Good Morning All. Brrrh! Mostly cloudy and 16°, wind chill of 3° F. Guy sent his weather our way last night. The radar loop shows that it snowed here around 0130, but I didn't see anything during bathroom break #1 and there is none on the ground. Today won't get much warmer than 40°. The 20 mph wind is supposed to die down around noon, at least it's not near 30 mph like yesterday when the norther first blew in. I am already tired of this weather! Looks like blue jeans again today.

Looks like my main chore today is to bring in firewood.

Wife tells me that yes there were fireworks next door on Friday night, I just slept through them. Blissful ignorance when I take out the hearing aids.

Someone here posted that they were binge-watching Yellowstone. My wife is also doing that. The few times that I passed through the living room when it was on, I saw nothing except violence and tension. I have no clue as to what the plot is, but no one in the show seemed happy! Ever! I must be missing something. Doesn't seem entertaining to me. She has football today, so I'll hear either cheering or expletives instead. My guess is that she'll be watching the Rams/Ravens early, followed by the Cardinals/Cowboys, and finally the Vikings/Packers. Those will be her prime choices, she'll skip around the league every time there is a timeout.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments yesterday regarding the update pictures, and my other posts as well. Far too many to list today

Bacon and lots of it, along with a steaming bowl of oatmeal today Flo.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I plodded along with the DPM structure. I added a black construction paper view block, did some black weathering on the trackside loading dock and started on the ground cover between it and the brewery. I took some pictures but left the camera outside and I am not going out in this cold to get it.
Since Hughie is building Wicked Wanda's, I'll just post a couple from my layout.

Wow! Really busy here in the Coffee Shop yesterday, 79 posts before midnight. We're off to a roaring start for 2022.
Jaz - I just don't know what to think about the "Morris Dancing"!!! It looks like one needs to have a few pints first.
Sherrel - Regarding the IRS audit, that was confirmed by my wife as well. Of course she cannot recommend that to her clients directly, just in off-handed remarks.
Alan - I just wish that the NAPM video didn't scroll by so fast. I had to slow it down to properly view it.
OB Ken - Regarding getting up early, I got up at 0415 every morning, usually without the alarm clock, for 43 years. Unfortunately now 6.5 years after retirement, I still do.
Troy - Too bad about postponing the trip; although it may be a wise choice due to MIL's situation.
Dave - Our weather yesterday wasn't as severe as the "norther of 11" was. Our temperature only dropped 51° in 18 hours. Firewood? Yes! I am currently good through spring of '23.
Smudge - If you don't already have one, you need a Kadee coupler height gauge. It will take the guesswork out of coupler heights. There's an insulated one available as well, and they're available from many different suppliers. Not sure about availability in the UK though.
Hughie - Berms are not usually modeled on layouts that I have seen. I have a few, and will be adding more when I finally build the Ethanol Refinery. Very interesting fact regarding the mules and the reel mowers.
Lee - At least the first two times that Christian re-joined the forum, it was because he forgot his password. Like others, I am unsure what happened this time, I never read any negative comments unless they were deleted rapidly by a moderator.
Ken - Changes in weather are a fact of life here. Lightning is usually the culprit with our power outages, although there was one last week for an unknown reason during nice calm weather. The power company has a contractor who comes out every few years and trims all trees that could potentially impact their lines. I keep an eye open for them as I do gather up some firewood from the roadside and I have them dump several truckloads of wood chips that I use as mulch and soil conditioner in the garden. They won't bring the firewood to me though.
Best wishes on the health issues.
Tom O - I definitely agree that the photos of the French countryside were excellent. Just not enough of them.

Everybody have a great Sunday. Stay safe and warm.
Yep, got one of those, bought the height gauge when I decided to fit KD's a while back, it seems most of the loco's are out of whack. I've ordered some more Kadee offset couplings, hopefully they will sort the problem out, I'll have to look at the track as well, seems HO is a little more "sensitive" to any blemishes in my track laying skills

Guy, the dog’s issue is called separation anxiety. My sister-in-law’s peekapoo suffered from that. With a lot of effort, we were able to minimize the problem, though he did still stress when “Mommy” wasn’t around.
That and terrible two's. All have that AND you can insert your favorite species. Even animals you have from birth do this. If you can get something from the breeder or person you got it from - rag, sock, toy ... something that has the scent of them that may help. Make sure there is food and water down all of the time. Give the dog it's personal spot and do not bother it there. Remember to pet, pet, pet until you smell like that dog. Don't worry, it will wash off in time.

