santafewillie said............Train show in Plano yesterday was good. It was not nearly as crowded as ones that I have attended in the past. There were more vendors but less exhibition layouts. I did get the opportunity to meet up with Westexjohn again and we had a good conversation before going our separate ways to explore the place.
What Willie said pretty much sums up the Plano train show. I enjoyed having a face to face conversation with another forum member. Willie offered to take a photo of me and post it on the forum. I told him the forum would most likely ban him for that.
I did get a deal on a couple of Spectrum steam tenders and some rolling stock. I went looking for a Walthers, platinum series CB&Q caboose ; a Bowser AS-616 in Union Pacific livery and a Rivarossi 60 foot passenger car in UP two tone gray but had no luck on locating any of those three items. But it was good to get away from west Texas for a while and enjoy the hobby.
Cold here for the next three days but no snow or ice. Looking forward to Spring.
I just can get away from the 50-60s it’s the era I like the most and I have several of HO Rolling Stock, Buildings and Engines. I don’t have to buy the stuff so why not use it. Glad I bought this stuff years ago so now at this point in my life I can enjoy it with spending any money on it.
I worked yesterday, so I slept in til almost noon! I had to. I stayed over an hour just to get a promised job out the door and damn near knocked my lights out under the front end alignment machine. All this while the sales staff tried to pack the shop with new cars so they wouldn't have to clean them off tomorrow. They almost blocked up in the shop until I threatened them with bodily harm if they did so. You should have seen them scatter like cockroaches! Mandatory stop at the liquor store after work!
Got the laundry almost done while playing in the basement. I managed to repair 2 turnouts, cut a gaping hole in the benchwork for the new bridge, installed new bridge, and laid about 20 ft of mainline. It's snowing outside so I'm waiting for it to stop (they say 7 p.m.) before I fire up the Cub and clear the driveway. All this while listening to mx 60s/70s mix on YT. Grand Funk, the Hollies, Chicago, CCR, the Association and others. Pretty good Sunday!!
Sorry that you'll have to wait another day, as I left the camera out in the train shed and I don't want to bundle up again to go and get it. I do have all of yesterday's pictures downloaded on the computer though, so those will be first...not all 74!
T55 I worked on the fireman's and engineer's extra list form 1969 to the early 80's. They sent me over to the New Heaven regularly. pulling freight drags from Cos Cob to the Hell's Gate bridge. 100 car freight trains would come in nightly from CA. They called is the Lettice express. We had to put this trains away in the yard at Oak Point going up the line or pulling them on onto the bridge and backing them into the yard. It was a 12 midnight to 8 am job which I didn't like covering but there were much much worst jobs they sent me to that I really hated.

Thanks for the info it seems I’ve heard of these trains. So you start there when they merged. Pretty neat the years you worked there. Hope to have more updates on the layout soon.
I will need to take the wife to get her hair cut tomorrow afternoon. I better go start the car when I get up though, and make sure the battery didn't freeze. I think it's been three years since I replaced it, because it froze last time. But we were in -10 weather then. But, you know, 3 year warranty doesn't mean 3 years plus a month.
Tomorrow may be laying plaster cloth along the foam risers I've installed. I did pick up a cheap belt sander to go over the foam and event out any rough patches.
Made a stop at the local hobby store today, hoping the next wave of magazines would be out. They weren't. But I picked up three hoppers from the consignment sale case, for $10 each. They came without jewel cases, but look to be Atlas on two of them. Couldn't find a name on the third.
Looks like the previous owner broke the mounting pin for the truck. Are those something to order, or is this one going on the RIP track?
I supposed I should look into learning how to swap out the plastic wheels on my other rolling stock.
The New Haven Maybrook yard was the biggest yard in the northeast. When the Poughkeepsie railroad bridge caught fire in 1974 they closed the yard. Every engineer after me had to make a run over there as part of their training. I was the last guy that didn't have to go to engineer's school. I had taken all the tests before they started the school. My wife and I drove over there one day just to see what I had missed. The yard was completely gone except for this sign.

I made some changes to my layout expansion project. I'm not going to have an engine servicing yard. Instead, I'm going to be a more like Willie and have more businesses. It looks better with all the lights. I did add on one spur for a company in town. You have to remember the new president is a businessman. So I'm going to try and boost the layouts economy.
