Well it looks like it's the dreaded end to the weekend. I added to my fleet yet again. A chessie addition. Mostly got it for a project. Looks like space isn't on my side with the future move. I may not be able to allocate the space. A shelf layout maybe. The issue here is I own primarily coal hoppers. Not much of anything else. I don't know how a coal themed shelf would turn out. Well I suppose I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Might be back to where I was at when I lived in Virginia. Working on little projects here and there. That's the worst case scenario. I never asked. With my extended hiatus from the forum. Did I miss anything of importance? Well that's all I have for now. I hope everyone is doing well. I'll stop by again when I get a chance.

My new project. Should be here tomorrow.

Is your LED wired backward? When I 1st got into DCC I was forever hooking up the anode (+) side to the function lead, but decoders don’t work that way. The decoder keeps the blue wire “hot” all the time, and grounds the function lead to complete the desired circuit. I always have to stop and remind myself of this when wiring LEDs to decoders

If the decoder already had a built in resistor, as some newer ones do, it would cause a problem...but otherwise not...
Ok, the SDH 166 doesn't have built in resistors, and if it did how would adding a second resistor cause a problem, 'cause I've done it and had no problems at all.
That is unless your using too high a resistor, that would result in not enough power getting to the LED's to work, which is possibly what has happened or it's wired in wrong.

Good morning, Everybody!

The last week of the NFL regular season was frustrating, surprising, and confusing but none the less entertaining,
I can't remember a season with so much inconsistency from so many teams.

So Seattle and SF get a short week, but at least they play one another. And the winner of the Monday night game gets a short week to prepare for the next game afterward.
Shame that the #4 seed in the NFC has a worse record than #5, #6, or #7 in both conferences, and a worse record than several teams that didn't make the playoffs. A losing record at that.
I see that all three teams from Florida made it, and 3 of 4 teams from NFC East made it.

It is a shame. Detroit (9-8) and Washington (8-8-1) were more deserving in my mind. Rules are rules, nothing we can do about it. It would be shocking if Tampa Bay won the Superbowl!

Well, howdy there internet MRR people, and those watching sportsball.

It's Troy again.

I believe that I've got the 3D printer bed adhesion issue rectified. I'll know in four hours or so.

Since everyone is all about sportsballing, here's my upcoming team. Its for the Crusades bowl!

Muts.jpg

The figure front, far right was 3d printed. The others are figures from Gripping Beast minis, in hard plastic

Not sure if these will be part of the Mutatawwi'a or The Moors. I'm leaning toward Moors. But the Muts get camels instead of horses.

Those are conversations you don't hear on the Gridiron! ;)

Editing my intro to the Canadian Eerie Falls series today. Question for the Canadians on the forum:
Timmies
or
Timmys?
Or does it matter?

Good morning gang.

Made it to work today, but running on @3 hours of sleep because of wife coughing half the night, and a wave of back spasms that hit from 1 am til 4 or so. I may need to IV coffee this morning. But the sun is up and the birds are chirping, and I'm on the planet and not in is, so it's ok.

BBL

BTW, 41 days until the Daytona 500

Good morning as life in the weather confused portion of Wisconsin I call home continues. we should hit 40 today even though now it’s 18f degrees. Temperatures are courtesy of the Weather Channel app. I made a comment to the confused person living on Maui that I would like to move back to Chicago! She said go. It was after a few statements I made though after a pathetic performance of a Packer team that needed a win.

If a QB has a busted up throwing thumb and hand and the coaching staff and the National USA audience all know it, shouldn’t the backup play?

Sold the weathered Centerbeam car finally I had for sale this week last night. Guy said, anymore and I then sold 2 more leaving me with one. This time its good. I have some Rapido on Pre-order and the single packaged Walthers Centerbeams are easy to find at a decent price $20 to $25 each on FB sale sites. If I wanted a 3 pack though that seems to be higher priced at $160 on the bay of E. That’s crazy. I did not sell the remaining Atlas one as while not too difficult to find some feel it’s worth it’s weigh in gold. It’s a nice model but not $50 nice for something 2 years ago was retail $25. Like I have written before, the search for a decent price model is part of my model railroading fun. I have nothing up for sale anywhere at this time.

I may drive to the LHS just to see what’s going on. Usually a Monday stop there leads to a operating session invite for sometime during the week. But, before hand I need some pictures of my next sale items for FB. Let’s see, gondolas ( not great sellers), Exactrail FBOX yellow box cars, covered hoppers or bulkhead hoppers?

