Well, howdy there internet peeps.

Up at 4 am due to the sciatic nerve going nuts last night. I started with the stretching and Alieve. It's mostly quiet at the moment, but I added extra lumbar support to the office chair.

Our local gaming group has drifted off to other things, and rather than spend the energy trying to pull them together again, or building a new group in a new game, I'm looking at jumping back into Role Play Gaming.

But, since Hasbro, current owners of D&D, is doing everything it can to honk off the player base, I'm looking at a game called Pathfinder.

Found a local group that runs the Organized Play campaign, and they're starting a "new season" this Saturday. Already asked the wife if she needed me or the car.

If you've played D&D in the past, and haven't heard of Pathfinder, it was written by the Monte Cooke team that made D&D 3rd ed for Wizards of the Coast after they purchased the game. But, when the owners started to create 4th ed D&D, Cooke and his team didn't want to lose the core design of 3rd ed. So they took the concept and built Pathfinder on it's bones.

Basically, very similar play engine, with new names. And it's up to version 2.5 (Called 2nd Ed Remastered).

I'm building a Goblin rogue to play. He wants to be a bard, so his singing/music ability is about where mine is. We'd get paid not to sing!

Now I just have to find my dice!
Sounds like fun, enjoy the game change, not the back aches

Good morning. 16° currently, at the Swamp. Slightly warmer on our porch. Going to 25° this afternoon, then down to 18 tonight. Other than the Capitals winning last night, and hearing Rangers / MSG owner Jimmy Dolan is in some sort of alleged trouble, not much is going on.

George: Just wanted to say you're in our prayers. Hope your wife gets the assistance she needs, and you can figure out what's best for both of you...

Good Morning All. 23° and bright sunshiny morning. Supposed to get above freezing in a couple more hours, and stay there until around midnight tomorrow when we repeat again, although for a shorter duration this time.

Out of my normal routine today. Had a lousy night sleeping, and laid back down about 0615 and then slept soundly until 0830. I'm still using the hated laptop, where the keys are not in the same place as my desktop. The QWERTY ones are, but all others are in the wrong place; plus if I touch in the wrong place, stuff happens! With the help of my SIL, we've determined that it's my monitor that's failed, so I am off in a couple of hours to buy a new one. I hooked the current one up to an old computer and had the same results, so that ruled out the video card. Well it's 15 or 16 years old so I got my money out of it. I'm used to the 23" screen and not this 14" laptop screen. I also don't have any of my bookmarks on this thing other than this forum.

I spent some more time out in the train shed yesterday. Built a little more of the split rail fence for the cemetery. It seems to take the glue a little longer to dry when it's colder. Inspected and cleaned another 2 dozen freight cars...finally moving past the staging yard. Might not get as much time out there today (if any), dependent on the set up time needed for the monitor.

Swal- My best wishes and prayers for your wife's situation. No need to be concerned with the house at this time. That can come later.

I don't have time for any other comments this morning, lucky readers, since I slept late. Time for medications and vitamins and a short walk before leaving for town. I should also bring in a supply of firewood so my wife doesn't have to do that. She does do a couple of armloads a day and is adept at keeping the fire going at the proper level, thankfully.

So, everyone have a great day. Hope to see everyone on a new monitor on my next visit.

Good afternoon all. It is a cold day. Could Flo 'rustle up' a hot toddy please.

Middle grandson was in hospital this morning and home by 11.30am after surgery.

Collected grandchildren from school and took them home. Saw an idiot had parked their car denying wheelchair access!! Then afterwards a woman walking her two children home on the road, then crossed the road directly in front of me without looking. Had I knocked them down I would have been guilty.

Ah. Here's the hot toddy.

I'm used to the 23" screen and not this 14" laptop screen.

When you go shopping, look at the 27-28" ones or even the 32" ones. The older I get the bigger the screen (at the same resolution) for the old eyes (and I'm younger than you). In fact I use a 40" TV as my main screen. A 4K 40" but everything is nice and clear... (And being 4K I can see a lot of stuff at once -- multiple side by side browsers if I need to or whatever).