Good, ok nice, morning from sleepless in Wisconsin. 3 hours last night but much better then most of December. Not taking any OTC sleep aides and stopped the stupid medicine the Doctor gave me that caused more issues then no sleep.

Anyway, decided after blowing out the driveway of the white stuff I decided to take a drive. Flat rear tire. Pump it up. Hissing sound and air bubbles in the wetness around the tire. Called assistance as I can’t handle changing a tire right now and it’s free. They will come out but had to check the car to make sure you has a spare or donut, donut. What a way to start January.

plan today in this beautiful sun shine of 7F degrees/-13.8C high for the day with a wind chill feel of 0f/-17.7c is to hit the modeling bench to do nothing but clean it up. Some NFL football hoping to sleep during the early games. No walking in the woods today.

Feeling a bit better. The doctor did call this morning as she is a neighbor sort of and thought she would stop in for coffee. She should be here at 11am CST. She actually is a mile or so away but 4 houses down from our old property management offices.

TomO

Lots of power poles Sherrel!!!
and mangled 3-year old Sports Illustrated he gets from his doctor's office
p.s. Gotta feelin Christian will be back.
Yeah, Willie - damn poles swamping the yard there! LOL

TROY, I stole the Swimsuit issue three years ago, but now the pages are all stuck together!

KARL, I sure hope so- I found him amusing!

ALAN - Monster video's -- some of the best, most realistic modeling, trains were beautiful with the older freight cars too!

It was a coolish 33F this morning - we are looking for a 61F high. You guys are making me want to turn up the thermostat.

The Spousal Unit enjoyed an entire bottle of Champagne while we were watching 'Joe Pickett' on Spectrum TV while I was enjoying Wild Turkey and Ginger Ale. Then she tried to rape me and I couldn't offer any resistance and let her!! ----
Have to buy more Champagne today!!!!

FRANCINE, good morning to you in this New Year! Tell MEL that I would like a BLT with lots of extra bacon and a coke this morning, please. Oh yeah, some fries on the side would be nice too!

In other news, I learned of a statue to a leg in Saratoga National Historical park

Supposed the leg fought valiantly and was attached to the "ungrateful colonials" most brilliant general in the American War for Independence.

Supposedly, the general asked a captured American officer, whom he had taken prisoner – following the Generals defection to the British side – what the colonial officer would do if their positions were reversed.

The office responded that they'd cut off the injured leg and give it burial with full military honors, since it had been wounded twice in service to his country. The rest of him would hang.

The general was Benedict Arnold

Despite being English I like his style.

@CHRISTIAΝ Best I can tell, your layout is "period correct" ;)

Willie I think he took Troys comments wrong about for the New Year we could see some green on that brown board he had Troy wasn’t a bit out of line but some people have transparent skin. Your pics look very good BTW.
Or, maybe it was my insensitive remark.....................

The writing desk is assembled.

The printer stand is the drawer pedestal from the old bathroom repainted with a new plywood topper. The green chair is where the cat sits. I need to do some rearranging to put that somewhere else. It makes the aisle on the right too narrow.

And, I sense a trip to the hardware soo to get some cable routing supplies.

Behind all of that is the old writing desk converted into a hobby desk. Need to get another cut-n-heal mat so I can have one for cutting as well as painting. The green one in front of the paints is already spotted with paint.

Now I need to assemble all of the drawers for the new desk. took just over an hour for the main desk. I figure the drawer assembly will take at least that long.

This is a known phenomenon with trainers, when you get a puppy it relies on you and pays more attention, best training time is prior to one year (6 months) and continue to finish with no break, BUT as the animal matures from puppy to adult it wants a better position in the pack and can act up,this needs to be quelled firmly but not cruelty so dog knows it’s place but you retain A higher position and the dogs nature is not crushed, A loyal dog often knows your top dog and it is number two, this is often achieved by not allowing kids to tease dog.

