after 98° yesterday, and 98° again for a few days into next week.

Busy day yesterday on the SFW estate. Spent the morning reassembling a shade umbrella over the pool that had blown over the day before during a thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon. After lunch I took an extra long nap since I didn't sleep well the night before. Then I canned tomatoes into plain sauce. I only did six quarts instead of the seven planned since one of the jars had a nick in the rim and couldn't be used. Fortunately I discovered it before preparing too many tomatoes.

Afterwards, I grilled some marinated chicken thighs that my wife bought at Trader Joe's Tuesday morning. They were OK, but probably over-priced. We happened to have Brussels Sprouts and Caprese Salad with the thighs.

Today is grocery trek Thursday as usual. Several side stops are needed this week, although most of them are within a half mile of the grocery store. I also need to empty the dishwasher which ran overnight. Sometime today or tomorrow, I need to locate some more quart size canning jars, since many of mine are still filled with last years various harvests.

No time was spent in the train shed yesterday, as the canning of the tomato sauce took longer than expected. I'm itching to get to the hobo camp, as it has been on the project list for a while, and I want to remember what I intend to do.

Swal - I don't intentionally have any Bud Light stock either, although it might be present in one of the ETF's that I own. I do have Lockheed-Martin which will go up as the weapons of war are replenished.
Sherrel - That plate of liver & onions looks great.
Hughie - Condolences on the loss of your BIL.
Tom O - That's strange that the generator was vandalized and not stolen outright.
Curt - Yes, trees and bushes are all that I intend to add, although a small amount of additional paper litter might make it as well.

Looks like Patrick confirmed my thought regarding the thunderstorms.
Everybody have a great day.
They only took the starter. At about 500#s and under the back deck they would have been seen by someone trying to take the whole thing since it is bolted down. It definitely happened between Saturday and Tuesday. Terry’s app shows it was last self tested on Saturday at 9AM. 2 neighbors have security cameras as does the apartment complex across the street. The police talked to all 3 and hope to have some video to look at today. I am waiting for the electrician to let me know when he can get the parts and repair it.

Good morning. The morning fog is fading as the sun gets going. Predicted high temperature 87° with a light SE wind. Another round of sporadic T-Storms beginning Saturday, through Monday.

The O's pulled it out - good news.

Nice surprise, Karl. Four is better than three.

I am in the process of changing out freight cars and Cabins from circa 1966 to 1973, which means fewer steam era cars and more newer / larger cars. I'm really surprised how many Blue Box cars I have in storage, including some kits never assembled.

Today, we pick up the expensive prescription(s).

Blast from the past. Roger Puta's photo invokes memories of the New Haven, in 1965. The Merchant's Limited preparing to depart from South Station, Boston.

Later!

Boris FL-9's 60 of the worse engines ever built. Able to run on diesel or 3rd rail electric. You can see the 3rd rail shoe apparatus attached to the red insulated wood beam on the front truck. I still remember the day a North White Plains electrician tied a broken shoe to the engine ladder. I said and when we enter 3rd rail territory in a few yards what happens to the 660 volts 1500 amps. Will I be able to get off the engine? He just looked at me.

Found a metered spot only 3 blocks away from the pizza place. Almost right in front of another (by-the-slice NY style) pizza place... and had to walk by the back of the building where a third pizza joint was in our quest for good Detroit-style pie

Here's the pie:

It was yummm! And I have two slices for left-overs tonight.

When I flowed over to Amtrak in 1988, I had to attend mandatory AmTraining at Wilmington Shops. There were still a pair of FL9s there, undergoing overhaul. They were in work train service. 3rd Rail shoes had been removed.
Living on Long Island at the time i remember Amtrak transfering all operations from Grand Central Terminal to Penn Station (1990 i think?). Took as many trips to Sunnyside Yard and Penn Station as a could on my meager McDonalds salary;) or rode my bike if i had all day. In early 90s all Amtrak conventional trains were pulled by FL9s from Albany. Pretty interesting times as in addition to that ROHR turboliners were also coming in to Penn Station. FL9s lasted like that at least into 1993. The lineup at ready tracks on Sunnyside was interesting too, with AEM7, E60, NJ Transit ALP44 and FL9, Turbos and several silver and black diesels doing switching. A few "Pumpkin" orange Geeps were still around.

