I just seen this on Facebook:

This is interesting!

Heres the link to claim them.

There is one other alternative I can think of, and that is an assisted living facility. They are for people that need more help than they could reasonably get at home, but don't require around-the-clock care.
They are generally significantly less money than a full-blown nursing facility.
That is if $$8500 -10,000/month isn't a significant amount of money. Not for nothing, like nursing homes, assisted living facilities primary goal is to fleece you out of your money. Any help you get costs extra....Prescriptions are provided at the highest possible unit cost, through an affiliated specialty pharmacy.... I've been dealing with these facilities for five years now. My opinion: Avoid them at all cost. They are all alike.

been out of touch with www. world for 2 wks. 2 days on here just perusing & catchin up on the shop banter.
after a lovely oct,nov & dec the weather folks left this to look at for the next 2 wks.
It was a bit colder for a bit longer than expected minus 30 - 40 for six days. But only 4 inches of snow. Wood stove tore thru 4 heaping wheelbarrows of *sticks*. Yest I braved the minus 25 to get the basic driveway opened up chilly on a quad for 45 minutes.

Good evening all.
Our friend arrived and we caught up on news (well Dawn did). Stories of the past remembered.

When she had gone home I had a little time in the train room.

Unnumbered (but will be) Class 37 37026 'Glencairn', an Inverness based locomotive 'a long way from home', and Class 52 D1008 'Western Harrier' also away from home base of Plymouth, seen a Crown Point Diesel Yard, Leeds

Class 55 555017 'The Durham Light Infantry' and behind is Class 25 25237 being refuelled at Crown Point Yard.

New member to the 'fleet' Class 9F 92221 on show at Leeds Sovereign Street Station. Purchased to haul the rake of Consett Iron Company wagons I have. In real life some 9Fs had the 'honour' to haul the wagons from Tyne Dock to Consett and back.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day at 49F and currently 70F and raining. The morning was spent doing chores. After lunch, in the train room I put shingles on the decorative roofing and attached it to the building top and existing roofing. I then discovered I had glued the bracing/legs on incorrectly on one of the signs so I fixed that. Amazingly the legs came right off the sign. 😲 Tomorrow I need to weather the roof, attach the signage and the foundation and the build will be complete.

Snowman- My Dad is the same. We ended up getting him wireless headphones which work well, plus we aren't deaf now.

David- I hope you had a good visit with your friend.

Bill- Nice photos.

Smudge- Nice video.

Willie- Do the hogs tear up your property?

Grizzled- Very nice RS unit.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I normally don't mention the weather, but it's been unusual in Baltimore. Currently it is 33F and temperatures are predicted to drop to 30F overnight here in southeast Baltimore.

Tuesday, I woke up to find five inches of snow on the ground at 2am and it was still snowing That was the first snow of more than one inch in Baltimore in more than 750 days. Temperatures dropped after the snow finished. It was 3F in rural Cockeysville Wednesday morning before dawn. The high temperatures haven't gotten above the low 30s since the snow ended. Next week things are supposed to return to normal. The average low for Baltimore in January is 27F, the average high is 43F.

Tomorrow morning the forecast is for more snow. It could be as much as two inches, maybe more.

I'm not complaining, I like the cold better than the heat and humidity. And Baltimore's weather is mild compared to other parts of the country.

Have a good night, stay warm and dry Everybody!

Good evening. 29°, cloudy, but the moon shining through the clouds. Well, we are in full panic mode at the Jersey Shore. Snow after 0400 tomorrow, lasting all day. Predicted accumulation 3" to 7" during the day, 1" more tomorrow night. All cars have to be removed from residential streets, and either the trash will be picked up early morning, or not? Mine is down at the curb. If they cancel, like they did Tuesday, I'll pull it back to the garage. Next Pick up will be next Tuesday, when temperatures will be in the 40s. Snowflakes of Howell, ***PANIC***.

Believe the Caps will be facing off against St.Louis at the Capital 1 Arena in DC, in 10" That, and some reading will round out the evening.

