Good morning all!

Currently its 25F.With the wind it feels like -4. Unfortunately, that is our high for the day. Temps will fall throughout the day.
Looks like a very cold week on the horizon.

Survived the B0day shopping blitz yesterday. Actually the damage wasn't as bad as I originally anticipated. we ended up
checking all thie things to do on her list and were still home by 4:30.

Other than some light domestic duties today not much else on the agenda for today.

Stay safe and war, everyone!

Good Morning All. Clear and 28°, headed up to 45° later. Mid-50's tomorrow and mid-40's Tuesday; and then the bottom drops. Ice storm Tuesday night with a low of 11° and it isn't expected to get above the freezing point until Friday. Bitter wind from the north along with the possible ice. We average 6 days a season where the temperature doesn't get above freezing, Wednesday will be our first one if I recall correctly. If there really is an ice storm Tuesday night, we ain't going anywhere for a few days. While the highway department puts that ice prevention stuff on the Interstate, they don't have enough equipment to stray too far away. Certainly not on the rural roads in our neighborhood. Yesterday and last night's wind has moderated a little this morning.

Busy day for today, starting with church this morning, bedroom linen laundry after a nap, and tonight we're going to a fancy restaurant in a North Dallas suburb for the Birthday/Valentine's dinner. We've been there a couple of times before. Sadly, it's less than 2 miles from Discount Model Trains, but they're not open on Sunday. Otherwise, I will continue to bring dry firewood to the covered porch and maybe stash some in the house in a non-designated spot.

I didn't get to spend a lot of time out in the train shed yesterday, so I mainly cleaned up some under-layout shelves. I am also pondering a car that has been on the RIP track, what to do. This freight car was purchased off the consignment table at my LHS about 25 years ago. The original owner repainted and re-lettered it. It hasn't aged well on one side.
The good side, but missing the stirup steps that I cannot locate on the layout anywhere.

The bad side showing where I have already replaced one stirup step and fixed the car number.

The question is whether I should bother with additional rehab, or weather it more and assign it to be a storage shed somewhere. It runs just fine.

Ken - Sorry to read about the heat pump problem. Try to stay warm.
Tom O - I may have posted before, but all of the local train shows have moved out of Ft Worth since they started charging for parking at the exhibition hall.
Patrick - No thanks for letting the cold front get past the Kansas/Oklahoma border. Try to restrain the one next week.
Mike -
It seems the older they get, the more it costs
Just wait for college if that's in the plan.
John - I experience the same problem when I have to work under the layout. Thankfully I did all of that years ago, so it's just minor tweaking now.
Hughie - Yep! It seems like the cold weather is on your way.
Joe - I'm not too sure who Tony and Paulie are, since I never watched the show, except the opening credits after I found out where the design of the kit came from. My wife binge-watches it sometimes.

Speaking of college, My grandson, the National Merit finalist, received a partial scholarship offer from University of Texas. He now has offers from there, Purdue, Wichita State, University of Georgia and Texas A&M. Not all are full scholarships until the National Merit winners are announced sometime in May. While that scholarship is only valued at $2500, it leads to more lucrative offers from interested schools. He intends to be an aeronautical engineering major

Everyone have a great Sunday.

hello everyone

ist allready sunday, that means i have to go back to work tomorrow :( thats really sad. but ey i need the money for my hobby.
i just wana leave this unboxing video here. Why? its from otter valley railroad and i have to say hands down the best mystery box i ever got. they did such a great job with everything. but you have to check it out :)

in other news.
yesterday i was at a workshop. the workshop was hosted by Marcel Ackle. Hes one of the greatest Diorama Builders. hes known all over the world. he showed how hes working with static gras, creating bushes out of stuff you would not belive and more. it was so helpfull and inspiring. and he told me i can share hes technics how he build bushes and everything.

By far the best mystery box you have received (IMO). Like thats it not a hodge podge of eras and is close in its time period. Your facial expression on seeing the Tangent 86' boxcar is gold! That thing is a beast!

They did a very nice presentation as well.

Think if I was into the mystery box, this is the one I would take a chance on!

Mystery Boxes. There should be decent clues as to what is in them. Timeframe is a big one for me. A wrong area (being modelled) train could be a welcome visitor etc..
Modelling the 1930s say, receiving a diesel seen around 2010s, no thanks.
You saying the Leeds Railway cant use some modern 6 axle road power? :D

I get it though, a mystery box would be a total gamble! I'm one of the most unlucky when it comes to that so it would end up totally useless stuff for me.

Since it runs fine, performance is not an issue. Does it fit in your to your operating scheme? The finish looks naturally weathered, and the excess decal film looks like shadow lettering A wash of white or light grey, a shot of dullcote, and maybe some rust powder, and consign it to a inactive siding, where it is used for storage....like a old PRR Shadow Keystone x31 on the former Ipana toothpaste siding in Rahway. Been there for years. Really too decrepit for your engine consists.

Just an idea................
How about a small maintenance scene showing this car being repainted. A couple of dudes on a platform spraying on fresh paint etc.
May be more work, effort and space allocation than you want to spend time on.
A-Line has stirrup step replacements. Looks like one has already been done.
Again, just some thoughts to save the car.
John

I've been carrying a 365XL since it came out.
We got a Ruger Max 9 with red dot optics. It fits her hand better than the Glock 17, which I prefer.

Of course I have to wait til next Saturday due to Maryland's 7 day waiting list. The young lady at the store tells me I should get and email from the MD State Police early on Saturday morning. I have to print it out then take it to her and she will hand me the gun. Soon we will be at the range with both the new guns breaking them in!

Interesting.

When I was building what my female secret agent would carry in the way of firearms, I asked the AI (ChatGPT, IIRC).

My AI buddy suggested the Ruger Max 9.

AI also suggested a Galco Miami shoulder holster for it.

Good evening from the windy Jersey Shore. Right now, 38°, coming off of a daytime high of 61°. Not for nothing, it was a cold 61.
Winds from the WSW @ 8mph, with Gusts of 26mph from the NW. According to forecasters, it wont go out of the 30s through Saturday, at least.
Got to start the snow thrower tomorrow, and get some fresh gas, as there is a distinct possibility we may get some real snowfall on Thursday.
Spent a good part of the afternoon and evening in the train room, continuing to inventory stuff, some actual modeling, and running trains on the Reading with the South Chester crew. 6 customers, 7 sidings, then drilled the yard and made up two outbound trains. A pleasant day, with time out for a nap, and dinner.
Allied Chemical 02_16_2025.jpg

Note the derail and blue signal. Allied Chemical is still a work in progress.

thats why i did like the one from otter valley, you can tell them what era your looking for, even if you have preference in rollingstock or so.
but overall i get what you mean, normally mystery boxes are you get what you get :)
