I would have thought Kershaw had started more then one All Star game by now!!!
I have yet to watch the game.
The problem in the All Star game is like any other start. No pitcher always has his best stuff. Location is that most important thing for any pitcher. If you leave pitches out over the middle your only hope is it sneaks past the hitter. Not much chance of that happening in the All Star game.
In past years, the ASG manager decided the lineup card, including which pitcher was starting. When Bochy & LaRussa/Matheny was the manager, they chose their own pitcher over Kershaw, even in his CY Young & MVP seasons.

You will love the Samsung S22.......Last year 2021 I got the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G (big phone but has a stylist pen too) because of the camera system AND this was the last year Samsung would use the Micro SD cards. I love the bigger screen and I put it in a Otter Box system with a belt clip. I chose this also as they were having a burn sale on the old models from 2020. I put a PNY High Speed 1TB Micro Sd Memory Card in the phone and to say the least it runs great and I will not run out of space for a while.....

I am not a huge fan of "cloud" systems as I know everyone uses it but I prefer not to. I do have my own cloud system at home on my home server via WiFi that is for personal use and pswd protected etc. It is on a closed network and not tied to the outside world.
Thanks for reassuring me I made a good choice. The S22 Ultra also has a stylus. Although I'm not really sure what I will use it for.

Sounds like a nice setup. Using the Microsoft cloud is convenient for a lot of people. I chose to do a home made closed circuit system at home using WiFi for the offline server within my home. That server/data storage is not connected to the internet outside of my home. I can access it with my Desktop and laptop via WiFi also with my phone to dump pictures etc. I just choose not to have my pics on the "cloud" world wide web. I use Seagate and Western Digital. I just buy the most for the money per TB etc.

I have heard a lot people really like using it especially photographers now that a lot of the pro style cameras (Nikon/Canon) have built in bluetooth and WiFi etc.
My son recommended Crucial SSDs. He explained the reasoning. To be honest I just took his word for it.
Before that I always preferred Western Digital or Seagate. I bought and sold hundreds of each when I was building and selling my brand of computers. They seldom if ever failed me!
I last sold a computer nearly 20 years ago. In those years since I have not stayed current with the technology.

Photos and I have never gotten along. If I remember to take the photo chances are it won't be of good quality. My son bought me a wireless top of the line camera. I found the app to be troublesome and gave up on it.
I'm hoping I will do better with the new phone.

These days the thing I find in short supply is time. I also don't have much energy. What little of both I do have I spend at least half of trying to be active. I can take any short cuts with that. I tend to find the quick and easy path for most everything else. Like the Microsoft cloud.

I will look into that PC Magazine article. I use to be a subscriber, but that was long ago as well. It was a great resource. I doubt things have changed.

I greatly appreciate that you took the time to share your knowledge and experience with me, thank you!

Morning all,

Well yesterday was a cool 99° as we had clouds that moved in. Currently 79° and supposed to be 102° and sunny later. Heat wave may be over by the middle of next week.
Off 3 days next week, 2 to watch the kid's dogs and the 3rd because the wife is off.

Trash day today, so I gotta get the trash to the curb. Already gathered, so it's just a matter moving it to the curb.

Good morning all! 70 degrees heading for a hot and humid 90 with a heat index of 99. Supposed to be hot a couple more days and then we'll get a break from the heat next week.

Busy week at work. Trying to get all the summer projects wrapped up before the Fall semester begins. Getting a lot done but also suffering from lack of materials like everyone else seems to be these days. Needing to order some specific cable raceways and they are out of stock and expected to remain so for weeks ahead. Looking for alternatives.

My wife has been staying pretty busy with her canning supplies. She enlisted two of the grandkids to help cut up cucumbers for pickles and they did a great job. She's been canning a lot of other things too.

Last week of my class begins tomorrow morning. Got signed up for two classes yesterday for the upcoming Fall semester. Hoping I'm not taking on too much by doing two classes but we'll see. Nothing much else going on. Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning!

Busy but rewarding week. Not much train time until last night. My meeting (18-2030) ended early and I was home before 8! Beat the wife home from her meeting, so went down for some painting on the TT bridge.

Awoken by the dogs at 0400 this morning and could not get back to sleep. Lots on my mind, so might as well get up at 0530 and get some things done. Now 0600 and have a half-hour to kill before reveille! Out to play golf this morning at the tried and true course. Should score around 90 +/- 2. Maybe?????