Well, a little. The saddle tank shop switcher #217 belongs to me, and that's it for that particular video. SP modelers are actually pretty well represented in our group. Most of what SP you saw belongs to a young fellow named Doug Clements, who does these videos for us. I've taken him under my wing so to speak, since he has such great taste in railroads. ;) There are several other guys wo do SP as well. I've gone and gotten him bitten by the brass bug too (another life ruined! 😂). I have two trains in the below video, our 45th anniversary run night/party. The ten wheeler with the Harriman coaches, and the M-10000. I like the "Cities" trains since the SP was part owner in that fleet. I brought small trains that night since they are under-represented as a rule. There's also my Lark here at a previous open house in the pre-Covid days.

Lark Video here:

Alan- Both videos are great. And the best thing is that I can watch them both again!
You have been an expensive influence on a lot of people and that is a good thing.
Care to guess what brand airbrush I got for Christmas? Yes, your brand.

Thanks for posting the videos. I know I am not the only one to enjoy them.

So what name did Christian use first, and was he here in the coffee shop. I like him had no issue with his post, but joining as two different people ….perhaps he had a run in on the first character, and tried to remove himself from the playing field……or similar….otherwise that is a little weird….

so if you know he was 2 ….are you watching out for a third…..although unless he is schezoid I think his posts would out him.

Good Morning everyone.....over cast and cold...about four inches of light snow from yesterday. Guaranteed to be cold tonight after the snow with the temperature below zero. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Football Sunday....going to be cold at Lambeau Filed for the Packers evening game against the rival Vikings. Real football weather. Been to a NFC Championship game at Lambeau and the temperature was a -8 below zero when we arrived at the field. Sat in the sun and I was very comfortable in my snow mobile suit. I like night games at Lambeau. Now that I'm past 70, the chair in my comfortable den is my "go to" spot to watch Packer games.

No trains today with the football games, but Willie tomorrow for sure, I promise. Willie I like Wicked Wanda's on your layout.

Nicely weathered PRR freight car in Gallery from Sir Robbins. Not over done, but very effective and professional.

Guy: Our Riley has separation anxiety, even when Cathy just goes outside Riley will bark and cry for 15 minutes, even if I'm in the house. She's will get over it in time when she knows that Cathy will come back to her. Our Katie had the problem as well and at the cabin she tried crewing through a bathroom door when she walked into the bathroom and pushed the door shut and felt trapped.

Listening to an Oldies station on the PC and they are playing "Brandy" an old drinking song of mine from my youth. I spent many hours spending many nights in a tavern and playing "Brandy" on the jute box. The rest of the patrons really got sick of the song after hearing it played so many times every night I was there drinking. The bar building was over 100 years old back then and was on a route from Milwaukee to Fond du lac, Wisconsin and the building back then had rooms for rent on the second floor and a large ballroom on the the first floor. One of these winter's days I'll take a car trip and visit all my old watering holes and see how they changed over the years.

The first project for my static grass applicator is to add some grass to a siding that has a bit of a grade and hopefully the grass will hold the cars spotted there in place. When I built my bench work I didn't use a long level on this area and the bench-work is off just a slight 1/8 of an inch or so. This is the only area that I have that problem and slimming the track would not be easy because of the scenery and turnouts in the area. If the grass doesn't work, then I may try how Gerry Leone on Model Railroader's Video Plus showed how to make a "break" out of wire to keep cars from rolling on his layout.

Cathy is going to call a old friend of mine from high school. He's calls us every New Year's and we haven't heard from him. His wife is ill and refuses to get the virus vaccine. Bob spent time in Vietnam and was wounded twice while on his tour of duty. He has a man cave in his garage with his motorcycles enjoying his beers.

I found some more older layout photos that I have to post one of these days. Here's one of them....

A weathered Minnesota, Northfield and Southern locomotive on my CM&N. The MN&S was a short line owned by the SOO Line. I like the simple blue and white color scheme.

Time to depart.....football time.

Greg
