Because I've always run on a Highway to Hell !😈

Good Morning All. Clear and 29°in this part of the world. The second of three rapid cold fronts is beginning to pass, the third one is this afternoon before warming up to the mid-50's Saturday. However the NWS has now added light rain to Saturday's forecast.
I'll be out the door shortly for the weekly grocery trek to see how much more the prices have gone up!

A pair of breakfast burritos this morning Flo. Leave out the hash-browns.

Thanks for the comments and likes regarding the layout Christmas gifts; Christian, Guy, Chad, Patrick, James, Louis, Hughie, Moermusic, Gary, Tom O, Mikey, Karl, Sherrel, Joe, Curt, Tom, IB Ken, Jaz.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did a little more detailing and scenery work on the new DPM warehouse and the neighboring electronics manufacturer. On the warehouse I added downspouts and I added ground cover all around.

Over on the workbench, I did a bit of surgery on a female figure to remove a molding fault.
IMG_0132.JPG

Then I did some touchup painting on her and several other figures from the package of 100 that I received. All of these figures are copies of Preiser figures, although not as well molded. I started with these as they needed very little work.

Interesting combination of colors that I chose to leave. Mainly I did hair and shoes and touched up the purple paint. I also changed the flesh tone of the young lady in the blue outfit.

I need to go back and fix the shoe on the young lady in the short red dress.

Tom O - That scene of the flat car over the culvert is really great. The subtle weathering and the trees really stand out.
Guy - Have fun with the grandkids. Maybe you can teach them to shovel snow.
George - Good plan for retiring. I kinda did the same thing except I started at 30. Paid off the mortgage at 43 and then put three kids through private colleges, a couple of years all at once, then paid off credit cards which I only used because of the college expenses. My goal was 60, but the recession of 2009 set the retirement account back and I had to wait until 63 1/2. While I still use the AMEX card for convenience, I always pay it off every month.
Curt - The lights (and figures as well) came from a Chinese vendor on Amazon called Evermodels.
Tom -
As I've said before it's not a matter of if you'll get it it's when.
Very true. That's my belief, and when enough people, vaccinated or not get it, we will build up that elusive herd immunity.
IB Ken - In reality, I have plenty of space for more structures. There's fully 25% of the layout right now with only track running through it. After switching, structure building is my favorite aspect of this hobby. Continued prayers for your daughter.
Jaz - One problem I have with many figures is the hats! Another is the heavy coats and scarves. Neither are very popular in my modeling locale or era.

Everybody have a great day. Stay safe.

Morning all,

A bit late this morning as I had to run the wife to work and then get myself in. She wants me to go with her to a cardiologist appointment this afternoon, so I have to leave early to get her and take her into Wichita. It is more of a checkup than anything we're concerned about.

10° degrees with the wind chill of -8°. Supposed to get to 16° later with the wind chill to -2°. We are getting some snow showers.

Let's see, I didn't win Powerball last night and I had top bid on an auction item when I went to bed, I probably didn't get that either, but in these auctions, I do have to consider shipping into my cost. In some cases some fantastic items I'd really like to have I lose due to adding the cost of shipping to the item. There is a train show coming up in a month....

Louis: Thanks for the compliment. I try to keep an even keel.

Now I finish a half hour after I started....

As long as people are not personally rude I think a robust argument standing up for what you like is okay, I use peco 70 and have run foul of the modellers who use more expensive ‘more accurate’ track, but if you do the math and my other half did they also have flaws sone flaws the peco 7o does not have, building you own is an option….if you have a machine shop,an immense amount of time, and a team or a not too large layout but we have almost 44 foot twice and 4 feet deep plus track in a second loft,Peco 70 is easy to shape fits well and does me nicely for old and new stock bogies, so if I post on forums that strive for “excellence” then when they ask about my track then bemoan it, I smile nicely let them have their say and say I do not have the time to do it on my layout, end of, polite but firm, not apologising, and 9/10 times I look at the work of these excellent modellers they either have a super tiny layout to exacting standards but basically nothing to play with,or my work is still better than theirs overall. if people are so small they have to knock others it says more about them than it says about the person being knocked.
We all make personal choices, why we do something,or don’t do something, and that is what they are, now if a person asks for advice on improving something and they say a specific area or a general go for it,we’ll then if people wade in they get the good and the bad,but they still get to choose what THEY~ wish to uptake, and not be bullied by others.
I look at the likes of santafewillies layout and am gobsmacked, how he gets so much in,and done, and time to share, and like any large modellers some areas are more advanced than others, one person is likely to struggle to get everything up to top notch, I have tonnes of areas that are half done, part started, not yet fit for photographing, awaiting me to get off my butt and sort them….examples of part started then basically abandoned work as I do something else, and the last two years I have basically done very very little most of what you see is old work,as my working day is about animals, garden, and other hobbies, plus general cooking cleaning washing.

