I appreciated that Catholic schooling for a lot of different reasons. Self-discipline, analytical thinking and comradeship were just a few
I went to public schools. I had great standardized test scores.

I chose to send my daughter to Catholic schools so she could better understand her Catholic heritage and be taught strong moral values. As a bonus her standardized test scores ended up being even higher than mine!

Good morning Coffee Shop, it's Thursday! It's 25°F and partly cloudy here.

Have a great day! ;)

Good day everyone.
An interesting fact (imo) is that although not fully laden with containers we had our quota and departed Rotterdam early.
(This has allowed another ship to take our berth.)
Leaving Rotterdam early has not meant we can arrive at our next port (Antwerp) ahead of time. No. Our berth there is at present occupied by another ship.
Travelling in the English Channel at a speed of two? knots is a new experience to me. LOL.

We have to have space for more containers for when we arrive in Antwerp and then Le Havre. Leaving Le Havre we can then cross the Atlantic with a full load.

Good morning gang!

25° under the cloudy skies with a pretty stiff breeze out of the north. Makes that 25° feel like 14 but the good news is it will get up to just a tick of freezing today.

Doctor put me on a muscle relaxer and a steroid to deal with the hip and butt pain. Pick the script up yesterday afternoon and took the pills right before bed last night . I did sleep all night until just before the alarm went off when I sat up in bed swearing I was oversleeping. Oh the mind play tricks!

BBL

Terry, good luck with your early morning meeting.

Good morning all!

Currently 28F with an expected high of 45. Could get used to this for the rest of February, but I know there is still some winter
left in the tank.

Not sure what today has in store. Usual household stuff this morning and we will see from there.

Have a safe day everyone!

29°F this morning at 0600. Back to the optometrist today for an eye check. Next week I get fitted for new glasses.

Supposed to be 53°F today. We'll see. Nothing going on here today except trying to get re-acquainted with my Nikon Zfc camera. My cell phone has me so spoiled I have neglected using my Nikon camera and have forgotten some settings. The photos I took at my last session the other day all turned out like crap. I don't know if part of that is my glaucoma, or me not knowing the camera any more. I'm working on it.

Have a great day folks. Servus!

I have a Canon EOS camera that I bought in '89. I have 3 lenses for it and would like to use them again. Have been researching the new stuff and know that there is an adapter that will allow me to use these lenses. I still have the tripod from back then, so I think all I need is a new camera body. There used to be a replacement door for my old camera to make it digital, but I dont think they still sell it.

Morning all,

32° and 65° for the high later.

I do know that I was far enough ahead of the class at the public schools, I bounced between both classrooms for science and math. Public school is where I learned the fine art of under achieving. Why bust my butt for an "A" when I can get a "B" without trying. 8 years later I started college in earnest and was handed my head!

I have an adapter for the Nikon so I can use my old Canon FD lenses. I have to use them manually, but it's better than not being able to use them at all.

Those are about the only 2 I'm on anymore too.

I dont post much at all on MRH but do go there a few times a day. There is some very good info there but never felt
really comfortable posting much there.

This one has always felt like home!

Pretty much the same for me. Though I just look in the morning and then evening. I did post 2 times last month there. Something changed, at least in my mind after JoeF started the paid magazine thing Running Extra. I was a regular there for years before that.

The other thing you can do is daily intermittent. 16 hours from dinner to breakfast the next day. That allows you to burn fat and your body to fully process everything. I’ve been doing it pretty faithfully for years. I used to do 13-14 hours over night era but moved it back to mostly 16 hours.

I started before it was fashionable when I read a study they did with mice. 3 groups of mice. One allowed to eat anything it wanted whenever it wanted. One group on Purina Mouse Chow as a control group. And one group that could eat whatever they wanted for 8 hours but then no food for 16 hours.

Group 1 that was eating whatever they wanted whenever they wanted had terrible blood work.

Group 2, the control group, that could eat whenever and however much Mouse Chow, and only Mouse Chow, they wanted had good blood work.

Group 3, despite eating mouse versions of burger and fries, pizza, cakes and cookies, etc but only for 8 hours and had to fast for 16 hours had blood work similar to the Mouse. chow control group.

The conjecture was that humans might see similar benefit and that the fast allowed the body to fully process everything and clean up. But more study and testing was needed. Since then this style of intermittent fasting has become popular.
chadbag I'm continuing on with my fast. going into my 6 day now. They tell me having a small glass mixture of water, extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice every morning and night helps clear out any fat around your organs. This fat has to go. Swal

Good morning to the Crew. We will cross over 40f degrees again this afternoon.

Catholic school. 1st 8 grades were in 2 different ones and taught by different orders of nuns. I did spend 1/2 year in 5th grade in a public school as we moved from the Southside of Chicago to the boonies, I mean suburbs. The Catholic School there was being built. While at public school found out I was so far ahead of the 5th grade class I was assigned they wanted to bump me up a grade, mom and dad said no! Catholic schools instilled a work ethic as to how to study and I am forever grateful for that. High School was a public school but College was at Marquette a Jesuit School. Graduate degrees are from Northwestern a private university. Terry did Catholic Schools all the way until graduate schools.

