Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who gave up fighting Big Tech

It's Troy again.

Yep, I've got IOS 26.1. I actually like the conveniences of it. Liquid glass look takes a day to get used to. I like the facial rec features better than the thumbprint detector on my older iPad.

Still working on getting book covers swapped and uploaded. Two more to go with The Big River store, and the "distributor" to the others. Then I have all 11 books to start over with on Lulu's store. But that may be a two day process instead of a four day.

My problem with just banging them out is checking the PDF online to make sure there are no errors in transmission. I'm uploading a fresh copy of the book innards as well as the cover. So I try to hit four or five random spots in each upload. But then I start reading the stories again.

Got stuck on book 7 yesterday when I spotted a typo. "burbs" instead of "burps" and I'd already read a full chapter. So I had to go back to the original, find and fix that spot, then read another two chapters "just to be sure" (and remember the big battle.

Orkin is coming out this month. This may be my last treatment. I think we started in March of last year. So I have to figure out how to keep their service from renewing.

So far, the new phone seems to be working better, or at least faster, tne the old one, in spite of the fact it has a lesser processor and less onboard RAM. My theory is, since the phone isn’t Apple Intelligence compatible, it’s not spending time sending everything to the cloud for processing, it’s doing everything on-device. It also cost half as much as the previous phone.

Morning ladies and gents

Having coffee out of my favorite cup this morning… reminds me that God is greater than our ups and downs

Favorite knife pictured (actually a multi-tool called a Skeletool). The knife lockbacks on this tool… making it better (safer) to work with IMHO

Have a blessed day… off to the my favorite model train store at midday (picking up a new locomotive and some rolling stock and misc items too). Going to be an expensive day!

Good morning all!

Our warm-up begins today. Currently 30F with an expected high of 45F under partly sunny skies. I see the future cast has several
days in the low to mid 50s. Shorts weather in the Midwest.

Yesterday we were away all day at my daughters travel volleyball tournament. It was a long day at almost 13 hours with travel time.
The girls did phenomenal in their 5 games. They went 4-1. We dont have another tournament till the last week of January, so a couple
of week break from that.

Back to reality for my daughter, she starts back to school today after having almost 3 weeks off.

Usual household chores and routine start back up today.

Have a safe day everyone!

I'm one of those "retired photographers" who use my iPhone instead of my Canon for shooting now.

I've been playing with generative AI for making book covers, but I haven't kept up on how AI is affecting the photography industry at all...

I've lost touch with the "professional" end of photography.

I knew AI was impacting it, but this vid blew me away on how Photogs are already using generative fill, and a lot of other AI tools in the profession.

This vid is a good, somewhat deep, look at how AI is affecting various types of professional photography.

Worth the 18 mins to watch:

Been there once, good place

Morning all,

38° and clear, but I ran through patches of dense fog on my way into the office this morning. High later of 66°

Willie: Happy Belated. Sounds like you had a good day.

Not much yet happening. Have 3 new city council members coming in to setup their city email. Shouldn't take long.

Try to BBL

Welcome to the “we are in charge” era! Mother Nature is having her way in Wisconsin again. I think there are 4 weather patterns going on across the state. Here it’s 29f degrees and a light mist in the air making the roads greasy!

I am heading out to cut lumber on the layout the swing bridge is home to. He’s having a full blown work session Wednesday and l’ll cut lumber for his frames today. He’ll glue, clamp, staple and screw them together today and tomorrow. When the crew gets there Wednesday they can hop right into installation of these puzzle pieces. This is a mushroom type layout construction and honestly until I get to run trains on it, I’m totally lost. This should finish off 3 levels of the nolix peninsula.

Only 2.25 hours for me as I need to be home for Terry! But it’s efficient time and really will help for the 2 crews on Wednesday. I’m not sure I can go Wednesday as life is interfering.

There will be some bench time after lunch today and a needed look into my Roomba robot vacuum Rosie as she’s no longer holding to the cleaning plan.

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Clear and 46°, back into the mid-70's today. NWS is slowly backing off their forecast of rain Wednesday night; now down to 40% and starting Thursday instead. Temperatures still in the 70's all week.

Feel good this morning after sleeping in, for 7.5 hours last night. First time in a long time. And only one bathroom break! Could be a high energy day coming up. I have a few suggestions from my wife and a few ideas of my own that I'll sort through in a while. Probably get half and half done. A lot of free time coming up; except for the weekly grocery trek, we have absolutely nothing on the calendar for the next two weeks.

I did mostly nothing yesterday but relax. I did spend about an hour finally getting caught up with the maintenance entries in the freight car database. I now need to either transfer it over to the laptop, or figure out how to make entries from the train shed into the desktop via the now extended wifi system. I know that it can be done, but figuring out how will take some time.

Speaking of the train shed, yesterday I finished moving the trains back into the staging yard. As hoped, I backed whole trains all of the way, some as much as 165' and found no trackwork issues. I did snag a dangling coupler on a switch along the way, and had to remove and replace it; as it was one of the still remaining EZ scale couplers that have plastic shafts. It broke. Afterwards I visually inspected the ROW for the next section of main line and the passing siding for loose parts. Also inspected the interchange tracks, but I have not gotten to all of the industry tracks yet. I cleaned some track, but I had already done the main before I moved anything out of the staging yard last week. I already spotted a few structures that I intend to upgrade this time around.

Mikey - While I love painting figures, I can rarely go for more than an hour at a time, which is why I just paint two or three colors at a time on a half dozen figures at a time.
John - They have some nice vehicles on Diecast Direct and Showcase Miniatures, But I need about 50 more and those are a bit pricey. Diecast has Oxford vehicles for 35% more than I can get them from Discount.
Have you looked into tankless water heaters?
Kusojiji - Sometimes I feel like it's the year of the dragging. Oh wait! You said Dragon!
Tom O - Rosie is giving us fits also. She's just not as reliable as Hazel was.
Mushroom layouts always intrigued me, but in the end, I decided to forgo it because I didn't want to spend a lifetime figuring it out and constructing it.

I am now 74 years and one day old. Still don't feel any older.
Everyone have a good Monday if there is such a thing for those still working.

I built an StG.58 with a Mannlicher barrel on an Imbel receiver back about '01. The metal parts in the kit still had the original finish and I didn't touch it except to match the receiver paint. Brownell's came through with that. This was a very accurate rifle. I hung on to it for about 15 years before selling it on GB for my PTR91. I don't really miss it too much except for the fact I built it myself. I couldn't do that with an HK type rifle.

I really love my roller locked rifle more.

SICK!

Good morning all. 39°F this morning heading for 60°F, and for the next four days too. I guess January is taking a week off this year. Since I'm retired now and don't have to drive in it any longer, I'm hoping we get some snow soon. I miss seeing it this time of year. 6" to 8" would be a good start, but we haven't really seen those kinds of amounts since the 70s and early 80s around here. It's usually a paltry 2"-4" at a time, and melts off within a few days.

Nothing planned for this Monday. Might visit the train room or play piano today. I've been slacking a little on the piano lately and focusing on guitar.

Hope you all have a great week! Servus!

Here's the 2 new listings that went live yesterday. I guess there is a demand for the M1.

I still think this one will close about twice where it's at now, on this coming Sunday. If I was still into collecting I would have been aggressively bidding for it.

I'd sure like to know what interest HK had in these shotguns. Did they help with the design? All of those proof marks are Italian on the lower angle of the receiver. I recognized that immediately when I looked at the listing. A guy that worked for me at a local shooting range bought one of those. It's quite a shoulder-full to fire. Maybe HK made the barrel and the proof marks are on the bottom where they can't be seen without disassembly. ???
