I lived in Miami for a couple of years around 1980. I went to the "old" FIU. I remember the Black Flag heat warnings, but never a Red
Flag. We've had Red Flag warnings annually here in OR and they were expected on a regular basis when we lived in the Sierras.

Good morning Folks,26F here and sunny, praying for some family heading back to DC from here. All you in the blizzard area, be sate and praying for you too. Celebrating the US Hockey Gold Medals, wow. Got a N scale locomotive arriving today, hope it runs as well as the last MicroAce one I got.
And.....coffee.

Good Morning All. Clear and 28°, my prediction is that this is our last freeze of the season. Maybe reach 60° today and then a return to 70's and 80's tomorrow.

Well, while I didn't watch much, the Olympics are over; our TV will return to the usual Hallmark channel and college basketball. Looks like the small country of Norway kicked a$$ with the medal count.
Crazy stuff going on down in Mexico right now. That guy must have really been important to the cartel.

Today has me driving my wife to and from the eye doctor where she will get her eyes dilated. Not sure what procedure if any, she's actually having done. As usual, she scheduled it for midday at 11:15; I tend for much earlier times when I can get them.

Typically for a Sunday, my time out in the train shed yesterday was limited. Chores and Church take priority. I did manage about 45 minutes so I just ran trains instead of diving into any projects. I only ran from staging yard to staging at the other end; which takes about 9-10 minutes at normal train speed. It's a scale 2 miles or so, even though I pass through 5 towns! Selective compression! Probably won't get much time out there again until later this week.

Troy - Looks like the taggers really took off on your boat!;)
Alan - The Payment Choice Act of 2025 hasn't yet been passed by Congress, so we're still stuck with the "card-only" places. While I mostly use the card anyway, for the cash-back points, I think that it does take more time than just handing someone a $10 bill.
David - I could go for anything on that menu. All of the choices looked good. Were you allowed to pick "all of the above"?
Mike - Congratulations to your daughter's team. They recently opened a Portillo's about 25 miles away from me. Based on Kevin's recommendation, I have stopped by twice. I need a few more trips to explore the menu more.

Everyone have a marvelous Monday.

Good morning gentlemen, fine Pennsylvania weather today:

Willie, if they are dilating her eyes the doctor wants to have a look around inside. Could be for anything, but typically glaucoma, because shows itself way in the back of the eye. Might take pictures inside too. I hope her eyes check out OK.

Good morning gang!

31° under cloudy skies, wind gust to 35 miles an hour making the feels like temperature of 9°. Supposed to get up to 36° today. Got a little bit of snow last night about 3 inches or so. Driveway is already plowed out waiting for the plumber.
Yes, you heard that right the plumber. It seems as if late Saturday my well pump took a poop. I also found out this weekend that 24 hour service doesn’t necessarily mean they’re gonna fix you right away. All this guarantees that I will answer the phone. They did send somewhat out Saturday evening to look at the problem and to condemn the well pump. Of course, Sunday all the parts warehouses are closed so that brings us to today. Of course this would happen about a week after I paid off my truck just when I start to see a little daylight. Here comes Mr. Murphy and the clouds.
But the snow is pretty the coffee is warm and I just have a heartfelt middle finger for Mr. Murphy.

Karl,
How deep is the well? We were on a well at our previous home and it was 135' down. Thankfully the original, old, pump motor never went out. I did have to reprime a couple of times per year when irrigation, laundry, & the shower were running and then someone flushed a toilet.

Good morning it is 82f absolutely gorgeous degrees. We are in Christiansted, Virgin Islands and the weather is a delight but everything else here seems outdated or actually worn out. Not quite the resort feel we were expecting.

Seems my brother had other motives to get this group here than to play golf. The resort is available to be purchased! Enough said on that. The wife and a few others are out riding horses and overall the area is typical of the Caribbean Sea islands. Warm, beautiful and further onto the island, dirt poor. Terry is enjoying the warmth of the sun and of course the horses! I am not real familiar with the islands in the Caribbean and did not realize how close to Puerto Rico we are. I have enjoyed San Juan a few times

The golf yesterday was ok. I have not played in one of these get together events since July, 2024 right before my stroke. So I’m thrilled to be here playing and knew my pocketbook might suffer being on the golf course. 24 golfers this time around and so far no winner on the skin game which is carrying over yesterday’s money to today. Only my 4th time playing outside and 2nd time playing 18 holes in 19 months if I counted right!

I purposely left my IPadPro in Wisconsin and using the iPhone typing this is hard. Home tomorrow night, be well

In Mass growing up (age 10+) we were on well water. I think the original well was around 200 ft. Eventually, due to diminishing flow, as the neighborhood expanded, they had to redrill it much deeper. I don’t remember the details.

Folks eventually moved after around 18 years there.

I liked the water but it was very hard.

Portillo’s! Wow, glad you like it BUT if you ever come to Wisconsin we will not take you to the ones in this state. Absolutely some of the worst prepared food except for the chocolate cake that Terry says is still to die for. Cold hot dogs and fat grizzled Italian beef are not what I remember from going to the original in Villa Park, Il in the 70’s or near my sisters in Orland Park, Il. In 2000’s before they took it public. Salads are still good according to the wife and daughter.

We went to the Rockford restaurant yesterday and it was excellent. The one in DeKalb by NIU we have had mixed experiences at that one.

Good morning folks, 30F here today and sunny, supposed to hit 50. I am so glad I am now where we only have to be inconvenienced a couple times a year. Actually I am going to buy a snow blower just for those times, I'm too old and grumpy to get out and shovel that stuff anymore. Fifty years ago I actually thrived on shoveling snow for us and our neighbors in Chicago. Just goes to show how mentally unstable teenagers are.

Anyway, last night I slept well, just one potty break, and thankful the back is on the mend. Still going for a CT scan tomorrow to see if they can figure out what caused the last three weeks' pain.

Anyway, lifting my coffee cup to you all this morning.

It's 85' deep. Not terribly deep. The last house was 135' but we never have had any flow issues here. My neighbor the plumber said we could tackle it, to which I asked him when was the last time he did a well pump. He's my age and neither one of us is in good enough shape to tackle the job without help, and the two of us together working on it in the cold and the snow would look like two monkeys gangbanging a football, so no, let the the checkbook handle this job.

"A man has to know his limitations"

You may be able to do it, but that's why you pay a plumber. He does it right the first time, in half the time.
