Good morning. I have looked out the windows, the furnace is running but have not turned on the TV weather guy nor looked at the app. Based on the furnace, I say it’s cold outside.

The Badger hockey game was a huge disappointment. #2 nationally got beat by #5 as #2’s goalie is a weak link and yesterday she played like it. The 1st 20 minutes was all Badger Women with the Duluth goalie letting in just a double deflection on 24 shots. She was amazing, that 1st period should have been easily 5-0. 3 very soft goals by Duluth in the 2nd and 3rd periods ending the game 3-1. We did not go to dinner after the game as they lost but tonight we go to Ruth Chris’s win or lose.

I watched some of the second NFL game as background last night. The Jacksonville QB is damn good.

The 4 ladies with my wife have extended the stay on Maui. Basically now, it’s when they get home they will be home. Even my Endocrinologist is staying as she has all video patient appointments until March. Terry says the doctor’s hubby is in Bombay also until March so doc doesn’t need to come back to Wisconsin until inpatient begins in April. The rest of her Crew are retired and doing well with no must do things back in Wisconsin. My sister has doctor appointments in Pasadena coming up but Terry said they will fly back for those, overnight there and then return. The goal for my sister is to get her healthier and stronger so they are all working to help her with that. I will look today to see what my medical appointments are and go out for a week. My brother goes over on 1/11 and I will go while he is there. He will be there till May so no rush for me. That way when I do want to play golf I have someone I know. He will play every day and as I mentioned before, I can’t nor do I want to do that anymore.

The grandson is playing in the Badger State hockey tournament up in Wausau, Wi. Lost game #1, 2-1. Won game #2, 10-3 as he had his 1st hat trick of the year and 4 assists. As he said on FaceTime to me last night. “Poppa not bad for the #3 line.” His line was on the ice for 8 of the 10 goal his team scored with his 2 line mates getting 2 goals a piece.

I had a few modules from the old layout brought over from storage last week. They are sitting on the floor downstairs. Not really sure what I want to do with them.

Will the California rains help the drought out West?

Does anyone really care anymore who drives the clown car?

How bad must it be for people to leave their country to come to a place they are not wanted?

When the Huckster Musk loses 200 billion personally in 4 months do folks still think he is a financial genius. He is a engineering genius but, 200 billion?

Random thoughts, fire away!

The track is laid and the layout is ready to run. Now, I'm waiting for my very first diesel loco.

Good Morning All. Clear and 36° out there this morning. Weather geeks nailed that one. ;) Forecast hasn't changed much except they're now predicting 80° for a high on Wednesday.
Woke up this morning with a horrific pain in the right side of my neck, obviously slept wrong somehow. It's bad enough that I took a pain reliever which I don't normally do. Happened sometime between the first and second bathroom breaks. It's really painful to look down at the keyboard or the ground when I am walking, or turning to the right. I might have to get out the heating pad if things don't improve soon. It's painful enough that I cannot raise my arm enough to self-massage, so I am waiting for my wife to get up and see if she can help, even a little. She normally doesn't have the strength in her hands to do much.

We're headed to Dallas later this afternoon for a late birthday dinner for me that my daughters are preparing.

Thanks for all of the comments and reactions to the progress update posted yesterday.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I cleared everything out and painted the backdrop. Just did the blue for now. I won't do the horizon until the structures are in place so I don't paint behind something that I will eventually cover up. I'm re-thinking how some stuff is going to be arranged. The north end with the fermentation tanks are for sure going where I pictured them yesterday, as well as the storage tanks and cooling towers. The grain storage bins and the hidden unloading area will most likely be done differently, although I didn't really picture them. I may not have a separate track for the propane unloading on the south end.
Nothing significant to post a picture of yet, so let's peruse the archive. Here are few other businesses in the same town of Graham.

Tom O - The fermentation tank stairway was a fun challenge to build. While it had only 17 parts, it had over 60 glue points to contend with. It took me over 2 hours to build, much of the time waiting for parts to adhere.
Nope I didn't win the Mega Millions lottery either. I guess it would help if I purchased a ticket.
Karl - Nice progress there
James - You mentioned Jerome. I really miss him. Have you or anyone else heard from him???
Swal - You're making some nice progress as well. I hate it when a professional does something quickly that takes me half a day!
Sherrel - As you probably suspect, they're ripping off the natural gas customers in your neighborhood. Natural gas costs for December 2022, were only 30% higher than December 2021. Kalifornia does not have any LNG terminals to export it from, so that's BS.
California LNG

Today marks the birthday's of a couple of musical notables. It would have been Elvis Presley's 88th and David Bowie's 76th. Hope that they are rocking together today.
Everyone have a great day.

Good Morning.... Coffee Flo and a breakfast sandwich, please. Sabers won in OT last night 6-5, hope the Bills can win today too. Looks like another snowstorm for next weekend, they seem to hit on holiday weekends.
Tom: In line with your wishes, hopefully the Ravens will wake up, and beat the Bengals, who seem to object to a coin toss for home field advantage.