Vexing electrical problem. Downstairs recessed lights are split into two zones. One, which is also controlled by a switch upstairs, has stopped working. Weird. I didn't have a lot of time yesterday, but did pull the switch covers and look at the switches. Nothing obvious and the MM shows the switches are working, best I can tell. Tomorrow will be troubleshooting that. May have to call an electrician, egads. I might go ahead and replace the dimmer switch, just in case.

That's about all. Blessings on your day, Steve J

Well Bruette, society started down the path of me ism decades ago and there's no turning back now. It's ingrained in our system and personal characters. Some have a lot of it while others have a little. I think it's moved from the personal level to a codified level where people are entitled to be that way and the law will protect those who go to the extreme against others.

Well, howdy there all of you hot internet MRR peeps

It's Troy again

Mom's new walk-in tub. She can take her shower Saturday night.

tub.jpg

No showers til Saturday evening, while the fiberglass and sealant cure.

It's a narrower opening than I anticpated. But, this guy is the only one approved by the facility. So we get what they offer.

Back to writing today. I owe myself at least two chapters. We'll see how I do...

Good Morning All. Clear and 78°, a little cooler than the last few days. Back to 102° today after a high yesterday of only 96°. Triple digits are in the forecast for the next 7 days and then possibly some minor relief. Meanwhile the pool has cooled to 87° due to the longer nights, cloudy day and my umbrella[?].

The weekly grocery trek went as planned yesterday, except prices are noticeably higher on meat, dairy products and produce. Fuel is down to $3.69/gal in many places, thank you Joe! Wife wasn't feeling well so she stayed home and I only had to make two stops.

Thanks for the comments and reactions regarding my layout progress from yesterday; Smudge, Patrick, Guy, Chad, Karl, Hughie, Dave B, Louis, Curt, Steve J, Tom, Tom O, Rick, Sherrel, Mikey, OB Ken, Gary.

I did not visit the train shed yesterday, but engaged in outdoor activities since it was so much cooler. I don't have any significant pictures from the archives to post. But I will show some sweeping vistas of rail that I have.

OB Ken - I was never able to get the hang of making pickles. They were always too mushy for me.
Tom O - That's quite an adventurous day.

I never watched baseball or the ASG, I don't believe in the cloud, and I have never ridden a train other than the subways; so I cannot comment on any other posts from the last couple of days!
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning,

A mild 62° at 5 am when I got up. Supposed to hit 82 with higher humidity. You guys with the extreme heat, sounds like it is moving east so relief in sight but I am already concerned about the east coast getting hit with it. Stay safe and stay hydrated if much time spent outdoors.

Troy - I have never seen a tub alteration like that! When I worked at a retirement community we made them put in a tile shower arrangement, if recommended by the physician, removing the old tub altogether. We did it as part of an ongoing upgrade program so no cost to seniors.

Steve - glad your meeting (s) went well. Happy golfing!

Louis - do the right thing? Nowadays there seems to be numerous definitions of what is right.

Willie - nice pics!! We are both typing at the same time today. Looks like a golfer in the second one?

I worked on one of my old Varney locos last night. Got it working, went around the track several times. A couple places where the tender wants to come off, will be putting some weight in it. It is a noisy beast, probably be able to pull a real freight car it is so heavy. When that loco was new must have been relatively expensive, has quite the elaborate details around the drivers, all operating.

Will be making a video of it. Will be looking for an easy editing package, the one I used to use is no longer available, and the one with Windows 10 is kind of a joke.

THANKS to all who watched my videos!!! You will find absolutely no B.S. in them, no fluff. Just the show.

Looking forward to a weekend with several hours in the train room!

more later, Dave LASM

Good Morning!

The forest fires are burning. There's a dangerous fire in the Nordegg area, about 1hr south of where we were fishing. The town of Nordegg is currently on a 2hr evacuation alert. - I hope they put it out before it burns out my fishing hole.

I was up and out at 5am to try and get a better photo of the Humming birds. One came around a few times, but, wouldn't get near the spot I was pre-focused on. I'm trying to get a shot of it showing it's back.
Last evening, I did get a good enough photo that made it possible to identify the bird as a female Ruby-Throated. This is one of five photos I was able to secure:

I'll spend some time today trying to get better photos. There's also a Calliope coming around, but, I'm not lucky with that one yet. It's hard to take good photos of Hummingbirds, but, the attempt is quickly becoming a 2nd hobby.

