Afternoon All,
Started out the day with a walk at 47F and windy. It was freezing for this FL boy. I did some chores after breakfast and headed to the train room. While I was working on the kit, I ran a Athearn Genesis F3 ABA for about 2 hours. It's an easy way to put run time on the locos. I finished the tarpaper roofs and built the mansard type decorative roof. I need to put shingles on it tomorrow.
Swal- Three years ago Mom left the hospital to go to her home under hospice care. They provided all the medical supplies and hardware. They had a nurse come to the house 2 times a week and a tech for baths and sheet changes once a week. They even had a nurse come to the house to clip her nails. This was all free of cost. She survived 8 months at home and I can't say enough good things about hospice. We had our initial meeting with hospice in the hospital.
Karl- Good luck with the tractor.
David- Best wishes for your grandson's recovery.
Bill- Neat picture.
Troy-Is pathfinder based on Native Americans fighting off the Vikings?
TomO- I hope the housing situation works out for you.
I hope everyone has a good night.

No, but there is a Miniature Warfare game called Mythic Americas that looks at the mythologic past of the North and Central America, and pits those factions against each other. You can even field a Wendigo in your force if you pick the correct faction(s).
Windy the last few days, been busy keeping the roads open. We had lake effect snow this afternoon with 25 mph winds. Snow has moved south but the winds are still blowing with gust to 35 mph.
For you D&D players.
I used to play D&D, and I always brought that 8-track with me. I was always the out of place looking guy, with the pretty girl. I was comfortable with the geeks, the jocks, or the heads. But I never really fit in with any of them. But everybody loved the Man on the Silver Mountain!
Hmmmm, I've lost track of the versions. I was from the AD&D era. Intending to get back into it, I bought a new set of books (the number had increased 3 to 6 or more), took them home and my son said, "Oh, you bought the lousy version".
While I've started with the 5th Edition stuff now, the ultimate is still AD&D 1E. I have a set or two of books and a ton of Dragon magazines from the low 2 digit numbers up to 5xx...
That would be version 4
Current D&D is V 5, and what the cool orcs are playing.
From playing t a little it seems 5E is basically a revamped, normalized (in the mathematics sense), and updated AD&D 1E in spirit and in the base mechanics ideas. Maybe that is why I can deal with it and why the later than 1E games didn't do much for me. I have 2E books but never got into them and took a long break to 5E as my kids were slightly interested.
Somehow it never occurred to me to be interested, between trains, cars and girls I had enough on my plate!

That's interesting, I had girls on my D&D plate. Our characters would do things in the game that we would simulate after the fact.

I have always read and heard about the "lake effect snow" in the Buffalo area and to a minor extent Cleveland, but a new one to me was "lake effect snow" in Dallas last Sunday! It formed around the man-made water reservoirs around the city.

Curt that's interesting. Who did you contact for this care? Was your Mom terminal at the time? My wife is not terminal she just can't move because of all her broken bones.
Swal
Swal- Mom was terminal with lung cancer (never smoked). We talked to the hospital social worker to get things started. You seem to be in a different situation but I would start there to see your options.

You left out BEER!

In today's world, Nerdy and Geeky girls play D&D/RPGs
You're better off being a gamer if you want to find girls.

I found Dawn. She's a 'gamer'.

Who did you contact for this care?
George: As Curt mentioned, a good place to start is the Hospital Social Worker. Beyond that, the County Social Service agency may also help guide you.
I would have thought that would have topped the list!

Actually when I was young I didn't care much for beer, it always didn't settle with me. But Jack Daniels and Tequila were my go tos, At least the legal ones
Oddly enough, I have 1 son that is allergic to hops, he drinks mead instead.

I talked with her
Boris she said because she wasn't terminal it was either a nursing home or paying for a home care aid. I looked at some prices for this service and it's around $20.00 an hour 3 times a week. I think I'm going that route. I really don't want to give up half of all the money we have.
Swal
Good evening, all. We warmed to about 45 degrees this afternoon. Close to 70 forecasted for tomorrow. Tomorrow's agenda item, replace hot water heater. Current one is down to one element. Not bad after a 30 year run.
Trains - What I thought I might do is show you how a wound up with Boston and Maine as my core railroad. Apple Ridge of course is an imaginary place, with a rail line transfer to the B&M. When I was very young, my parents and grandparents would vacation in Shelburne Falls, Mass. Adlers Cabins was the name of the place, maybe 4 or 5 miles out for town. The actual cabins are gone except for one. The house of the proprietor has been replaced by a white water rafting company. the building in the center. The cabins were to the left. The tracks at the bottom of the picture are/were Boston and Maine. Going left, or west you go to the Hoosac tunnel. When I heard the steam whistle, I'd find my grandfather and sit on his lap and we'd count the cars. As I stare at this photo a great number of memories come flooding back. Steam locomotives echoing through the Berkshire Mts., going into town to get block ice for the ice box, seeing the pot belly stove glowing red as it burned coal, grandfather singing, "Fuzzy wassy was a Bear", my first taste of YooHoo chocolate soda thanks to Mr. Adler. There is a small bridge, center bottom. The last time I was there, canoed under the bridge and camped in the woods. That one, single piece of track had that much influence.