This is St Margarets named after my mil.
Who loved to shop. I can can squeeze so close up, a small station is at the rear near the car park, with 2 tracks leaving this loft to go to the other, and it sits over the top of 9 tracks that act as storage for non running rolling stock,I have carved the road to the pavements and coloured, but no lamps no road markings it is pretty much abandoned as it is not able to reference real life photographs which I concentrate on more, but I will get to it….eventually.

My personal opinion is do not be the first person to throw stones, chances are you do live in a glass house and deserves to get them lobbed back, pith helmet essential!

And do not forget except for the odd structure being weathered, these are bought in a box as you see no construction required,so not time input.just cash investment. And yet people will rave over them, for me personally I like them, BUT if I had the time I prefer a kit bashed or scratch build every time.

edited…oh and it is going to be a typical market town on market day the car park will double with the stalls. The stalls will have to be kit or homemade,I know what I plan and can make them fairly easily have bought a couple of stalls to evaluate, but time is the kicker.
Jaz- the only thing I see wrong is the cars driving on the wrong side of the road.
OPPS! Now I realize that your layout is set in England. :-)

Good Morning!
Only -27F this fine morning, so the guessers were off a-bit in their predictions. Still cold enough where ice-fishing or sledding with 4 little kids is out of the question. I'll bet the wind blowing across the lake is a killer. -- Now I've got 4 kids and a big dog that I don't know how to release pent up energy with. This is going to be a nightmare. I can just see me playing 'house' and sipping imaginary tea for a couple of days.
I'm wishing I'd kept some big boxes in the basement, that they could build a fort with.

No photos for awhile; no hobby work for awhile. I only have time to be 'papa' for a month and 1/2.

Have a good one!

And sorry more ideas, I have cut legs off to make Davao’s leader of the Dalek, made a Batman,I have school kids by adding tissue scarfs,I have added modelling items to hats and beards and larger hair,I don’t bother much with the faces I just set them at a distance where the faces are not the
JAZ-although we model different time periods and cultures, I have come to the conclusion that I don't have your imagination or skills. I certainly appreciate the pictures you post, because it allows me to change my thought processes about some of my own projects.
As you mentioned before, there are many times that "good enough" modeling is all that we do. Perfection or contest quality is not worth the extra time, effort or expense to make all background or secondary items the same detail as foreground items.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and imagination.

Well, it was going to happen sooner or later. As I am heading out for the grocery trek, I got a phone call from sister #1, that my brother #3 passed away last night. As you might remember, he had inoperable stage four throat cancer and was in "in home hospice care" for the last four months. Thankfully I got to visit with him just ten days ago.

Hello from the frozen tundra (literally) of So. Central Wisconsin. 7f degrees feels like -7f degrees and only heading up to a high of 12f degrees but the winds are also picking up. Watched over night as the walkway from the lower level of the house to the driveway filled with snow. Maybe 1” fell butat 2am the walkway was clear. At 4 it had maybe 2’ high drifting and a few feet away totally clear. Now at 9am CST the drifting is gone and the walk has a thin coating of the white stuff. Time to turn on the radiant heaters. Usually a leaf blower would clear this off but I am not going out there this morning.

I am culling the herd again. Any duplicate numbered pieces of rolling stock is getting moved out hopefully.

I am gathering my Merchant Row kits but seem to have misplaced one. #2 is missing, I have 2 of #3 and 1, 4 and 5 are on the bench. 1st thing up when I find #2 is to paint the inside of all the walls black. Yep, I am going to light up these suckers. My expansion project is 16”x 10’ long and it will be a different elevation area and I also will put in my small service area for the locos. At least in my head. I don’t like to cram things in and I have pictures of a Milwaukee, Wi. neighborhood that I will use as a guide. Instead of the giant silos backing the real neighborhood I will use a diesel shop. If it doesn’t work, well I’ll start over. Since we are here in Wisconsin for the next few months due to Covid related surgery cancellations this project might get further along then I thought.

The brother called last night and is forwarding us an offer for the Maui property and buildings as is. I asked what he wants to do and his 1st comment is Jeff Bezo is destroying an already crazy real estate market. He never gave a direct answer. His thinking is Bezo maybe trying to buy an island like the Facebook guy Zuckerburg is doing and Ellison of Oracle I think has already done on other Hawaiian Islands. Maui is too big but he can buy up the southwestern portion which he has made some inroads on.

Enjoy your day
