I kept the window open because the gas furnace, gas dryer, and gas water heater are all in the utility room. I didn't want any possible fumes to accumulate.
Gee! All this going to bed before midnight???
Traditions to uphold.
New Years Eve I leave the house at just before midnight. Return just after the chime of the clock. Armed with gifts of coal, a match, salt and a coin I hand to Dawn as I 'first foot'. She hands me a glass of brandy and we celebrate the New Year.
Messages sent and received to friends and family.
Two o'clock in the morning before the journey to slumberland.
Mindst' you, in days gone things were different. Very different. Such traditions were not mine to keep or follow.
Before I married I used to work on Christmas Day. No Christmas Dinner as such; just a simple meal. Going home to visit family and arriving around 10.30pm. still in my work clothes.
New Years Eve was no different. Generally I worked night shift into January 1st. Just another day or night in paradise.
Kids these days do not believe me when I tell such stories.
Not lasting til midnight! I can't believe all you light weights! We watched the ball drop in NY and still stayed up til 2:30! I must admit though that I find the musical acts on the television are nothing that I recognise anymore.
I did just learn of the attack in New Orleans, sad and scary at the same time. Part of the wife's family is from there, and she recognised some of the locations shown on the TV from when she visited with them.
It's like one of those hidden object games. The center missing part of that barn used to rise 15' above the now existing roof line. Some of the stuff there was hauled in to clear the rooster pen area.

I have those all-in-one smoke & CO detectors. I have a half dozen or more of them scattered throughout the house. How long do they last? I installed them in 2017.
The one at the top of the steps is good for letting me know when I need to clean out the toaster in the downstairs kitchen. I know the smoke detector part is still functioning.

In keeping with Angela's holiday traditions, we had our dinner at noon. The pork roast was excellent, Angela loved it! I told her "You see I am more than a trophy husband"
I placed the roast on 1-inch-thick slices of potatoes. Seasoned the roast with my own meat seasoning. Added one can of lager beer, the brand doesn't matter as long as it is a lager beer. In this case I used Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Then I tightly sealed it all in with aluminum foil and slowly roasted it at 300 for five hours. It was falling off the bone, just the way Angela likes it. The potatoes underneath the roast were my favorite, but the meat was tasty too.
I made fresh baked rolls, and Angela likes to have coleslaw with pork roast. I have enough food left over to feed at least a half dozen people. I don't know how to cook in small portions. You can guess what I will be eating for the next couple of days. The rest will find its way into the freezer.
I poured the juices in the bottom of the pan into a fat-separator to make gravy another day. I see French fries and gravy in my near future. Along with hot pork in gravy.
Angela's ankle is looking good. The swelling is much better today and only after ten days. It won't be long before she will once again be spoiling me. For now, I'm off the bench, playing full time and loving it!
I turned the lights off at 10:15 after the local weather. I'm up usually before 4:30a.
We're expecting the temps to drop Saturday and will have highs in the 20's until next Thursday at the earliest. Local weather guessers are still not officially say it, but we are expecting expecting our first snow of the year in excess of 3" depending on how much rain comes first.
We're midweek running the robot vacuum. watching it come into the room where the computer is, it almost looks like a crab. I had a thought about whether or not if I looked like Chewbacca from Star wars if I could scare it off... I was surprised to see it run its pattern under the bed. Explains why there was more dust than I expected.
Louis: Smoke detectors generally last 7 to 10 years. CO2 recommends about 8 years, although I pushed mine to 9 years. When I bought the house almost 11 years ago we changed out the smoke detectors which re interconnected and added separate Co detectors. Smoke detectors were changed out in 2023 and the CO2 were changed out this spring. we have 1 CO2 on each level, with the basement one just outside the utility room were the furnace and hot water heater live.
They're like mini-chicken houses, each hen has her own. When it's breeding season, a select rooster is enclosed with her and the eggs are removed from each one, kept separate and moved to the brooder house for incubation. Most of the female chicks are culled and destroyed since he is raising fighting cocks. He tightly controls the breeding and lineage.
Many years ago, before Twisted Sister became popular, I saw them a few times on the East Coast metal circuit. Despite their appearance they are nice guys. The singer could talk your head off. I think he loved hearing himself talk. They certainly were a great band.
