What a difference an hour makes. Went from down about $21 to down $330 and from about 1/2 the positions being positive to about 10 or 11 out of 45 being positive. Oh well, another day in the market. Single days don't move me much unless they are involved with my options spreads and I need to roll...

On the covid front: Our family came down with covid after the new year. My daughter (13) picked it up and was sick a day with a fever the Monday afternoon and part of Tuesday after the new year weekend. She was feeling normal by the end of that Tuesday and went back to school. She was not tested and only felt bad a day. My son that Wednesday had a fever and he ended up staying home 3 days from his job and getting rest. No bad symptoms, just tiredness and on and off again low grade fever, and small amounts of coughing, and he was feeling fine that weekend and returned to work Monday. That Thursday (day after my son) I came down with a low grade fever which I had on and off for the next 10 days. Some days none, some days it would be around for part of the day and then go away again. Only twice did it get over 100.5 (Twice measured for a short time 101.x). I had a drier cough, not terribly bad, and felt a growing heaviness in my lungs. That next week that feeling got worse and I had a shortness of breath (walking up stairs, etc I would have to then pause at the top to breathe steadily to avoid a coughing fit). Normal sitting there I did not have shortness of breath. Just any exertion caused it and deep breathing felt heavy and burning (well not burning but I can't describe it better) in the lungs. Wife made me use her Apple watch to measure my O2 levels a few times, and they were normal. That next weekend (about 10 days later) I started feeling better and all last week I was feeling better daily. I still cough a little here and there but have had no fever and no shortness of breath in 9 days. My son and I did not get tested either. However, about the same time I started to feel it, my wife also developed a mild fever that went in and out, had a similar cough to me, etc. She was only feeling it about 4-5 days and between a normal day off and a weekend only missed 2 or 3 days work. SHE was tested that Monday after the first weekend, due to a work requirement, and was positive. Of course they don't know through a PCR test what variant but based on symptoms, etc. we assume it was Omicron. Since we all had similar symptoms we assume we all had it even though only the wife was tested. Yesterday I did have more coughing and a heavier feel in the chest (feel better today). I had a bad night of sleep and was very tired yesterday, which didn't help on my recovery.

High prices low turn over,so not always the freshest either,
My wife and I shop at Whole foods, they have a big turnover therefore fresh food. We don't get everything there, the produce is the best. Got tired of getting lettuce at the supermarket and it going bad in a couple of days, lettuce there last a week. The meats are good too, a lot of homemade sausage and other meats that don't bother us.

Gambling on football, if you are not spending hours studying film, you are rolling the dice.
The way this season has shaped up I doubt anything will help beat the spread. I can't remember a more unpredictable NFL season.
I think the last bet I made was $50 in the spring of 1989. I bet the Orioles would not finish in last place.

Betting, well one thing is for sure those places are in business to make money not give it away. So I spend my money on trains, a worthwhile investment. Worse case I can sell them and get something back, and if you look on ebay some stuff is going double or better than what I paid.

Greetings all and a very Happy Robert Burns Day to you!

And may your haggis, tatties, and neeps all meet your highest of expectations!

PRR Modeler George- It looks great. What did you use?
I thought of how they constructed Statue of Liberty putting a thin copper skin over a steel frame. I had plenty of paint stirring sticks to make the frame, so then I glued them between to the 2 templates I made. I had plenty of card stock that I use to paint the backdrop scenery. I took some of that and glued it to the paint stick frame. I'm working on the caboose wheels right at the moment but when that's done, I'll install the coupler.

Good Wednesday morning at 13 minutes after midnight. Just got off a phone call with the son, almost 2 hours. He wants to buy out a partner in one of his businesses or sell it to the guy. He called me instead of his uncle or mom who are the financial whizzes and business folks in the family. I am the listener and normally the cheer leader. Not tonight, if he is wishy washy about buying out the partner sell to him was my advice. It’s a decent money maker, won’t make you rich but reasonably comfortable. He needed a sounding board and I was fairly blunt tonight.

