Good morning everyone!!!
Flo, can I please get the #4 special with rye toast?
Have to stop by the Broake & Howe shops sometime this morning.
They're sending a wooden flatcar to the WN&K.
I was asked for thoughts about the deal.
WN&K wants to sink it on their team track as a loading platform.
Naturally, it'll be another moonlight delivery with trackage drop instructions.
I'll be advising on other items of value, or so perceived.

Its hard to tell from the photos, but I see a lot of 45's. How many 40' are in the bunch?
In this group there are now 22 containers that are 40’ remaining. Sold 8 this morning, unweathered. There are 17 chassis 40’ remaining.
To my eye they look brand new! No scratches, nothing broken or missing. These all will be sold. Prices are in the Continuous Weathering thread
the Haag-Lloyd and the blue Hajin behind it were not part of this lot. But are available. I am keeping 10 containers 40’ not in any picture
Good Morning All!
34F @ 83% and overcast. Guessers changed the temps ... upwards. To be 49F today going up to 53F on Friday.
Trip to Spo yesterday was not bad, not much traffic; even going through CDA. Did not see a BNSF until Sandpoint, and I did not really see that as it was headed for the MRL weaving around dead trains. Did not see anything else moving either - must have been 15 dead trains between Sandpoint and Spo. Heck there even was a North bound UP blocking the diamond at Boyer. Did see some hi-railers on the road heading East from Bonners Ferry but have no clue if something happened or if it was just a work window. The Spo river bridge just East of Pines Road is indeed being played with. They have footings on both sides of the river North of the current main with steel in for embankments. That should get going faster given the current weather conditions.
Went to meat market first: Liver, Breakfast sausage, Pork Italian sausage, more KC style bacon. Then Chef Store - Pork ribs for $1.89Lb, a Pepperoni chub and 2 Mozzarella chubs - want to make pizza. CostCo and Wal*Mart were zoo's. Pretty much replenish the normal stuff at CostCo; eggs were $7.30 for 2doz, 4% milk $6.29 for 2gal, then bread and fruit/veggies from Wal*Mart. Bread was $1 a loaf so bough 4 for freezer food.
The restaurant in Athol: we did not go as it is a Sweet Lou's of which there is one in Ponderay - high priced, but good food.
NSLLHS ( Valley Trains ) provided a couple items that jumped into my hands. Posted pix in 'Showing Off' of which probably was the wrong thread; should have been in RPO. Admin's: feel free to move if you wish. Lack of sufficient coffee is my excuse.

Wow! Do you have your own port?
No, but on the larger layout I had a good sized Intermodal facility. I am downsizing the Intermodal fleet but these 2 deals came up suddenly and after I lightly weather them they will easily sell. I prefer to sell a container with a matching chassis but that won’t happen with this lot

Good afternoon. It's mostly cloudy and 65.
The trip for car service went okay, though I questioned the recommendation for a new set of wipers on a car that I've owned 4 months. The advisor backed down when I mentioned that.

On a new car, that's about all they can try to gig you on!
I took my wife's car to the dealer for an oil change on Thursday. It has less than 12K miles on it, and that's what they tried to get me on as well.

Mike - Terry. I change wipers twice a year abet NOT at the dealer. Shucks around here has the 'free install' of wipers for those whom are not mechanically inclined. The ones we have now are a couple minutes each as they are so simple. Had ones a couple years back of which I had to take the dang arm off the post to figure out how to get the blades off. Geesh.

I dislike companies who do that. Next time I will go elsewhere.

From place like that I just expect it! Plus in our small town, there is not a lot of options.
Its like my dentist. Every time I go there for the 6 month cleaning that is fully covered by insurance. He always wants to do something extra.
paid off every month with no interest.
That’s the way to do it.
When ya have a dealer service warranty on your vehicle, they won't recommend new wipers every six months. Heck, they'll extend the oil change out a few extra thousand miles and oil filter every other oil change as well.

