Good Morning All. Cloudy and 45°. The NWS got it right and the cold front hit exactly as predicted at noon yesterday. Highs in the 40's for the next 5 days with rain Monday through Wednesday. Temperatures are supposed to remain above freezing until after the rain stops Wednesday night, when the forecast is 21°.
Busy morning yesterday, as I did the final tilling of the early spring section of the garden. I'm good for now, need the area for frost-sensitive stuff done by March 15. My plan is to rake it smooth today and plant some lettuce, spinach and other greens before the predicted rain tomorrow.
Wife is going to another granddaughter dance recital in Dallas this morning and then headed over to our other daughter's for a football watching party where she'll spend the night. I no longer care about professional football and I didn't watch the Super Bowl even when I did, unless my team was in it. I'm totally ambivalent about who wins, as a life-long Cowboy fan, I totally dislike Philly. And the Chiefs of course, are coached by one of the most hated Philly coaches. I still remember the game in the 60's when Philly fans made snowballs with 9v batteries inside and pelted Tom Landry on the sideline. BTW, my SIL who's hosting, grew up a few miles from Philadelphia and is a life-long fan.
My plan for today is to try to do some more organization of my RR photos in the computer and save the new folders to the backup drive. Later it's the train shed.
Speaking of out in the train shed, yesterday I finished up the re-worked roof's on the Farmer's Ag & Grain Supply structure. For the roof over the warehouse area, I shaved off the strip wood that warped, and replaced 2 pieces. Against my usual procedure, I glued this roof down and weighted it overnight.
The part over the offices and display floor, I remade with a piece of .030 styrene. This I covered with spray-on Elmers Glue and then covered it with sifted beach sand.
That got painted black.
I may have to hit it with another layer of Dull Coat. I'm leaving it on the workbench for now, since I will add some figures and maybe some more details to the loading dock area.
The present detailing came from my box of stuff, none was included with this kit.
Swal - Besides the benefit of growing organic food, I also enjoy being in the outdoors and getting some exercise.
Tom O - I am quite surprised that the ceiling in your friend's train room isn't already finished!
Marlin - My gardening season is early due to the heat in July and August. I'm about 2 weeks later than normal this year. Peas, greens, onions and other root crops are generally planted here in early-February. Tomatoes, beans and squash in late-March. The only things that grow through the summer are Okra, Sweet Potatoes and peanuts. I can plant a fall garden in early-September. I have heavy black clay soil, so it needs lots of organic materials worked in as deep as my tiller can go. I have a Troy-Bilt rear-tine tiller and can actually go the 8" deep on the first go-around, but I prefer to do 2 passes as that makes everything easier. Doesn't jump around as much.
Everyone have a Super Sunday. Hope that your team (if you have one) wins.
