When I was seven years old, my family moved from Brooklyn NY to New Orleans LA. I definitely thought that I was in another country! Totally different languages in the same country.o_O 18 months later we moved to Dallas TX, and I had to learn a third language. This was in 1961 before Dallas became a more international urbanized cesspool. They still spoke "Texan" then.
Did ya speak Cajun Man language?

If you ever watched the sitcom "Frasier", Daphney (from the UK in the show) does something called an "American Accent" and I think that will answer your question.

I think what us Midwesterners use day to day what is thought of as an American accent. While visiting Carbon, Indiana, some of the older folks could not understand me from Minnesota. And visa versa.
What's interesting about that Minnesota vs Indiana.... both are parts of the "Midwest"

We in Indiana are the Lower Eastern, not the upper western part of the midwest.

And, in Indiana we get a Michiana, a central Indiana, and southern midwest dialects.

Kinda Like Trying to parse the various dialects in the UK... I've got a friend in Black Country and he writes his dialect differently than my friends in other parts of the Midlands do.

Worked for a company in Houston that was based in Aberdeen Scotland. 'nuff said on the whole accent issue.

Great News ! ! ! ! Wifeykins got the promotion! No longer CEO of an Ambulatory surgery Center. Now a regional Director of Operations. Meaning she now is over FOUR ASCs. Not a bad little bump, either. I am such a "kept" man!!!! She is an amazing woman and I am damn lucky to be riding along with her. She could do so much better, to be sure! Very proud of her!

Congratulations to you both.

Today is National New Jersey Day. Why???
Everybody have a great day.
What gets confusing with the texts will be that I married a girl with the same first name as my mother. Which one of them is this text about????
Cool temps for this week… highs in the 70’s all week.
Willie- I lived there 42 years & I agree. Why?
Patrick- wasn’t the Dr. Demento Show where WAY got his start in comedy?
Troy- my mom is one of 13, but none of her siblings married someone with the same name as one of their siblings(but my mom’s sister did name her youngest after her grandpa, father and/or brother) or my grandparents. However, my generation has duplicated(by either marriage or the next generation) the names Leroy(my cousin is a IV & he passed the name to his son), Robert(plus my youngest aunt’s 2nd husband is a Bob, as was my father), Joseph & Daniel. Weird.

Good to hear you are happy about that.

My wife retired 10 years ago at age 56 and I have a full time assistant/cook/housekeeper/errand runner/mate.

Wasn't my idea but works for us!

Dave- that’s what I enjoyed about my previous employment. I got to talk to people all across the U.S. & listen to the various accents(both regional ones as well as immigrants).

Afternoon All,

Finished up the shower today 👍. Got everything cleaned up and put away. I recieved a pleasant surprise a little bit ago. I ordered 2 Bowser Pennsy CK H21a's for a total of $30. I thought I was ordering kits at that cost. When they showed up today imagine my surprise to find they are actually Bowser Executive Line RTR hoppers! I checked and the seller doesn't have any more-darn it! They are pretty much 1/2 price and that's with shipping. Tomorrow I think we're going to daughter's school to help set up her classroom.

Sherrel- What a cool idea.

TomO- Great job on the gondola.

Ken (IL)-It's nice to see a boss that appreciates their workers.

Ken (D&J)- Have a safe and fun trip.

Dave- Nice layout shot. I remember going to a Billy Joel concert in 76 or 77 in Mobile, AL. It was in a orchestra venue and was only about 50% full. The only song I recognized was Piano Man. I went with a friend who wanted to see him.

Jazz- Nice collection of elephants.

Smudge- What does LNER stand for and why is it in Santa Fe territory?

Steve- Congrats on your wife's promotion. More train money?😂

I hope everyone has a good night.

Definitely agree that Southern Lake States(Lower MI, IN, OH & Northern IL) have a totally different accent than the Upper Midwest(Dakotas, MN & Iowa). The Badger State has Wisconsinese & the Upper Peninsula of MI has the Yoopers, which are a different dialect from WI.

BANG BANG Tap Tap Tapity Tap

I heard from my writing cave in the basement.

Wife sure is being noisy. Thought she was working. Better go check on her.

Got upstairs and realized I had another infestation.

A flight of Amish Woodpeckers has descended on our condo.

The window t the far right, upper story has the new faux-cedar siding. The wall immediately left of that has the old.

the woodpecker crew are putting up the faux wood trim, then the siding. Not sure if they'll get to the siding today. It's about quitting time. More woodpeckering tomorrow.

FYI: our unit is the one beginning to the left of the long row of bushes. The two-light upper story window above the yellow ladder is the master bed. The bulbous shrub to the left of the Grey-backed woodpecker is the other side of our unit.

We have Amish craftsmen in our neck of the woods as well. I drive by some of their farms on one of my routes, I love seeing them out working with the horses,

this summer I caught a view of them them cutting hay with 2 beautiful dk. browns, huge horses, and a rather slender young man on the horse mower with the reigns.

I have a neighbor who has a tree service. He specializes in harvesting trees using draft horses. He does a lot of work up in Amish Country in NE Ohio. He recently rescued (stole) a over... ahem... used female dog from an Amish puppy mill. He's a pretty cool dude.

And a good afternoon to each and every one of you. Been busy chasing down car insurance quotes. It amazes me just how wide of a spread there is for the exact same coverage. It looks like I'll save $300 switching.

Accents - I was once told, I don't remember by whom, that if you took a representative for each accent in the US, the only person that would be understood by everyone there would be a New Yorker. No not from Brooklyn or Queens but Manhattan. Not sure how true that might be. I myself pick up a local accent within 2 or 3 weeks. Imagine my parents listening to me after I'd been in Texas 18 months. "Sure nough"

Moermusic - belated condolences. Losing Mom hits us a special place.
Smudge - Your RR, so switch tracks can lead anywhere your imagination wants.

Got a new project in the mail today.

True, I just needed a break from track laying and finished working on the steamer, I needed to do a test run, not only of the steamer, but the track I've be re laying, and decided to add a couple of freight cars that I'd also done some maintenance on and took a foto. :) The 0-6-0 is one of only two British engines so far, that I've fitted with Kadee's.

What I did notice in the foto, that if it wasn't for the signage, it's hard to make out that it's a OO scale loco with HO scale hoppers, or at least to me it is.