Did you consider that some of us might be hungry?😡😉

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at 77F and humid and you guessed it, it will get above 100F in feel like temps. I did several indoor chores and in fact have not been outside since the walk. Later the extended family is meeting for supper to celebrate oldest grandson's 18th birthday. Tomorrow is routine pool maintenance.

Louis- That bus brings back memories.

Joe- Interesting PL signal. Any reason for the time frame change? RIP to the 2 FF's and condolences to their families.

Sherrel- Thanks for the info on Phil and Deb. Gran Torino is a great movie.

Karl- Congrats on your hopper find.

TomO- That's a damn shame about your granddaughter. The MIL is unbelievable.

Jeff- It sounds like a tough situation. MOH's parents passed away when she was young, so I never met them.

Guy- Very nice garden. It gives off a Japanese Zen kind of feel. We don't see very many hummingbirds here. Have you read my posts, they're about as simple minded as it gets.

Willie- Nice scenes.

Hughie- Condolences on the loss of your BIL. Somehow, I missed you posting about him.

Troy- Happy Birthday 🎂.

Mac- Very cool photos. Can you get inside the RH? I can see Walther's inspiration for their RH kit.

:D It's finally raining here.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I have been inside well over 10 years ago, but the place sat dormant at the time. There is some kind of excavation company on the premises. Even though most of their equipment is west of main locomotive shop, i did not attempt it this time. Maybe asking during the work week would do the trick, i was there on weekend and place seemed deserted.
One interesting thing about this particular is that is sports concrete roof:

Not sure what kind of roof Walters has.

Good afternoon.

I'm very happy to report the ghost issue job has been successfully conquered. Cash in my pocket to splurge on something useful, like hobby train stuff.

Guy- Very nice garden. It gives off a Japanese Zen kind of feel.
Curt - That actually makes sense. It's probably because my wife is Asian.
It's nice to just sit out there with a cold drink. There are no problems out there.

I stopped off at the CN yard when I went down to do the job. Something is happening. There's a pack of at least 6 engines, with two more gone over to the staging area. Plus, some varied equipment at work.:

Kriegslok - Great bunch of photos you've been posting. Well done, indeed!

Troy - We don't eat pizza, due to the wife's dislike of it. When they bring pizza into her work on special days, they have to bring in a steak for her.

Louis - I still remember the original Batman. Zonk, Pow! It was one of my favorite shows as a child watching b&w TV.

Have a good evening! I'm on my own time for a super long weekend!

Curt: The primary reason would be to incorporate some of my 70s era rolling stock in a time frame where older cars were still meaningful. My layout can handle about 115 revenue cars before it is overwhelmed. I have a lot of neat stuff from the later era, that needs to see the light of the train room, including a group that remains to be built.

Thank you for the condolences. I worked with the Newark FD when I worked in Risk Management / Safety. Conrail has quite an operation at Port Newark / Port Elizabeth, and Bayonne, (former MOT).
As you know, Ship fires are scary and dangerous. The vessel has container space fore, and 12 deck levels for auto transport aft. They were in the process of loading export vehicles destined for West Africa, via RO Ro,when the fire broke out yesterday evening, among the export vehicles. It quickly got away from the Port Authority Fire Brigade, and Newark came in to a bad situation.
Five other members were injured

Boris FL-9's were the worst riding engines ever. I don't know if it was the 2 wheel trucks on the front and 3 wheel trucks on the rear or what. On turns it felt like they were going to derail. E8's were just the opposite. Like riding in a Cadillac.