3 of us did do Ruth Chris’s last night. The food was delicious but you could feed a family of 4 decently for at least a couple weeks. But yes we went! We wanted a great steak and knew what the cost was and we could afford it. Other then a great greeting by the “Guy” at reception the coach was left alone while we ate. Not the usual interruptions that he always handles graciously. A few acknowledgement nods plus waves and that was it.

I decided over the weekend that I need to talk to a pro regarding my 401k. I understand I have to start making withdrawals at 72 but just read that it has been changed to 73. Since Wisconsin taxes 401k withdrawals as does Federal I don’t want to get totally screwed. Wisconsin also taxes SS and any other retirement withdrawals at any amount, some states don’t. So just a triple check and peace of mind visit. Thankfully I don’t need to use the funds at this time. The last 6 months have not been nice to my 401k. 2.5 years to have to withdraw may give the fund recovery time, that I think we will see the last few months of 2023. But a rocky ride we are in for, especially if we keep giving away our defense funding and supplies.

enjoy the day

I had a few modules from the old layout brought over from storage last week. They are sitting on the floor downstairs. Not really sure what I want to do with them.

Will the California rains help the drought out West?

Does anyone really care anymore who drives the clown car?

How bad must it be for people to leave their country to come to a place they are not wanted?

When the Huckster Musk loses 200 billion personally in 4 months do folks still think he is a financial genius. He is a engineering genius but, 200 billion?

Random thoughts, fire away!

Do something even if it's only touching up damage, updating things or superdetailing a scene or two. It's great therapy and doesn't cost you $300.00 an hour like the other kind! 😁

My random thoughts (which hopefully won't get me in trouble)

1: California: Some, but their biggest problem is trapping the water before it runs off. Unfortunately, most of it will likely wind up in the ocean.

2: The clown car. I predict mostly disfunction and crapshow investigations for political theater. It'll mostly be about revenge. Since the new speaker basically handed his gonads over in a little velvet sack to get the job, I very much doubt he'll be able to function effectively.

3: Refugees: It must be terrible, especially when some of them are here because this country interferes with the governments in their home countries, which either creates the problem, or makes it worse. Not blaming any party or faction here, it's been happening for a good century or more. It's what we do. Our biggest problem is that in spite of all the rhetoric and dog and pony shows, our business owners love that cheap labor. Instead of marching out a hundred chicken pluckers in chains for a headline or a sound byte, I recommend we march out the business owners in chains and watch the change commence! I recall living in Phoenix many years ago when I was young, and seeing these poor people. I was having difficulty finding work myself and made some sort of comment, and an old geezer snorted and said "Don't worry about them boy, they only get the jobs you wouldn't want anyway." Not 100% true of course, but let's face it, Americans by and large don't want to pluck chickens, pick fruit or be day laborers.

4: I question that Musk is a genius at all. Most of his success early on was being in the right place at the right time, and hiring the right people and staying out of their way. Now that he's personally involved in day to day operations we see what his management skills really are. My rating: I wouldn't work for him. Toxic! I don't use twitter and never have, but from what I've seen of it in screen caps it seems to be mostly a sh*t flinging fest on monkey island. It's a little disturbing that as a society we hold these people up as examples of success and all but worship them. Especially when most of them started out with inherited wealth. Nothing like starting your climb up the mountain from 95% of the way up!

And now back to trains. I spent a good bunch of time yesterday with those tank cars. Pics over on the weathering thread!

Nice place but yeah big money. Easy to spend $150.00 a plate with that ala carte thing they do. More if you like cocktails and desert! OTOH if you don't treat yourself once in a while, what's the point? In that vein I splurged a little over Christmas. I wanted to try some really good caviar. It was sort of a bucket list thing. I ordered it online, and it came in next day air. Verdict: it was delicious, but I don't think I'll spend that much for that little again! Note: The good stuff doesn't taste fishy. :)

Nothing you have written here do I find issue with. A really great take on the refugees.

We have helped both our kids climb the ladder but neither of them wanted anything to do with us until they hit their mid-30’s after they both were already mildly successful.

I also have never signed up for Twitter, Instagram or anything else beyond Facebook. Until Covid my FB presence was for family only. I now use only text, Face time or Zoom for family stuff. FB is now for my trains.