I decided not to complete the bid proposal for another modern paper mill for a past client. I can’t meet his time expectations. I texted him yesterday morning. I don’t feel bad as he made many changes to the plan after accepting the initial proposal. I was paid for my design time and the original plan. It’s his plan now and can do what he wants. His reply said he understood.

I was at the car dealership as a part for my glasses compartment that the locking mechanism was broken came in. The GM thought I was there to sell the car to them and she’s was disappointed. When she realized I didn’t want a new car she said I was right in holding on for more money. My VW Jetta R series with 38,000+ miles on a 2021 is extreme low miles and a wanted car. Sell it online and get $2 to 3000 more than they were offering. Car buying and selling is a game and I hate playing it. I’m not selling especially online

Lots to do today but I have no plan for it. The current household chores are done and the honey do list is growing but most of it concerns outdoor things, mainly the landscape and now a couple garden things! Still doing a search for a floor lamp for MY cave that I didn’t realize until told I needed one. We definitely do not agree on lamps!

Be well

Well that was a quick trip at the optometrist's office. I was in and out in 15 minutes and now back home already.

She just wanted to take pictures of my optic nerve in both eyes. She loaded them up to a computer (if it didn't so it automatically like my camera does) and we both looked them. Both eyes looked the same, but she was only the photographer and not the doctor. I guess she'll review them whenever she gets around to it and let me know if there is anything I need to know.

Glasses on the 19th. Sure glad they are only five blocks up the street.

Good Morning All!
24F @ 75% light fog. Upwards of 48F later.

School: Public ones for me. Never had any homework up to Jr High. Just did it in class. Teach and Mom worried about that, but decided it was a non-issue. Jr High they started ( tried ) to teach stuff I had already done in the previous years, but wanted it done again and again, ad nauseam. Got out of that barely making C's. HS was a total flop. Senior year I had 3 gym class, 2 study halls and biology. Liked biology .. no, not frogs and snakes, but girly thing I sat next to. Finally dropped out and went to the University @ MCRD San Diego. Did get my HS ..um.. diploma in Hawaii. Also went back to College about '87 and have degree.

Forums: Like some of you, I have cut my time down quite a bit. This one is still the best, MRH and TB I get to every once in a while. Although TB is nothing but crap dealing with CloudFlare. I have watched the authenticated user count go lower and lower. Heck, some days you can't even get to the login page. Bet advertisers are watching too... Ya, know they are working on it. Best way to fix is to loose CF.

Fasting: No way I could go 6 days, probably would not make it a whole day. I would be laid out on the floor passed out from lack of nourishment. I have lost a ton of body mass and now I am stick people. Still have a little of that belly fat left, so more activity spring/summer should get that down or gone. On top of that, started a high protein diet to see if I can build that body mass back up. Sure would like to get back to 220/230 with no fat. Now, where did that weight bench go?

Good Morning All. Foggy and 35°, colder than the forecast of 42°. Still expecting mid-70's today and tomorrow with thunderstorms still in Saturday's forecast. Low-80's next week...it's still February!

Yesterday's doctor visit was uneventful, wasn't expecting any further changes. He is the electrocardiologist who did my heart ablation in December. Lot's of good information from him though. I'll wear a heart monitor for a week as a follow-up to the original ablation.
Today is the weekly grocery trek. Pharmacy is also on the list.

I'm currently down to just one forum, this one. MRH just kinda got away from me. I didn't have time to sort through all of the BS going on in some threads.

OK, I finally picked up a small project out in the train shed yesterday. I decided to upgrade an old train set Bachmann gondola that has been occupying space on a shelf for at least 15 years. It came from a train set that I had bought for my son in the 80's, so it was sentimental value more than need for the layout. Of course it had the old truck mounted horn-hook couplers and I had discarded the plastic wheels years ago.

Off came the coupler mountings, one flew off into the Twilight Zone and I haven't located it yet!
1770908321359.jpeg

Had some Kadee boxes to use instead.

Trucks had that hideous center post, but since this will be a background car or just a moving object, I left them alone rather than spending the time filling the hole and tapping it out for something else. I used Intermountain metal wheelsets because they fit better than the shorter axle Kadee ones that I also have on hand.

I guess that I forgot to take a finished picture. Need to clean everything up today and test-run it. Just a quick project to get the juices flowing again.

Steve - I'll be looking forward to the responses that you get regarding the Caboose Industries SPDT ground throws. I think that I would have some use for them, but I never think to pick any up at the LHS.
Mike - Nuns/priests didn't start leaving my schools until after I graduated high school in '69. I saw many a wooden yardstick get broken during grade school, although I don't remember one breaking against my butt.
Michael - While we had Catechism classes every day, we did not have homework in that subject. However, we went to 8:00 Mass every day of school in grade school.

Abe Lincoln's birthday today. It's also my wife's #76, more important than Honest Abe.
Everybody have a great Thursday.

When I was working, my weight ran around 155 to 158. Now sitting on my arse all day in winter has bumped that up by about eight pounds. I suspect five of it will go away starting in Spring and will be back to my regular weight by end of summer before the cycle starts again.

I'm just glad it doesn't show and my pants still fit.