Other preferences: Important Game...Caps over Columbus. Backstrom and Wilson return from injuries. Less important, Detroit over Green Bay, Jets over the Fish, Gi'nts over Philly, Washington over Dallas.

S word in forecast overnight, but temps in the 40s will cure that, by the time I have to go for my test. Snow rears its head when I have an important appointment.

Sherrel: Natural Gas Pricing: Without comparing last year's bills to this year, I don't notice a difference. Last months $273, reflects the severe cold weather snap just before Christmas, when the furnace ran almost continuously. This month should reflect the spring like weather we have had until this past Friday.

Speaking of weather, currently, 37° and sunny, with a slight breeze from the ESE. Today's high forecast is 42°, with an overnight low of 34°.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

PC 4882 passing Cork with Mail train - July 1970 - Steven M Geisler photo.jpg

Westbound Mail and Express passing Cork Tower, (Lancaster, PA in July 1970, in this Steven M Geisler photo. Still a mix of Flexi-vans, REX Express cars and baggage cars followed by a "high speed" cabin car. Mail and Express trains of under 23 cars, operated at Passenger Train speed. Beyond the overpass, in the background, are the mostly unused stock yards. The two middle tracks are now removed, reflecting the rerouting of Mail and freight traffic to the former RDG - LV mains between Harrisburg and North Jersey. Lancaster is one of the highest volume stations on the Northeast Corridor, a stop for the Amtrak Pennsylvanians, and Amtrak's Keystone Service which links Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York.

Good evening. 30°, clear with moonlight. going down to 28°.

The Good news is that the NJ Devils beat the NY Rags 4-3 in Overtime...the bad news is that Xavier beat Villanova, who dropped to 8-8. Jay Wright, where are you when we need you???

For the second consecutive day, I ran trains on my layout. I still have too many cars on the layout, and have to decide which ones to put away.

Tomorrow, I plan on permanently mounting the photo backdrop on the end module, which also contains the yard. Monday, I go for the CT scan of my heart and chest. Already established that I have a heart, so I need to be kinder and gentler.

As usual, many interesting comments.

Baltimore Coal Train, (C&I Hoppers), for the Canton Coal Tipple, passing the Harrisburg Postal Sorting Center on #12 track, adjacent to the former PRR Station, in this Steven M Geisler photo, from September 1974. If I remember correctly, the C&I train was barged over to the now defunct Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point Steel Mill. Speaking of defunct, the Harrisburg Post office built on the site of the Reading Company Passenger Station, is now closed, and relocated to a suburban location. Platform track 10, in the foreground is also gone, as are all the locomotives in the consist, and the train it self. Tracks #11 and #12, remain , now belonging to the NS, but the Catenary wire is long gone. Harrisburg, is still a good place to watch NS freight, and Amtrak passenger trains, pretty much all day long.

Legal or not, I would like to see people locked up for public intoxication. Intoxicated people are a danger to themselves and others.
Even if they are released 24 hours later. No junkie wants to spend 24 hours without drugs.
Better yet would be mandatory treatment for repeat offenders. I think it would be cheaper than the current drain on the economy.
I agree, there should be a drying out tank, where they get fresh water for a couple of days then release them, drinking and driving is a serious issue, a relative committed scurried by purposely going onto a motorway the wrong way and driving at other traffic I understand a lorry driver was hurt and people in a car killed,I do not know if he plastered himself first for Dutch courage, but any action that endangers others deserves repercussions, and often people get a slap on the wrist having caused thousands in damages and worst ruined lives or ended them. I think terrorist who use vehicles should be treated as though it was a gun, because if they get a lesser sentence it encourages them to see it as an easier option.
I am sure I said this one already where I used to live a bloke driving home from the railway station was speeding down a lane he hit a woman her baby in a pushchair killing both, it was evaluated that if he had driven at the legal speed he lived so close to the station he would have saved one minute by speeding, so that he could get home faster, he wrecked his life, but he killed them.
I think Bruettes comment over legalising drugs and people who do not use them then taking them is probably correct, the forces would be better at stopping the drugs getting here and being distributed than the idiots who take them, the sentences are too mild, and I know by statistics sone people must be innocent, BUT if you do not take a stand then the situation is must worse.
Maybe they should bring back forced labour, not give them tv and phones! many drug lords just carry on in side, make em slog hard, cover the tax dollar that is costing them to be there, cover the scammers who beggar people.

Afternoon All,

Started out at 51F today. I did some chores this morning before heading to the train room where I put in the second layer of sand ballast (fine sand from Scenic Express). While putting down glue on it I realized why I felt like I was missing something when I soldered on the feeders. I didn't solder the track joiners. What the .... (You fill in the appropriate word). Very stupid oversight. The ballast shouldn't be affected but I'll obviously have to deep clean the track in those 4 spots. Grrrr.... After lunch I started feeling fatigued and achy again, so I laid down for a nap after taking OTC cold meds. On the plus side MOH has tested negative twice after her Covid, don't know about Dad yet.