I also intend to get some modelling time in today. The layout isn't moving along very quick. But, the wife is at work for the next 3 days, so perhaps I can get something done. One of the problems is that, every time she walks out the door, she blaps off a list of things to do.

Here's some photos of a centre-beam flat that was all alone and empty. I like the blue ones better. those arn't as new and unscathed:

Not going to spend a-lot of time on the PC today, but, I do hope you all have a great day.
Have a good one!

Just set up some sort of off site backup as well. (Which could be having a few WiFi that you sync together and rotate in and out. That was if your house burns down you still have a recent set of data.

Morning gang!

Willie- Nice pics from your layout!

Guy- I love seeing your prototype pictures of the rolling stock from your neck of the woods! That WC lumber center beam is nice!

Dave- I used to have a bunch of old brass Varney tenders and locos and a few cars but I sold them all to a guy in California. He was a real brass enthusiast. He restored all types of brass to its former glory and well never paints them that I knew of. He kept them all in brass scheme and they were just polished up all shiny! He has an incredible collection.

TomO- Quite an adventure you are having! Those cars you got from Walthers are actually really nice! I have 6 of them and love them! Not bad for the money and details at all. I did post some of mine on the RPO thread a while back.

Louis- Your welcome? I do not claim to be an expert in tech but I kinda know enough to do some simple tasks and then get into trouble lol then call for help lol. I do love my camera phone it does an awesome job. As for the stylus pen....you would be surprised how often I use mine. I have fat fingers and thumbs so having that is great! I also like chicken scratching my notes on the note pad for measuring projects etc and taking "reminder notes".

Happy Friday everyone! My sisters friend came in last night from Wisconsin and 2 other people that are friends came in from the UK as well. We have got a full house at the lake house this weekend! I will be up there this late afternoon and then out on the boat tomorrow morning to try to get some fishing in before the company ask for boat rides etc. Our family has 4 boats my fishing boat included. We will probably go out on our Sea Ray SLX 400 for they late afternoon evening cruise. Everyone likes that. My wallet doesn't lol. Twin MerCruiser 8.2L MAG HO Bravo Three X SeaCore with Axius Propulsion (T-430 hp / 321 kW) kinda gobbles gas on a 70 mile round trip but it is enjoyable. Then late at night an evening cruise in our 1989 Elco 30 launch it's an electric, picnic style boat -classified as a harbor cruiser. We usually go in the evening after sunset due to less boat traffic and more enjoyable breeze coming down off the mountains. My dad has a McGreggor M21 sailboat, his pride and joy as he got it when he retired. Most of our company do not like the slow leisure of sailboats. They want a cruise in power boats etc.

Anyways weather wise it's looking hot. 89 late thunderstorms today, 91 tomorrow, 92 Sunday and Monday 84...... My sister and friends will be going to the clubhouse at the track today. The Saratoga Springs Horse Track betting on horses......not me I like my money in my pocket lol. Hopefully they win some $$. I have never been much in for gambling at all but it is nice to go once in a blue moon for fun. It is just not me though. Fun entertainment for the guest though.

Well that's it for now. I did get some more 2 bay covered hoppers in yesterday and have a few more coming today and tomorrow. My Aggregate and cement company on the layout will have enough hoppers after this round of bids from evil bay.

Ya'll have a goodun! ;)

Good morning.

James, the Walther cars were at $33+ each and I have been looking for awhile. It was a better price then the LHS or my favorite online places plus it gave me an opportunity to get back to see Walthers. The showroom though IMO seemed dark and dingy. But the service and staff were more then excellent.

3 cars sold, I sold Wednesday night the cars and the payment was in PayPal when I woke Thursday morning. That is another reason why I came home, I need to pack and ship them today

the boat, Terry will get a ride home tomorrow from her youngest brother tomorrow as he is heading to a meeting in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Her other 2 brothers could not meet with her for dinner so no need for me to travel east again. They, (Terry and Pat and now the little bro) will be salmon fishing today and I don’t enjoy being on the big lake watching someone else fish. I don’t like the rule Pat has on her boat, if you swim you must wear the life jacket. But it makes sense and it gives her piece of mind. It’s just not comfortable.

Health, this past 10 days is by far the best I have felt since before the Covid appeared in 3/2020. My 5 hours in Urgent Care must have cleaned me out a couple weekends ago. Things just feel good and right again.Terry thinks I should call the Oncologist and see if my radiation treatments, now scheduled to start in August, are still necessary and not just my medical team be extra cautious.

enjoy the day