Since my son works there, I didn't make a large issue, I just declined the service. I did check I had clean oil and a new filter.
WInter is winding down; many cars need new wiper blades. One time trying to clear ice can ruin a new wiper blade. How many people let the defroster do its thing before turning on the wipers? Many don't even warm up the car before hitting the road.
Most shops use the least experienced people to do oil changes. How many of them know how to inspect wiper blades?
I don't know of any warranty that covers wiper blades.
I have the Orioles on the Radio and hockey on the TV with the sound muted, life is good!
Close to it. We have three desktops in the family room. One desktop in each bedroom and another in the living room. I have a desktop and two laptops in my playpen/attic. And we have two more laptops. That makes eleven.
Not counting the ones, I have yet to take to the recycle center. After windows 10 becomes obsolete I'll need a truck to take all this stuff to the recycle center.
My son builds three new systems every two years. One to use for working at home, one he plays games on and another for his wife. My grandson gets his gaming computer, and I get the other two. They add up quickly. I have only bought one desktop in the last seven years and my daughter gave me a laptop.

The adviser at the dealer suggests every six months change the wipers. I asked how much and it was just under $100 installed. Said I will change them tomorrow at the Auto Zone. Then he offered free install and total $50. I went to AZ anyway and the same wiper brand was a pair for $30!! I changed them in the parking lot and the counter guy came out and said I would have done those but I thought you were going home!

Here in central Florida, we don't have much ice on our windshields to contend with. From now until June 1, it is our dry season, and the only use wipers will get is wiping off the morning dew. So, even if it did need wipers, which it doesn't, waiting until rainy season starts would be the smart choice.
I did own a couple of cars in the late 1990s that covered everything but tires in their bumper-to-bumper warranty. Unfortunately, that company no longer exists, and strangely enough, it had nothing to do with their warranty. The owner of the company moved assets around internally to fund some projects, and the way he did it was illegal. The result was pretty much instantly going out of business.

The wipers for my car are $14 for the pair, which is employee pricing, and free installation. Again, when I go at the beginning of June for the next oil change, I'll let them do it.
Of course, I only needed an oil change now because of all the driving I did after Milton, with 100 mile one-way commuting, and a 1700 mile round trip to North Carolina in December. And I was still 600 miles shy of my self-imposed oil change interval. They can recommend 10k oil changes all they want, I think 5k is pushing the envelope.
I buy Rain-X premium wiper blades. I keep a gallon of washer fluid handy to clean my windshield if needed as the car warms up. Wiper blades can last for years with proper care. My OE wiper blades lasted for three years on my 2020 Equinox.

I'm not familiar with Florida's winters. Although I did see that the panhandle had 8+ inches of snow recently and Jacksonville had sleet and freezing rain.

I'm with you. I change my oil every 5K. I only go that far because I use pure synthetic extended life (20K) oil and Fram's premium filters. Overkill on oil changes is much cheaper and easier than repairing or replacing an engine.
I have 172K on my Equinox and it doesn't use a drop of oil between oil changes.
I want nothing to do with my dealer's bulk synthetic blend. I don't want an inexperienced mechanic to change my oil. I may be a broken-down old f#$% but I can still change my oil in ten minutes if necessary. I like looking under my car from time to time and that is my excuse as to why I take twenty minutes to change my oil.

We hit 40° and with the sun, no clouds and little wind, the crap is really melting.
I replace the wiper bladed every 6 months, but I also don't buy the most expensive ones I can get either. With the summer hear burning the bugs onto the glass and the road grit in the winter, I get a new pair every spring and summer. I do wipe them down when I wash the windshield while getting gas. Seems to make the last better.
I don't use the Fram filters myself as I had an engine oil starve due to their cheap construction. Fortunately I was able to catch it before the engine ate itself. Only use WIX and have the oil change get them when I go to get it changed. I can't crawl under a car to do it myself any more.