In line with TomO's musings: How long will it take to empty the rest of the world into the U.S. and turn our country into what the fleeing people left from?

Smudge- Nice job.

Swal- You're making progress. It looks like it will be a very nice bathroom.

Sherrel- The average American can't get a break from the greed of others.

Joe- It's good they confirmed you have a heart. Good luck with tomorrow's procedure. Interesting power lash up in the first photo and PL signal in the second one.

Karl- I look forward to seeing your recreation.

Chad- We had a similar experience but for not that much. I thought it was a scam check until MOH checked it out.

Christian- Friends are good.

Tom- Back when I was working it only seemed to rain on weekends that I was off. Now I don't care. When you're retired you get no time off!:)

TomO- Congratulations to your grandson.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Thanks Curt. When Texas goes left just measure the time from 2016 till then and that’s the time frame for the rest of the country starting from 2020.

The grandson had a very good hockey weekend. In the game this morning his team won, 4-1, he had a goal and 3 assists. My Badger ladies disappointed at home again losing 1-0. 1st time since 2010 they lost 2 home games in a row. Waiting for a call from coach to see if he still wants to do dinner tonight. If the Packers win tonight the sports weekend in Wisconsin will be ok.

still need more layers and the darker shadows, and so far I have sen pictures with blue and green eyes I think people have been messing with the picture….anyway I added the iris the pupils and the reflections. Comparing reference pictures is a pain he changes his hair his cheeks and even his weight! He is definitely podgier in some pictures, again I suspect photos have been ‘enhanced’. I will watch an excerpt from the film before finishing to double check. Still have to add his trench coat….ummm or the jacket
Decisions decisions, carry on colouring, draw the body, or move onto the next character.

Oh yeah, and the other half has said, choose a room choose a wall, we need 12 Doctors and a Dalek a Cybermen….geez I may have to go join a different forum…..although I wonder if I could make 00 Guardians of the Galaxy :) rocket would be fun! Hell they did Thunderbirds on locos, maybe someone out there with the influence is a Guardians fan :D
I wonder how much a 3D printer would cost me………disappears……..

PRR, get better and enjoy the layout!
Promised an update yesterday but a club member was a no show, took my 2-10-2 apart this aft and started the decoder install and we got i5 mostly complete. Problem is that we put new LED lights in and they are not working. Ran out of time for today. Engine was running and sound was very good in my opinion. I am not fussy and not a rivet counter by any means so it’s a big upgrade for me. Hopefully we will get the lights working at our club meeting….lack of colour coding standards is always a frustration for me.
It was a great afternoon though with a great soldering refresher and plumbing solder does not work as well as electronic solder.

The decoder should be NMRA standard, which decoder are you using, and how did you wire the LED's?

Evening All.

Didn't get anything done that I wanted to, got a call this morning asking if I could pop down the care home and help sort out a problem or two, which turned into nearly all day job.

Couple of shorts which was relatively easy, but climbing under the layout was no fun.

Then asked to help sort out some rolling stock that kept derailing and a loco that had mysteriously stopped working, (somehow the owner had not only blown the decoder, but the motor as well). I'm no electric whiz kid, so that alone took me a couple of hours to sort out, and get it running again, luckily I have plenty of OO scale spares.

I'm done for the night, and I'm up at 04.30 tomorrow for another exciting day, so I will wish you all a very goodnight.

'nite folks.

Grrrrrrr!

3D Printer woes...

Nothing terrible, but I got a bottle of the smelly resin in. I loved the results, but hated the smell. Supposedly the odor is better. So I ordered a bottle.

I already had this resin dialed in, so I loaded up the build plate virtually and hit print.

Four hours later, only 1/4 of the dwarves had printed. The others were a gooey mess in the bottom of the resin tank. They didn't stick to the build plate, fell off, and got baked onto the plastic bottom of the vat. Like a chicken leg at KFC that falls out of the basket and gets welded to the heater at the bottom of the fryer.

OK, an hour later, I've got that all straightened, look at the profile and find out there was a retraction setting way off. The plate was pulling up from the bottom of the vat in between layers at Mach 5. (For the nerds, I run .6 mm/sec... this was at 70mm/sec WOW! Oops.

changed that, and ran a small test print...

and it too is stuck to the bottom of the vat? WTH?

Temp in the room is good. The resin is printing... I know, because it's sticking to the bottom of the vat. Everything is working. Check the spec sheet. I'm in the good window for exposure times....

I just re-leveled the build plate ... just in case. running another ... Hope this works... I'm running out of options

Here's the update:

Matrix has printed well. That's a step in the correct direction.

Running a second print at slightly different exposure times. (a 3D resin printer is a lot like making a print in the B&W darkroom).

I'll work on it more tomorrow, once I get the exposure dialed in.
