Good afternoon. I watched the 4th quarter and overtime of the Texas/Arizona State game. The Ohio State/Oregon game is on. NotreDame and whoever they were to play in New Orleans tonight has been moved to Thursday night

Just background noise as I work on a friend’s 1965 paper mill design. He has a bunch of sheets of foamcore. I can use that for making mock ups to see how the structures fit the actual space. This has been an interesting but fun research project. Puget Sound in the mid1960’s and we now are trying to figure out how accurate does he want. He is thinking more compact to fit the wood chip pile and a log pond and flume. I’m used to designing and building modern and stretched out. Not many pictures available but he contacted his GN Historical society about building photos. I’m not sure how tall 1965 paper mill structures were. What we both know is there will be a good mix of brick and asphalt sided structures.

The New Orleans tragedy and bomb going off in Las Vegas! WOW! I hope this is not the harbinger of things to come in 2025. Lots of sickos out there. There are other ways than killing innocents to make your point…

Welp... we tried the pizza on the kamado joe this time (again).

The difference from the failed attempt was adding a pizza screen. Roll the dough out to rough shape (wife has a problem rolling it round... I had to trim the edges, make patches with the excess dough, and lay them over thin spots. I'll be in charge of rolling the dough from now on.

Found bags of shredded Mozz + Provolone at the grocery, so I got that. We always mixed 1 part provolone to 2 parts mozzarella where I worked.

We were able to transfer the rolled out dough to the pizza screen easily, then build the pizza from that point on. The screen made transport to the grill easy peezy.

With all the rain we've had over the last few weeks, the charcoal has picked up a lot of humidity. Had a tough time getting the grill up to 500 F-degrees. But, about 20 minutes later, we had a yummy pie.

Well, I did forget that we didn't have any sausage fried up. So, while I was waiting on the damp charcoal to dry out and get the grill up to temp, I remedied that problem with a tube of Jimmy Dean Italian ground we had in the fridge. Still had plenty of peperoni and my double smoked ham.

My question is, what could cause the pilot to go out?
I don't know. Mine will automatically shut off if the pilot goes out. Mine is also failing, not heating sufficiently, but still lights off on demand. It's 20 years old (+ or -), and overdue for replacement. I'll call my guy tomorrow....too old to replace it my self.
Perhaps, yours has a dirty valve, or gas service was interrupted outside your house. If it does it again give BG&E a call and have them send someone out.

In the past few years, a hawk caught 2 of the birds at my feeder. So the other day I see one sitting on the highest tree branch in the yard. I tried to scare it off but he wasn't moving. Then I see this crow fly up and sit on a branch 2 feet away from him. I guess crows are not afraid of hawks?
Swal
Usually Hawks are solitary, where crows are usually in groups. Maybe the hawk knows the reason why a flock of crows isn't called a flock, it's called a murder!

With old tanks I worry more about leaks than not heating water. I can live without hot water in the short term. I don't want to think about a flood. Mine was new when I moved here seven years ago. I still have some time before it should be replaced.

Smart move, I would take on a replacement job at this point in my life either.

That is a promising idea, thank you!

Crows are the Deadpools of the bird world. He was probably up there talking smack about the hawk's tail feathers or something else R rated.
I like that analogy.

Except it's the 8th Day of Christmas today (Jan 1)
Swing batter batter! 🤪 It's the thought that counts, obviously my counting was off. At the least you got to see seven swans swimming. Better than eight maids a milking.

I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go. I anticipated Amazon having early morning (3:15am) blocks (routes), but nooo. No work until 6am. If the rates are not as high as the early morning I will stay home today. Trying to keep up with all my little Angel would do is more than enough activity for me.

We got paid a half dozen times last month for showing up because Amazon didn't have the packages sorted. It happens every Christmas. After Christmas, not so much.

In some Eastern Christian traditions, the 12 Days might begin on January 7th, which is Christmas Day according to the Julian calendar, and continue until January 19th.

I agree with Louis.
I'm no expert, most of what I know about the subject comes from the song "12 days of Christmas"

I did hear on the radio The estimated cost of the gifts in the 12 days of Christmas for 2024, according to the PNC Christmas Price Index, is $49,263.47

How do they track the cost of eight maids a milking or twelve Lords a leaping?

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those covered in bird $h!t, cow manure, and are tired of geese honking, jumping lords, and just found out the gold rings are costume jewelry. Seriously, no one can afford to give all those gifts anymore. Seriously, 42 geese a-laying... I can't immagine has much poo they been a-dropping!

It's Troy again.

Made the decision last night that I was missing Model Railroader magazine. But I'm also tired of storing magazines that i only read once. So, I finally bit the bullet, and signed up for Trains.com - I'd done the predecessor, the video channel for MRR. And, to be honest that's about all I will do with the Trains.com one. Other than the basic Trains one, most of their stuff doesn't interest me. No way will I try to get a garden railway approved by the HOA in our condo community.

Mainly, I wanted to see the two issues about Rod Stewart's move of his layout from LA to London.

Downloaded the issues from Trains.com into my dropbox online (and the issues I'd missed when I let the paper subscription lapse).

Tonight I'll dig into the videos from the MRR folks to see what I was missing.

In other news, I almost took a tumble on the stairs to the basement. Out of our three levels, with two staircases, both the stairs have a landing with a 180° turn. 8 steps, then 7. Or is it 7 then 8???

My back as a twinged muscle. Not a pulled muscle, but almost. Wife has been requesting I wire an outlet in each staircase for a nightlight on each landing, so we don't do the extra or missing step that screws us up in the dark.

I've figured out where I can pull power from for both. I just need to go get the old-work boxes, outlets, cover plates, and about 20' of 14/2 wire. I've got the nightlights. Just need to get the outlets installed. That will be this weekend's project.