Tomorrow, I begin my PRR K9 Stock car project. I have two Bowser kits to build. Both resemble late PRR era paint scheme. One is a K9 single deck, the other a K9a double deck car. These cars remained in service on the PC to around 1972. The hold up is the roof color. Waiting on a copy of Volume 2 PRR Color Guide, from Morning Sun.
I have one meat packer customer on the Reading, that would receive PRR perishables from Train NF4 @ Frankford Jct. for PRR delivery. (Reciprocal Switching Agreement).

George: I think that the home care aid is a reasonable alternative to a nursing home. Depending on your personal circumstance, you may be able to recover some of that expense on your income taxes as it is a medical Care expense.
Boris and Willie I didn't even think about the taxes. I called the nursing home / rehabilitation center where Jane was in 18 months ago and they told me for her to stay permanently in the nursing home section would be $190,000.00 a year or $535.00 a day. She said there are 15 people on the waiting list to take advantage of the deal. We will not be staying there. I guess she'll be coming back home in a few days.

Gee! I thought we have it bad here. You are talking Monopoly money over the pond.

It was a learning experience getting both my parents in a nursing home. Best thing my brother and I did was get a lawyer that specialize in that. We were able to keep the nursing home from taking everything and did the paperwork to put them on Medicaid.

Willie-Are those allowed to be legally hunted?
Willie- Do the hogs tear up your property?
In Texas there is an open season on the feral hogs, meaning that they can be hunted day and night 24/7/365, without any license. In some counties there is a $5 bounty on the hogs, which you can collect by presenting the tail. They can tear up property pretty quickly, but they have not damaged any of my property, yet!
A group of them like the ones that I pictured are called "sounders". In my area they generally stick to the two creek bottoms, one about 1/4 mile north and the other 1/4 mile south that both run into the Corps of Engineers flood control lake across the road from me. They have specific trails through the fences that I pass by every time that I walk south. I haven't spotted any trails north because that's a little rougher terrain there.
The dam on the lake across the road is protected by what is known as "rip-rap". That's a lining of large boulders along the waterline and extending about 15' above and below the waterline. It's purpose is to protect the dam from wave action, but it serves equally as well to keep the hogs from rooting around near the dam.
While I have not tried it yet, I am told that the meat from these hogs is actually tastier than domestic pigs, and there is a decent sized cottage industry processing many of the killed hogs. The commercial processors have USDA rules to follow when processing the meat. There's one that I pass every time that I go to town. DIY butchers can do whatever they want and there are plenty of them as well. They actually quite regularly provide feasts for the vultures and buzzards along the sides of our road after being hit by vehicles. They do a lot of damage to some vehicles when hit. Those steel bumpers on pick up trucks remain undamaged, but the plastic front ends on SUV's are no match. I hit one on a different road, in the dark on my way to work, about six miles away, maybe 25 years ago in my Honda Civic and it nearly caused me to spin out.
This is probably more than you wanted to know...but!!!

One of the changes enacted during covid, tightened the requirements for Medicaid. Even with a highly reputable eldercare attorney, the MIL was denied...If you had a crystal ball, and could see something coming five years in advance...you could still do it, but these things happen suddenly.

Caps won the first of a home and home series with St. Louis 5-2. TJ Oshie with a hat trick. Next game Saturday in St Louis. Ovie was back, 1 Assist 15 minutes 25 seconds time on ice +1.

Snow flakes haven't started yet...(not until 0800 per NWS), but All schools are closed, Town Hall is closed, All courts statewide are closed, and no street parking permitted. As of now, garbage will still be picked up. So it is on the Jersey Shore.
...As y'all snicker, remember we are not allowed to pump our own gas here either...we are not trained so it's unsafe...

Wife and I have no commitments for Friday, so no biggie. This one should be pure snow, so maybe the snow blower will work. Saturday, will be sunny, and cold with blowing snow...50° next Thursday...