Willie, I use Firefox, and if I c create an account and sign in on another computer, it will carry my bookmarks and settings over from the first computer.
As for a monitor, I got a 28" 4k Samsung monitor from my local big box electronics emporium. It has a beautiful display, and was reasonably priced.

Morning folks,

Back to your regularly scheduled winter here with light snow and 24F. Hopefully that -40 stuff is in the rear view mirror for the year but that may be overly optimistic.

I kind of got side tracked on the railroad related slide scans yesterday. Some photos of various Beartooth Mountains backpack trips found their way to the scanner. I don't suspect I will ever really get into those mountains again but what an awesomely beautiful place. In my opinion, it put puts its adjacent neighbor (Yellowstone Park) to shame.

Good morning, everyone!

Not sure if it's the humidity in the air, or what, it feels colder today than any of the last days. Just can't get warm today for some reason.

Looking to next week, looks like we will see the mid 40s. to us in the Midwest, it will be time to wear the shorts again! Thats going to feel heavenly! It's going to create a mess with the rapid snowmelt.

Have a safe day all!

Really enjoying the slides, you have been showing. Hope to see more!

I use Firefox and I am aware of what you are referring to. She uses Chrome on her laptop. I could copy and transfer my bookmarks over via E-Mail or one of those memory devices, but I don't want to make waves with the sanctity of her machine! Firefox makes it easy if you know where to look.

Hmmmm, I've lost track of the versions. I was from the AD&D era. Intending to get back into it, I bought a new set of books (the number had increased 3 to 6 or more), took them home and my son said, "Oh, you bought the lousy version".

Good Afternoon All!

15F @ 68% and snowing. Geesh, supposed to snow for the next 2 days ( 8 - 12" ), then BIG snow for that day after ( 12 - 16" ). We currently have about 10" on the ground.

I posted over in layout design Here . Give it a look and see what you think.

Willie: By chance did you make sure the monitor is plugged in tight and all the pins are straight? Both ends.

Willie thanks for your concern's. The hospital told me she has 2 broken ribs, and another broken bone in her back besides the ones she already has. She must have fell without me knowing about it. They gave me some options. Put her in a nursing home or have a home hospice situation where I pay a private aid to help out with all her needs. I don't know the cost of the private aid but if she goes into a nursing home, they will take all the $27,0000 she makes a year from her retirements accounts and half the money in all our banks accounts. If I sell the house, they will take half of that. So it would be better for her mentally to be at home, and we pay a private aid. How much this private aid will cost I'll find that out tomorrow.
If anyone here knows anything about this home hospice care. Let me know.

Swal: Went through this with Mom 10 years ago or so. She was deathly afraid of being put in a nursing home. When she broke here hip, she really started going down. Did not have the will to carry on. She was 89 at the time. Anyway, because she really did not need heavy medical attention we decided to give up our bedroom and moved her there. We did all the needed stuff for her and when the time came, hospice became involved. Medicare paid for the hospice guy and gal to come by when we though it was needed. Most of the time is was not and they just said hi to her and left ( no bill ). One thing hospice did do is tell us to plan a 4 day stay away from the place thing. That let use not worry quite so much and got needed rest. If I had to do it all over again, yup, no reason in the world to stash her where other are *supposed* to be taking care of her. Another thing it did is that it started the grieving part as we knew what the end result was. You just do not see how bad she really was cuz we saw her day in/day out. When one of her friends came by ( lesser and lesser of that ) they would look at us really funny.

Good luck!

That would be version 4

Current D&D is V 5, and what the cool orcs are playing.

There is a youtubz channel called Critical Roll... low end celebs/actors gather to play the game weekly And the world geeks out to their stories.

Yes, for sure. I took the monitor to the Geek Squad this morning, and they plugged it up right there in front of me so I knew they weren't doing anything underhanded. It truly did not work anymore. It is over 15 years old and I got my money's worth out of it as it cost less than $100 to begin with. I had even switched back and forth from a HDMI cable to a VGA cable to no avail.
New one this morning is 1" larger and cost just $129.
