Good morning diner dwellers.

Congrats DAVID on 48 years. We are working on year 49 of wedded bliss and 52 together.

So. Central Wisconsin weather has the temperature at 8f degrees going to 30 and winds should be calm all day. Cooler actual temperatures than yesterday but with calm winds it will definitely feel better.

Yesterday we sheltered in place as neither of us but mainly me were feeling very good. I feel fine this morning. Depending on how Terry feels we may head to campus for Women’s hockey at 4pm and dinner out. Not sure.

I ordered charging ports for the cell phones I use as WiFi throttles on the layout. 2 for in the fascia and I will be creating a charging station for the phones, a wireless soldering iron/pencil and wireless vacuums. Lots of little things to do on the layout and 1 biggie!

I had a derailment spot. Good, bad or however the cars rolled occasionally they would derail. Fought this spot for a while and with a full blown operating session coming up, bit the bullet to renovate. What I thought would be an overnight job has now reached into 4 work sessions on it. Taking the rail off was easy, but that’s when I found the problem wasn’t solved just by relaying the rail. Had to take it down to pink earth.

I have 10 box cars of a friend, he models the GN in 1965. He is one of the 2 guys who mostly does the driving to operating sessions. Neither will take money for gas nor allow me to buy lunch in thanks. But I can still weather. I took the wheels and trucks off the 10 cars yesterday morning and weathered them up. I will look at them this afternoon. This is a project to do whenever with no due date.

Sometime today I have a call with a member of the operating group I belong to. He wants some weathering advice…

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Cloudy, foggy and 44°. Cold front predicted for last night hasn't made it yet, or maybe it has but isn't as severe as they were predicting. High today is expected to be 48°. Torrential rains have been added to the Wednesday/Thursday forecast with highs in the 60's.

The lumberjack crew showed up yesterday, but without the chipper/shredder; the most important thing. It broke down when they were testing it last week and had to have it repaired. We've rescheduled for Monday.
Today is the last day for the topical application of some dermatological creams for me. I go in tomorrow morning to have all residues scrubbed. I think that some skin comes off during the process. I'm looking forward to getting back to work outdoors. I am supposed to avoid direct sunlight during the treatment and I hate that. I look like a Beet right now.

I was able to install 8 more ground throws yesterday out in the train shed. I'm about 1/3 of the way through the project. To break the boredom and also to get off my feet a bit, I started on the DPM Landmark Series kit that I bought at the train show last week, Live Wire Manufacturing.

I only read through the instructions, checked off the parts and planned my painting scheme. If you have never built one of their Landmark Series kits, they are especially nice. I have done three prior to this one. Lot's of parts and details. Picture below is from their website.

There's at least 80 parts including 10 walls. This will be a bitch to paint though; should keep me occupied for some time.
Snap-together fit although they recommend adding glue which I also recommend. This was a real bargain, it came from a dealer who specializes in estate sales. On DPM's website, they go for $78, I paid $25.
Returning to the TNMRC layout for a few more pictures. The steel mill that I have been showing takes up an entire corner of the layout, but there is a triangular area on the corner that they have nicely decorated to resemble a mobile home community.

I like to include mini-scenes like this one on my layout, although not in the size that they are able.

Len - Interesting that you brought up The Devil's Bowl. The original site was close to where I lived when going to high school. We used to ride our bikes over and we got in free because we knew someone at the gate. Fun times. New location was closed in 2023.
Tom (Cambria) - Nice use of discarded stuff. The coils look like the real thing.
Louis - No shoot zones???
David - Congratulations to you and Dawn.

Today is the late Eddie Van Halen's birthday. He would have been 69. Hockey great Wayne Gretzky is 64 today.

Everyone have a superb Sunday today.

Congratulations to Dawn and you on the upcoming anniversary.

A toast to many more!

We met in January. Travelling to see each other was a bind for both of us. I asked her to marry me in March. October we married. All in less than a year. My soul mate. We did more travelling around Europe before our son was born two years later. Then our daughter arrived to complete our family.

Our daughter is a 'traveller' like me. She is in Canada at present.

Congratulations, you both beat the odds. One of my uncles in Poland and his wife met and got married in similar circumstances and they are probably the most content couple i know. Unfortunately for most who rush it doesn't work that way.

Piggy back may have dwindled, but look at some of the CSX videos that afleetcommand posts on the forum of current trains. There's still quite a bit. Maybe 15%-20% have piggybacks included in container trains.

Thinking about this thread, I recall that Chessie and CSX pioneered double stacks in the East, coming out of Port Newark, NJ to Little Ferry, NJ on the Susquehanna (NYS&W) - Delaware Ostego System to Binghamton NY and West via the Southern Tier (EL), sometime around 1986. The First Land Bridge. The NYS&W Paralleled the CR River line from Jersey City to CP-5 (Ridgefield Park). When CR established coast to coast land bridge TVLA with The ATSF, Cabin Cars and Power were run through and standard TTX flats . That was 1988.

Good morning, all! The cold weather has moved on for now. We could be bumping near 70 by next weekend. Today, however, has a 90% chance of rain, some heavy with potential street flooding.

David - congratulations to you and Dawn. (question, do you ever try to sing like Frankie Valli?)
Louis - I'm glad I'm not the only one, "shoot zone"? Orange vests, doe tags, season limits?

STAY SAFE
LATER