Waiting for a bulk pack of Kadee #148’s to show up along with Walthers Proto steel wheels. Paid for 2 day delivery last Tuesday but they didn’t ship until Saturday. Worked a bit on the engine service area, basically cut out for the service inspection pit. The Smooth It the LHS I ordered from Saturday says now it will be here Friday. Hurry up and wait.

Waiting now for sleep to hit

I always wince when someone wins on a fruit machine then continues to try and win more, read the paperwork on the side only pays out max 70 percent, you cannot beat it,people who believe they have a system to win, only have a system to lose at least 30 percent and usually one hundred, doh.

Thanks all for the advice. I tend toward acrylics anyway, and sounds like I have a couple of brands to look for.
I would use Vallejo acrylics they have an excellent reputation especially in air brushes, but none local sells them, and nowadays the enamels are hard to get through the post anyway.
My favourite are citadel from warhammer because of their technical paints but those are for weathering and skin colours, for rolling stock Vallejo would be a good choice

Sounds like he just wants to lose the business partner, sometimes people make it so you just need to walk away,if 50 50 then think of a price he is willing to pay or accept, but sounds like you understand the business side, which I don’t, so a comment not advice.

jazz, I have the same problem, nothing local, so I usually just order online. Costs the same as buying from a model shop, quite often it's cheaper.

Hi modelers it is Tom of I can’t sleep again fame. About 2 hours of good sleep and with no idea why I am awake. Wisconsin is cold but at least it’s not windy:

Sorry about the ads. This is the WeatherChannels app, the free one. I am comparing it to the AccuWeather app. The AccuWeather one has not been close on temperatures to my 3 weather reporting stations around the property, so I dropped it yesterday after 5 days using it.

Well, howdy there frozen internet people, and those trying to remember whether to drive or walk on the pavement in the UK. ;)

It's Troy again.

Please allow me to jump on the IT'S COLDER than a .... bandwagon.

I preset a faucet dripping on the main floor before bed, but forgot to get the one on top floor's outside wall. Woke up about 4 and remembered. No burst pipes yet.

Been doing a bunch of 3D printing with filament (making movement trays and scenery for gaming) and had two prints that didn't print. Just little splotches of filament. I've been waiting on the extruder (the geared wheel under tension that feeds the filament into the hot end) to break. This model is notorious for that. Thought that was the problem, so I swapped it out.

Nope... It's a clogged nozzle. Need to fix that today.

Wife called to say that MIL is doing well enough that wife will be coming home TODAY post attorney meeting. They're going to conference in the sis in Texas (who is a paralegal for a bankruptcy firm in San Antonio). Mom and the girls will (hopefully) all be on the same page about getting Mom into a senior apt here in The Fort. Which daughter goes on the bank accounts, which gets medical power of attorney, etc.

This spring is going to be interesting if they do actually get mom to follow through on selling her home and downsizing. That's a tough decision when you've been in the same place for 50+ years.

As for me and the cat... I got the audio files for one of my books back. Today and tomorrow will consist of me wearing the big Can-type headphones, and listening while reading along. Sometimes the narrator misses a line, and I have to flag it. Sometimes they change a word because their brain gets ahead of the text. When that happens I have to decide if the change is worth keeping, and adjust my text. Or, do they need to re-record that line?

The cat is in charge of catching the red dot. Fortunately, I have one of these.

His fuzziness stares at the wall, and chirps... then meows... then bites my arm until I turn on the red dot for him.

Sometimes I wonder who trained who?

Morning all,

Turned off the lights at 8:30p and woke 3:25a this morning. Didn't hear the wife up through the night as normal. It was unusual the I didn't need to get up around 2 to go to the bathroom. Like that's becoming a thing the older I get.

Daughter2 called last night and said she's still blistered, but pain and swelling are reduced in her hand. Burn cream is helping. Sent pictures and the back of her hand and fingers got the worst. Frontside of her hand is ok. She can move each finger, so she may be ok.

My oldest sister is now officially on the down side of the hill. I welcomed her accordingly this morning...🤣 I can get away with that as I am 11 months older than she is...crap that means on on the downside as well...But since I'm gonna live forever ;).

Not much going on around here yet this morning. Blueberry pancakes with bacon sound good this morning. Thanks Flo!
